If he is, he is just following the likes of Ibn Taymiyyah رحمة الله and Imam Ghazali رحمة الله who were also Sufi’s.
In fact, the majority of the greatest scholars from Ahlus Sunnah for the last 1400 years were Sufi’s.

@@adib831 Ibn Taymiyyah رحمة الله - The Qādirī Sūfī Shaykh
Ibn Taymiyyah رحمة الله has authored a book called Majmū` Fatāwā which is 37 volumes (not to be confused with his other work titled Majmū’ah Fatāwā which is 20 volumes) in which volume 10 is titled ‘Ilm us-Sulūk. And volume 11 is titled ‘Ilm ut-Tasawwuf, which deals with Tasawwuf and Tarīqah.
He addresses the topic of Tasawwuf (another word for “Sūfism”) & refutes some errors regarding it. He said in volume 11: "𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐮̄𝐟ī 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐝ī𝐪 (𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐨𝐧𝐞), 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐝ī𝐪 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐳𝐮𝐡𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 ‘𝐢𝐛𝐚̄𝐝𝐚𝐡.”
He also has a work called Sharḥ Futūh ul-Ghaib, which is a commentary of Sayyidunā Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رحمة الله’s work of Tasawwuf.
Ibn Taymiyyah رحمة الله loved Sayyidunā Al-Jīlānī رحمة الله ! As Imām Ibn al-Mabrid has related that he (Ibn Taymiyyah) said: "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐫ī𝐪𝐚𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫, ‘𝐀𝐛𝐝 𝐚𝐥-𝐐𝐚̄𝐝𝐢𝐫 𝐀𝐥-𝐉ī𝐥ī, 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚̄𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐦.”
The great Ḥanbalī Imām Ibn al-Mabrid has quoted 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐚̄𝐝𝐢𝐫ī 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 (𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐝) 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐫ī𝐪𝐚𝐡 of Ibn Taymiyyah in his work titled, 'Bad' ul-‘Ulā Bi Labs ul-Khirqah' as the following:
      1. Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī رحمة الله
      2. Abū ‘Umar Al-Maqdisī رحمة الله
      3. Muwaffaq ud-Dīn Ibn Qudāmah رحمة الله
      4. Ibn Abī ‘Umar ibn Qudāmah رحمة الله
      5. Ibn Taymiyyah رحمة الله
      6. Ibn Al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah رحمة الله
      7. Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali رحمة الله
Other Khulafā’ of “Ghawth al-A’dham” in the Qādirī Sūfī Silsila were great Ḥanbalī scholars like Imām ‘Abd al-Ghanī al-Maqdisī رحمة الله, Imām Ibn al-Jawzī رحمة الله, Imām as-Sarsarī رحمة الله
Besides being a Qādirī, Ibn Taymiyyah has praised great Sūfīs such as Shaykh Junayd Al-Baghdādī رحمة الله ,Shaykh Sahl At-Tustāri رحمة الله, Shaykh Bāyazīd Al-Bistāmi رحمة الله ,Shaykh Abū Tālib Al-Makki رحمة الله, Shaykh Al-Qushayrī رحمة الله & others.
