That was a great year, I remember it very well, I was 11 years old and that team meant a lot to me I live in woodside queens then I went to about 6 games that year, I am 46 now and I still remember that great year what a team that was, one of the best ever! Let’s Go Mets Forever!!!

I was at the game the night before on fireworks night 7/3/86. Houston scored 2 in the top of the 10th and then Strawberry hit a 2-run shot to tie it followed by Knight hitting a solo shot to win the game. Great times!!!

If my memory serves me correctly, Houston relief pitcher and John Candy lookalike Charlie Kerfeld was caught on camera walking from the Shea picnic area back to the Astros bullpen with two heaping plates of BBQ ribs where he proceeded to dig in. This was at the start of the game. Tim McCarver was laughing hysterically as the camera showed Charlie and his ribs. Kerfeld was always a funny character (and friendly tormentor of Gary Carter!).

Love how Shea's old dugout resembled an 80s suburban basement

Love these games. If I could request you posting more games from 1984. That is where it all started for the 1986 New York Mets! Thank you for posting these games.

This was aired on the same day ABC aired “Liberty Weekend”, the second of three-day 4th of July specials including live performances like Whitney Houston, John Denver, Barry Manilow, and others at the Statue Of Liberty, and a massive fireworks show from the East River and the Hudson River, and it was an amazing night. Peter Jennings hosted the event along with Barbara Walters.

Fran Healy evidently saw the future at 1:33, Nolan Ryan did pitch for like 6-8 years more despite being 36 at the time

Do you have any more Yankees games from 1985 or 1986?
And Gooden Vs. Ryan doesn’t get much better than that!!

2 reasons NOT to sit behind the dugouts at Shea, especially on sunny days in July/August - goofballs waving at TV cameras and fat guys
    with their shirts off.

2:21:53 is a brief report from WOR-TV and it was right after the second day of “Liberty Weekend” wrapped up. Plus a short little clip of a fireworks show at 2:23:48, but he mentioned that it will do it in October in the Subway Series, but it ain’t happening. The Yankees were out for the 1986 season, and the Mets stayed alive until it goes to the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.

My only beef with old school broadcasters is starting an interesting thought and then getting distracted and never finishing what they started talking about.

everyone was. I couldn't stand him and he got worse as time went on. He became so cliche and generic (caaaan of corn. His voice was annoying in general) and seemed to get a bit too giddy when the opposition did something good. talked too much in general

Wait there were like only like 8 k’s and 1 HR and the runners did this thing where they ran when the pitcher pitched the ball! And why would anyone bunt when they can hit an HR? Both starters pitched past the 5th and one even pitched the whole game! What is this sport called?
