- Today we talk about the new album from the Avant-Garde Metal group, Ad Nauseum, which will be out on February 12th!
This is a mindbending but innovative album which will appeal to fans of bands like Gorguts, Imperial Triumphant, and Blood Incantation.

Album of the year 2021, I love this band i listen again and again and find new interesting things. one of my most anticipating album of this year.
Definitely one of the most impactful avant-garde metal albums in recent years. I'm sure it'll be making a lot of appearances on year end lists.
You know something dude, I think you are speaking my language to another area in music. The amount of variables that are there to differentiate in a rhythm, i had to zone out ever sounds, and focus on my four sticking point. I study for years to own my craft. Trust me, "it's not easy mastering one's craft" i have discovered, and taught myself how to apply my vocal to a new delivery code out of being persistent, and determination.
Loved this album. A great example of being informed by your influences while still crafting a distinct sound of your own.
I wholly agree. This is one of those rare albums that moves a genre distinctly forward. It's remarkable how it feels like so many other great albums in this category without sounding like them.
this is the best review of this album i've seen...great analysis. i think of this album as what gorguts would sound like if they integrated their classical influence into the metal compositions, instead of keeping them separate. it's like if penderecki or ligeti made gorguts atonal style dm. very cool album.
Thanks for the kind words!
Subscribed, really good summary of the album, love it
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
I think free jazz fans would like this album. I'm not typically into death metal but I loved this album. What an artistic masterpiece. Nothing else sounds exactly like this. Truly ambitious, heavy as hell and played by musicians how are virtuosos at what they do. My favorite rock album last year. By far....
Great video man, love to see people talk about crazy music like this. Keep it up!
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I certainly do listen to a lot of crazy stuff. One of my goals with this channel is to help people wade into music that is often seen as unapproachable.
Great review! Very detailed yet clear and concise. The rhythmic interplay on this album is mind blowing. I think the classical music influences are playing a part in the uniqueness of this album too.
Thanks man, I tried my best to do it justice by explaining the experience rather than just listing off facts about the album and the band. I feel explaining what I get out of it both helps and excites viewers more than doing something like a track-by-track analysis.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
great review dude, really enjoyed this record and your take on it
Thanks, Orlando! I'm glad you enjoyed the review
For me getting into metal was easy. Even though i was raised by my grandmother i visited my mother a lot as a kid and she listened to Black Sabbath, White Zombie, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and the list goes on.
Glad to hear it! It's definitely a different experience to be somewhat 'raised' on metal than to get into it later. However, there also aren't many little kids listening to Imperial Triumphant or Ad Nauseum, lol, so it takes a bit of training to appreciate this kind of album.
I've recently found your channel, excellent work, keep it up!
Hey, thanks Josh! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos.
Great review, you set up the context for the album really well. Interested to check this out, always like boundary pushing music
It's definitely in the deep end as far as Metal & Extreme music goes! I don't know what your background is, but if you're struggling to get into Metal, I have a 'Top Metal Of The Month' series where I give out a really diverse list of metal releases each month. Perhaps even if Ad Nauseum isn't your thing you might find something else you enjoy which pushes your boundaries there. The newest one for March should be coming out in a day or two!
@@feigner374 haha nah dude it’s cool, metal is my favorite genre and I play metal drums as well. I like Imperial Triumphant (Alphaville seriously grew on me) and liked the opening track to this, so I’m excited to hear the rest! Will def look out for your other videos tho. Excited to be challenged and have to really dig into an album.
I'll also add, I love how this album challenged my brain, especially since I bought the full dynamic range DR:11 version. If you would like to try another album, I would recommend this one. Hope you enjoy!

I also bought the digital album off bandcamp. I wanted to pull out all the little nuances from the recording with a super-intense studio headphone listen. They did some really bizarre stuff in the recordings that I've just never heard before.
The album you recommended is on my radar. I haven't decided if it will make it into my February Metal video yet. It's good but there's been a whole lot of good experimental and avant garde stuff this month, honestly.
It sure doesnt bother me! My album of the year and unless there is a super surprise I dont see anything beating it. We have had very good albums by Carcass Iron Maiden and Between The Buried and Me with their Colors 2. But none of those could touch this with a ten foot pole. Good review.
my most anticipating album of the year !!....you forgot ulcerate and portal as their main influences and 20th avant garde composition
Very true, I did neglect to mention those. It can be hard to decide what to talk about when the goal is to keep the video short and concise.
Thanks for pointing those out though! Especially since both of those band's fanbases have grown quite considerably in the last couple years after their amazing recent albums. There's certainly been a bit of a boom for avant garde metal recently.
If you like this album check out..

Did you find this album scary the first time you listened to it?
