Plus, he was well-known in his playing days for turning down an offer from an Ivy League school to play for the Cats!

Curry comes across very astute and articulate. Leads the interview conversation extremely well.
Avery presents himself well and demonstrates why he has become the face of the football program. Constantly lifting up his teammates with a very positive outlook.

Love this! Think of AJ to Curry & Tyler Lockett (played together). Hopeful that Spivey and Andre Davis can take the next step up. Give us a lot of height and speed. Our TE group is loaded with talent with hopefully two more KS high school kids to add.

Wow. This is not at all what I expected from Avery Johnson, as he truly does appear to be somewhat of a football prodigy, with great gifts of natural talent. That can be a disaster for success for young athletes. At the college level, there are so many examples of squandered opportunity for such gifted athletes. Avery Johnson appears to be quite mature, very intelligent, calmly poised and not at all so deeply into himself that he will be missing the vast opportunities that potentially are ahead for him. He may fully understand that whatever those opportunities might be, he will achieve them only by being dedicated to earning them through hard work, concentration and focus. He appears to understand and appreciate that there has been and continues to be a lot of good parenting involved in his young life. Avery Johnson could very well become one of the most impressive quarterbacks in college football during his years at Kansas State. If he maintains his focus as he expressed it in this interview, he can look forward to a solid and important career in the NFL as well. This interview by Curry Sexton is most definitely very well done and impressive. When there is a leader as capable as Coach Klieman is at the head of a college program, good people follow. Obviously. Hopefully, Avery Johnson will be mature and prescient enough to realize that his best opportunity for exceptional success will occur by staying at Kansas State. It is such a good fit for him.

Love it - but please get rid of that helmet. We’re not doing that! Powercat always and forever.

I don't necessarily agree. Powercat only came into existence with the introduction of Bill Snyder because he wanted to change the logo we had and break associations with the losing history. I see no reason alternates cannot be used. It's not like it's a school logo with a 100 year history. I understand it is deeply ingrained in K-State's identity now, but if there is an alternate the team likes, go for it. Let the kids have fun with it once in a while.

@@243bmk let them have the fun that comes from a 100% focus on winning. And let the donor dollars and ticket sales flow from an alumni base that senses the institution acknowledges and honors their fond memories by connecting the decades with a consistent and loved brand.

Donors donate to winning programs and administrations that can sell a future vision of program and facility improvements. Money is not donated or withheld because a team plays 1 or 2 games a year out of the uniform that was copied from the Dallas Cowboys 40 years ago.
Plenty of programs across the county with more money, more donors, and more respect than we get play games in alternates. They have not been abandoned by the money people or general fan base.
Every NFL team wears alternates on Thursday night games. I don't recall any stories about only having 25,000 at the Chiefs game because they wore an alternate and the fans were mad. Sometimes you have to embrace changes to move forward, just like KSU did in when they adopted the powercat.
In today's college transfer world, kids can come and go whenever they want, for whatever reason they want. They are the lifeblood of a successful team. Don't get me wrong, I think the powercat helmet and current uni is a great look. I also think if it makes the team happy and excited to get to play in a different look once in a while, that is a team decision to make. Whether I donate $10 or $10 million, my position as a donor is to make sure they have the resources they need to be competitive and offer a great fan and family experience, not dictate uniform.

You're gonna have to let that go. Haha. Marketing is important and alternates are great marketing. As Fitz has said, our mistake with alternates is possibly that we don't enough of them to bring the hype level down.
