Dr. Strange remembering to save before the boss battle is one of the most awesome cinematic ideas ever.

Ong should’ve done that to Going against thanos
@@BrandonYRG. Probably wouldn't have worked for a couple reasons, the main one being that Dormammu has never experienced the concept of time before so an active understanding of being trapped by and subject to time is torture for it. Thanos of Infinity War would likely have the willpower to outlast Strange, as well as realising that would be how he would win in that situation. This is ignoring the possibility that the time loop only functions because the Dark Dimension exists outside of time.
Dormammu: *is literally a god*
Dr Strange: haha time stone goes brrrrrrr

When Dr. Strange was just a neurosurgeon he was only able to save the wounded patients, but after becoming the Sorcerer Supreme he can save million lives before them getting wounded, that's one hell of a Doctor
He isn’t sorcerer supreme yet
The Ancient One catching the shockwave and throwing it back is one of my all time favorite action sequences.
Actually , Strange died like , A LOT during loop , it's crazy how he did not went insane
Yeah, the original time was 10,000 years then they made it to 10 years. Imagine if they stick with the original one, he would instantly become his comic counterpart in mastery of spells without dark magic and other demonic stuffs and also the eye of agamotto (comic ver).
Useless Trivia: During this movie, Benedict Cumberbatch literally had to fight with himself as he also supplied the voice of Dormammu.
What?! I had no idea Smaug was also Dormamu... but that makes sense 🤣 thanks for the trivia!
Makes sense as if dormanu didn't have an actual form theoretically he would appear and sound as the person he sees to interact more easily which makes sense as benidict Cumberbatch also did the face acting for dormanu. This is why marvel makes good movies they are smart
I love his voices. He’s one of the best people out there who can voice characters.

I sweat on my life doctor strange has probably the most mature and realest themes in any marvel film that being not letting ego and perfection getting in the way of your own greatness and to sacrifice one for a greater cause or calling
Strange was trapped in that time loop for 1000 years, so now imagine all the time he spent viewing endgame and getting familiar with his powers and the time stone. His experience is actually greater than Thor
5:43 and that’s why you should never drive while using your cellphone, you are not going to become a sorcerer
well, at least don't read medical documentation while you drive. all was nice and dandy while he was talking handsfree, but when you start brushing through pages of x-rays AND talk while driving a sports car down the cliff road by the stormy ocean at night (and breaking speed limit from what it seems) you just cross out all your intellectual achievements and mark yourself forever as cripplingly stupid.
For years i had to put up with people raving over Dumbledore, hoping that someday Doc Strange would get to the big screen. Imagine my joy when this came out!
Probably my favorite solo movie in the MCU.
The warnings.... the warnings come AFTER the spells.
Fun callback in the end of the credits: the last thing you see before the Mordo/Pangborn stinger is a warning not to drive distracted. A warning after the movie. ;)
Wong laughing at the end is probably one of my favorite parts. :D
Definitely a trippy movie. Can you imagine all the planning they had to do to create all those twisty visuals? INSANE.
I love that Wong finally laughs because Strange is pretty much his boss now.
He laughed at a joke he got
Wong listening to beyonce is the best part imo
The best thing about his sequel is he's going into it at max power. No more learning, he IS Doctor Strange. So hyped to see how Wandavision leads into it.
I think she's trapped the same way Strange trapped Dormammu, but it was so she could learn *her* powers.
So in the time line would Strange 2 be set, before End Game? Cause when he went 1v1 with Thanos he was pretty much holding his own, and that's Thanos with the Gems
@@steffurness I don't think she's trapped per se. She 100% put herself in that situation willingly, but i think she accidentally pulled in normal people to fill her show. And every time she warps reality inside she's making the bubble grow more unstable, and that's why SWORD is involved.
She's (for now) only warping reality in her mind, but the more she does it the more actual reality will be warped. I think she will literally reform Vision and the Mind Stone, and doing so has these crazy consequences to the multiverse.

This is a pretty good movie. It sets up Dr Strange pretty well, it also has lots of epic trippy scenes. I think my biggest issue is the villain isn't very intresting, but that's something a lot of marvel movies suffer from. Im really excited for Dr Strange 2.
i think marvel films while tied together nicely have good reveals' and visually interesting more then half lack impact of being a fulfilling film experience...they feel like set up films at times sadly and lack the full impact...think iron man 1 compared to 2 for instance....not a fan of that...like theres maybe 11 marvel mceu of what 25 i like...dr. strange is one of them...his sequel looks promising and if not for corona we would of gotten by now and probably would of been better then it will be now..wish this film didn't focus so much on the origin stuff..they should of done more of a spiderman style quick recap of his backstory instead of focus 1/2 the film on it...its kinda boring in the middle

The director for the film considered having Strange in the time loop with Dormammu for 10,000 years, but shortened it to just 10 instead. Still, Dr Strange died maybe 1000 times a day, every day for 10 years. That man has some dedication!

Calls back to Captain America: Civil War.
It's actually a call back to Iron Man 2. They're talking about the test pilot for Justin Hammer's suit. Dr. Strange's car wreck takes place a couple of years earlier than the rest of the movie meaning that it happened before the events of Civil War.
@@mash6487
Was the third reference about Captain Marvel then, the 22 year old female with the electronic implant?
There is also a Dr Strange TV movie from 1978. Peter Hooten as Strange and Jessica Walter playing the villainess, Morgan le Fay.
The Jungle Book actually won the Academy Award for visual effects. The entire film was shot in blue screen in a studio.
When Dr. Strange was driving and he said what do you have for me?, and the guy said he has a 35 year old Air force Colonal who crushed his lower spine in some sort of experimental armor? That was referring to Captain America Civil war, when Colonel James Rhodes(Iron Patriot or War Machine) was accidently shot out of the sky during the big airport fight scene, and he hit the ground, breaking his lower spine and becoming paralyzed. From that point on, he could only walk with the help of an exo suit Tony Made for him. I like how they tied that into Dr Strange.
If you think the visuals were great on UA-cam, imagine seeing it in 3D in an 8K AMC Prime theater. This is absolutely the best movie to see in 3D that I have ever seen.
Yea totally agree! Most movies that do 3D are usually gimmicky but Doctor Strange is absolutely crazy in 3D. You can easily tell that they made the movie in 3D first and then transferred it to standardize movie format.
When he's driving and Billy says "I've got an Air Force colonel who crushed his spine in some sort of experimental armor" is that referring to that clip in Iron Man 2 (in the senate hearing) where that guys is testing the Hammertech suit and the top half turns a complete 180?
It's colonel Rhodes who Vision hit in Civil War, he crushed his spine and can only walk because of Stark technology

The craziest part about Dr. Strange bargaining with Dormamu isn’t just that he gained the selflessness to die a couple of times. For the people of the world that never happened, for us it was 2-3 minutes, but for Dr. Strange that was 1000 years+ of dying again and again and again
That film always reminds of the Futurama quote "its like that drug trip i saw in that movie when I was on that drug trip"
Mordo IS a villain in the Doctor Strange comic books, yes. He was a sorcerer, a Master of the Mystic Arts like Strange, but his view of the world was really rough and twisted and very extremist. He left the Order and became a supervillain.

After you wondered if Doctor Strange won for visual effects, I couldn't remember so I had to look it up. They were nominated but they LOST to the Jungle Book movie?!??! Seriously?? Robbed!
Yikes
This movie puts Dr Strange on Iron Man and Thor's level when it comes to being a hero. In his first movie, Thor saved a planet, but in his second, he saved the universe. The dark elves were going to snuff out all light. What happens then? Plants die, the food chain is broken, and eventually everything else dies as well. Peter Quill saved all *life* in the universe when he stopped Ego, and the Hulk brought back half the living things in the universe when he used the stones in Endgame, but Tony saved the universe from Thanos when he used the stones. That's why Tony, Strange and Thor are the three best heroes in the MCU, because they've accomplished more than anyone else.
You can find the New York sanctum, in the video game "Spider-Man". You might have seen that window.
You should split up your movie reactions playlists into franchises like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel, etc.
I was told this was trippy and a mind f?$!
Director: Son you haven’t seen anything yet
19:03 This is why you save before every boss fight.
Not sure if you were aware, but Dr. Strange was in the time loop with Dormammu for 1000 years.
From my figuring, he was there a week lol. 10 minutes to talk, die and come back multiplied by 1,000 = 10,000 minutes. 10,000 minutes divided by 60 minutes/hr = 166.67 hours. 166.67 divided by 24 = 6.95 days
I can understand why the writers (even if it comes from the comic book writers) would say 1,000 years, it makes more of an impact for the story. But logically, Doctor Strange was destined for this, he's an extremely fast learner (evidenced by his progress at Kamar-Taj), and Dormammu is a god accustomed to doing what it wants without obstacles and never dealt with time before, so I don't see how it would have any patience to speak of. But in the end, it's just fiction, so what does it matter in real life? Believe what you want to believe for entertainment. I still enjoyed the movie greatly and look forward to the sequel.
When he gave thanos the time stone u could still see the scars on his fingertips from the accident

One of the most unique movies in the MCU. I like it
I'd like to put out the theory that Strange would have otherwise died in that car crash, and only survived because he subconsciously used magic to protect himself, or to heal afterward.
A side not that has nothing to do with this movie but does with the actor is that they had him accompany Tom Holland (Spider-Man) to all his interviews and press conferences to stop him spoiling movie plots cause he kept letting things slip. Also this got so bad that when it came to Infinity War Tom Holland said he was given a script that had everything but his parts blacked out so he couldn’t spoil it.
I only just realised that when Strange is on the phone and the guy talks about a colonel who has crushed his spine, he was talking about Rhodey. Civil War took place in the same year. Man, am I dumb.
Editor: What kind of animation would you like me to add
Director: Yes
"Dude was actually a Dr?".
Yes, he did earn his title before the magic.
"dr strange was an actual doctor? " nah bro he just always wanted to be one so when he became a superhero he was like "im a doctor now"
"35 year old Air Force Colonel - crushed his lower spine in some kind of experimental armor."
That's Rhodey. 5:33
More likely one of the victims of Hammer in Iron Man 2. The recordings Stark shows to the house committee show some of Hammer’s failed attempts to create power armor including one who is literally twisted halfway around, clearly crushing the operator’s spine. Besides, they show Rhodey with what appears to be an exoskeletal brace and going through what appears to be standard physical therapy, so I don’t think his recovery is magical in nature, rather I think it’s technological.
@@calibadgerdude6082
Rhodey is the only named Air Force Colonel in the MCU, and Hammer didn't have any Gov't contracts until Rhodey took the suit. When Tony took over the screens in Iron Man 2 and showed the clips of the failed experiments, he was kind of incriminating Hammer, showing that he was also trying to duplicate the Iron Man tech (illegally, in secret - without the government's knowledge) and failing.
And Doctor Strange and Civil War were around the same time. Remember, Hulk and Thor weren't around... And Rhodey always had his mech brace after Civil War - dude dropped a hundred feet, dead stick, and landed on his back. That's the injury. Which is why Ant-Man had to pick him up out of the water in Endgame - he crawled out of his suit on his arms, dragging his feet.
Also, at the time of that call, Dr. Strange wasn't a sorcerer yet, just an exceptional surgeon. If I was rich like Stark and saw my best friend get paralyzed, I would absolutely do anything in my power to get him the best surgeon in the country.
I'm pretty sure that's definitely supposed to be Rhodey - even the time difference with the "Five Years Too Early" line from The Ancient One with Bruce Banner in Endgame takes place in 2012 - so she is referring to before the blip - at the Battle of New York from Avengers 1. Iron Man 2 was before that.
I think Rhodey was permanently paralyzed, throughout the rest of the MCU, with the prosthetic exo-skeleton brace in every appearance after. You can see it in Infinity War, when Ross demands that Cap be arrested / court marshalled.
@@reflectionist There’s a lot of debate about when Dr. Strange takes place. It’s pretty clear that the events of the movie take place over at least a year of time, considering the amount of healing and surgeries Stephen goes through and his time spent in training in Kamar Taj, but when this takes place in the timeline is a little unclear. He’s mentioned by name in relation to Project Insight in Winter Soldier and is one of the targets shown on the map in New York in Greenwich. However, when Banner goes back in time to retrieve the time stone in Endgame, the Ancient One tells him he’s 5 years too early and Strange isn’t there yet, and if I remember correctly that takes place during Avengers, so that muddies the waters a bit. Could be hyperbole on AO’s part, or it could be a concrete clue to the timeline, I just don’t know.
Also, I think Rhodey is older than 35 in Civil War, otherwise he’d have to be in his mid/late 20s in the first Iron Man and that would be very young to achieve a rank of colonel. If we assume that the MCU follows the same time as their movie releases (barring flashbacks and “history”) then Rhodey would be 40 in Iron Man, as he was canonically born in 1968 (as seen on his badge).
Personally, I think Dr. Strange mostly takes place in the time between Avengers and Age of Ultron, and that he was training in Kamar Taj during the Chitauri invasion in Avengers. It’s possible that only the post credits scene with Thor actually takes place in “Real Time” and everything prior to that falls into the “character history” category like most of Captain America. It’s unknown how long he spent studying magic, but I think he didn’t become the Sorcery Supreme until shortly before Winter Soldier takes place.
I think the the evidence I can’t get over for the theory that Dr Strange takes place after civil war is Rhodey’s age, and Project Insight. Why would Strange be targeted by Hydra if he was just a surgeon before his accident? Even if they targeted him as a potential threat because he was in training, that would still mean the mention of the 35 yo colonel happens prior to Rhodey’s injury. Also, the colonel mentioned was healed (was he? I’m honestly not sure if that was the case, but the other guy mentioned certainly was), and Rhodey clearly is still recovering.
@@calibadgerdude6082 Maybe! I just read a long explanation from another website that thinks that the person in Dr. Strange wasn't mentioned as being "Air Force" when he was. I don't know. I think it's probably about as likely as the kid in Iron Man 2 being Peter Parker. But I guess even Scott Derrickson, who directed Doctor Strange, says that it's not Rhodey.
@@reflectionist It's actually been a really interesting topic. XD You brought up a lot of good points, and I spent a stupid amount of time doing some research last night (really early this morning to be precise) to look into the facts of the matter. The only thing that's really clear about any of it is that it's not really clear at all. :P There's always been a bit of a kerfuffle with the MCU timeline in regards to the actual order of events, mostly regarding easter eggs and cross-references to other movies. Doesn't make the films any less fun though.
It took Tony Stark a decade to change his character's arc but it took just a movie for Dr. Stephen Strange to change his, but still we like both of them equally & that's the beauty & speciality of MCU
When I was a kid in the 70s I thought Vincent Price would be a perfect Doctor Strange.
5:34. He talks about the accident of James Rhodes (War Machine) in Captain America: Civil War.
