  • Power to Methanol was nominated for the ‪@essenscia‬ Innovation Awards 2022.
Methanol is one of the foundations of the chemical industry. It is an essential raw material used across countless processes and products. Its production, however, is energy intensive and results in the release of large amounts of CO2.
The Power to Methanol Antwerp initiative aims to produce sustainable methanol, based on hydrogen produced from renewable energy and captured CO2. Within the consortium of seven players, INEOS-INOVYN takes an important role: it brings its expertise in hydrogen production and electrolysis and will also operate the demonstration plant on its site in Lillo. Other partners in the consortium are ENGIE, Indaver, Fluxys, Advario, PMV and Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The Flemish government is also supporting the project with a funding of €1 million for the engineering phase, while further European funds have also been applied for.
PtMA is the first plant in Belgium to employ such technology and by the time it begins operations, by the end of 2024, will save one tonne of carbon emissions for every tonne of methanol produced. At a capacity of 8,000 tonnes per year, that’s the equivalent of the annual emissions of 1,250 Belgians.

Zeer interessant project! Niet alleen voor chemie, maar ook E-fuel dus.
