I love when they say it’s not working, then you open the drawers and it’s completely loaded with product
They will leave it in all day. Minimum wage employees aren't paid enough to care
@@bhuteholethey aren’t trained to care. As a former minimum wage employee, we temped the fridges and freezers several times daily. And if it wasn’t maintaining we moved the product and told management right away.
@bhutehole Why would the employees care if management doesn't? 😅
@@bhuteholeit’s management not the crew. Management will tell them to just leave the product in it cause they’re busy instead of moving the product so it doesn’t go bad.
I get that occasionally at the coffee-and-donut shop I work for.
"Keep an eye on this, it's been temping too warm."
**dramatic eye roll, deep sigh**
"OK... Why is there still food in it, if it's temping too warm? Do you want us to get sued or something?"
Gotta love when they know the box isn't down to temperature but they keep the food in it anyways. I know food is good for 6 hours when it gets past 41 degrees but I bet we all know that wasn't the case here.
If a bunch of people end up in the hospital , do you think they ( authority) will figure it out?
@markae0 I do some work for a chain pizza place and a customer of theirs walked in while I was working on their pizza prep cooler and asked "This the place that got people sick with cookie dough?"
They replied "Yes!" AND LAUGHED. They still got pizza from them. So in short yes an authority will track down what happened but no it wont deter people as much as youd hope 😂
I don't have this happen often that they don't approve repairs or further diagnosis.....but when it does happen......✌️✌️✌️✌️....and on to the next one. The heating and air works at my house.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO THE HVACR FAMILY
Where I worked, they had a capital construction remodel done in the food service and culinary arts areas(a college). Walk-in coolers and freezers were added with remote condensing units installed on the roof. This work was done by contractors who were part of the bids for the remodel. I always had problems with these during cooler and winter ambient temps (in the Buffalo, NY area). After the warranty time, I had to figure this out since the contractor techs just topped off the charge all the time. I got all the info on the units, researched them and got it down to the head pressure control valves. I tested the valves and had two bad ones I had to replace. Comes down to, the installers never added the extra winter charge. So I recovered each unit and then recharged them to include the winter charge in addition to the normal charge, following the service manual for the unit model numbers. I never had problems like that after doing the proper charges.
Horrible that they don't let you fix the refrigerant leak. 👍👍
Usually when the system breaks down then it will cost double for the repairs 😉 it adds up quick. Cheap for them to keep adding refrigerant. Condenser Motor is about to crap out. Then you slap them with a I TOLD YOU service bill 😂
Business must not be going well for them if they don't have the money to spend for it. Conversely the business is not doing well if they are simply choosing to not have the repairs done.
Its funny how that ties together perfectly like that.
One good thing in Canada is you cannot legally refill a system with a known leak.
Can just force them to fix properly 🙏
@@rcbasher101 o wow. So you find the leak then what. Is the customer forced to do the repairs?
Customer not forced to make repairs when you cannot just add refrigerant to a system you know has a leak .but they will if they want the machine to work
God I hate how the short numbers game trumps better judgement.
Great Video Chris! Our Biggest customer finally increased their NTE so we can fix most leaks firat time, however the HVAC system is another story. We can only do what the customer will allow.
I switched companies to a heavy commercial/industrial shop, and I’ve been so used to NTE constraints that I still ask for verbal approval. 99% of the time they don’t care what it takes to get their equipment back up and running. Four years of restaurant work has made me more cautious with hard to deal with customers
There can be only one king, the others are usurper valves.
"Heat producing device" lol, love it. Great video as always! excellent breakdown of everything as you work along
Back in Europe there's no such option for the customer to deny a leak check. If the system is low on charge they're obliged to let us do it due to the f-gas regulation. As I've mentioned earlier we can't just gas and go w/o presenting any leak repair...
In Portugal is like that, but you're obligated to do a leak check up to 30 days later, after the repair.
same in ontario canada
@@antoniobanza Yup, same here. The follow-up leak check
Happy Thansgiving to you and your family.
Be back again awesome video compressor burn out happy holidays to you and your family
king valve and queen valve? Is this chess or the refrigeration kingdom!
You have a great Thanksgiving too!
Can’t win them all. But customer is king.
I want to say thank you for your videos and happy Thanksgiving to you
Hi Chris, I can’t tell you how much I’ve l learned with your videos keep them coming GOD bless you and your family
It's good to know that I'm not the only one who's customers sometimes delay the final repair...
The next time they may be need to replace the new system due to more leak and compressor damage.
Leaks don’t go away!
huh i never unsubbed you i was wondering where you went.. weird.. I am back though lol love the content
Nice Video. Last drawer you closed looked like it had no gasket! Would like to see how you check superheat at each coil when the coils are that small and all on same unit? I get that wasn't the problem here, but if I have lowboy drawer set up and change one coil/txv its hard to check sh because of the common suction, one valve could be overfeeding/underfeeding.
I think evaporator temp could be used
Pay a little now or pay a lot later it always works that way
Waiting for that Food Inspector call to come in. They are in SO much trouble then...
Great Video. Have a nice weekend and Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing
Unfortunately the Employees Don’t give a Crap about Damaging the Equipment because they Didn’t have to Pay for it. May treat things they Bought, Better. 🤔
i figure they should at least allow you to quickly probe and find the leak that way when you have to return for the repeat issue if it should be especially slow at that time you get there maybe you could repair the leak before things get slammed
Your videos are great 👏 had a friend reccomend your channel and it's brilliant 🎉
Thanks bud
That is what is the most upsetting to me all they want pore gas in it get it up and running they don’t want to fix whats costing them money time after time in the long run. 🙄. But happy T day to you and family
They want to gas N go fine. easy money but at the same time it's gonna break and they will call at 3AM that they need it fixed asap before they open.
Wow the holidays... hmmmm thats when I used to get the most refrigeration service calls for milk and Icecream truck cold hold units ans Thermo king refrigeration units... more meals and sleep interrupted at those times weekend and holidays
So in this case the solution to floodback was to partially close the suction service valve?
what do you think ,about suction pressure regulator ?
Need to purge the hose or no need
out of curiosity.. have you ever heard of or worked on an american event services A/C unit or chiller? would likely be for sunbelt or united rentals..
No I havent
@@HVACRVIDEOS ah. Thank you. Was just curious because i work for them.
Please let me know which camera do you use for the IR reading. Great video Chris!
Aren't they aware of the fact that knowingly releasing that stuff into the atmosphere is against the law. What's the thought process? Get the EPA to pay for the fix?
On package units that have the manufacturer stats label .
When it says test pressure 175 psi is that while the compressor is running or off ?
You can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink it 😢
Cause no one is more important than the King. He can stop everything.
Well, since the customer wanting to wait, he’ll get the extra 1/3 more cost added to this visit. Solves that problem.
08:50 Here you can see clearly that there is quite a big offset between the IR image and the visible light image when the camera's software overlay the 2 images together. I'm sure you use other methods to verify the results, but it would be nice to be aware of this issue, and orient the camera such that the parallax does not affect the accuracy of your measurement. 👍
The FLIR camera has an adjustment to line them up. He didn't use it for some reason..
@@MattTrevettthey’re only so good. the US military has regulations against the accuracy of commercial thermal cameras
@@pigalexIt's good enough for what he's using it for. Just needs to have the alignment corrected, which takes a couple button presses.
That loud compressor noise was from floodback? It sounded more like a scroll compressor going bad
I don’t remember the actual wording of the regulation but at what point are they pushing EPA regulations by refusing to leak check and repair?
If system leaks total charge within a year, it must be fixed or replaced
Regs changed then, after the implementations of them after the Montreal Protocol in the late ‘80’s. No more dumping a charge into the air, only deminimus release allowed such as in gage set hoses, recovery machines were required, and any leak found must be repaired in a reasonable but limited time. Not following these rules and getting caught resulted in possible high cost fines; there was a “bounty” system then, where someone could report an obvious disregard of these rules and receive a reward if the infraction was found to be a blatant infraction.
Of course they're gonna want a Band-Aid solution, being so close to the end of the fiscal year. The better their profit margins, the better -their bonuses- their financial outlook for the coming fiscal year, which is something investors and shareholders care about more than anything.
Roto lock suction valve
ALWAYS a problem with filthy low boys that never get cleaned out ..
Pinhole coil leaks are ALWAYS present in those when they let the rotting food build up in the back.
And they never have time to clean things until the health department gets involved .
Leaks especially in boxes that they have citrus or brine product storage. If there’s one leak, others are also there or will leak awry soon. Replace the coil. And I always used a spray-on coil protector on the new one.
Would the long defrost time from 1am-3am on that defrost timer cause the box temperature to rise?
if it's working right and they're closed at that time, the food should stay at safe temperature, coils fully defrost and everything recovery pretty fast when it leaves defrost.
now if they leave the (stupidly placed and broken down) cooking equipment overtop of them on all night, all bets are off. the cooking equipment above them is likely broken, missing parts, air circulation and directly heating the temporary "line cooking" boxes below. they are really only meant to store the product that will be used in roughly a few hours time anyway.(yeah, nobody knows/does that and it gets used for all day/multiple days storage.)
Has anyone out there had to take a customer to small claims court? A major hotel chain has owed me 1100 for almost a year now. The damn manager has several copies of the invoice that I've personally delivered over the last 10 months. Any suggestion
You’re gonna spend more than 1100 in legal fees and wasted time… if you wanna prove a point you can go for it but for something that small I personally would write it off and never do work for that customer again…
Thanks for your advice.
Yeah, the king valve is always on the receiver's outlet.
Would it be wish to start working on bigger systems? This small stuff.... Simpel, cheap, not much repair budget
I dont not what it is about refrigeration the I liked really bad i work on refrigeration company and is ben the best fill to work.
Hey Chris I noticed you never show how you heat the receiver. Are you using your torch ??
He cant show it because we have idiots that will mimic this behavior then get hurt and want to blame someone for their stupidity. They will sue Chris. He says heat producing device. Infer what you will from that.
You asking the question says you may not have refrigeration experience let alone knowledge of the problem that can happen using a torch on refrigerant. IE flammable.
@@sherwinalvarez7365you can sue someone for literally anything.
If he is in such danger of being sued for that he could be sued for just about anything he does here like oh idk electricity?😅
Oh and you can probally just use a heat gun. This is probally why he said heat producing device. It's safer too.
Do you really think your condescending jab was necessary on a learning channel?
And that would leak detector doesn't work you need to find one that does everybody's knows that one doesn't work now it's expensive but it just doesn't work
Sounds like this customer's fiscal cycle ends in November/December so you get to deal with it as a consequence
By law in Europe we have to remove the remaining refrigerant and isolate the unit. Doesn’t leave them much choice 😂
50* is NOT low ambient. The system will not migrate until closer to 0*F
Why don't you show us your"heat producing device"😂😂😂 I get it, you don't want anyone to know you use a torch on a pressurized cylinder
Typical restaurant push the problem down the road
Those are the restaurants i do not eat at. Just saying.
I find it so odd seeing some of the things that you do. Here they banned single use gas bottles, as well as if you know the system has a leak you are not allowed to put gas in it. we aren't allowed to put in chasing gas either to check for leaks on an empty system either.
725 thumbs up
here is the deal it's their money if they want to waste it in the long term so be it more money for us
It's another 5 metric tons of CO2 equivalent in OUR atmosphere.
But you are the one that could be fined…
@@Jehty_ I know but you can beat stupid
@@jollygreen4639 what?
Just what I said. If you tell them there’s a ton of leaks and they don’t want to fix it or replace it, it could possibly lead to a fine because you didn’t do due diligence in stopping the refrigerant to escape to atmosphere. It’s a maybe, maybe not situation. IMHO…
My picture is bigger
