It's beyond me why she rarely had good choreography (except a few charming programs) and why her coach did not drill her in better free leg positions in the camel and the layback. It's as if they invested in her halfway and expected her to produce gold medals for the Supreme Soviet.
This was a weird program. Her footwork looked terrible in the early section. I didn't see any clean triples either. I've always preferred the Russian style of Figure Skating, at least before 2002, but this was dreadful. At least she knew it when the program was complete. Too bad :(
I wonder if she was sick...or drunk or something. She was a way better skater than this. The program itself was not worthy of an elite skater's Olympic program.
She had sleeping problems from 1986. She simply couldn't fall asleep at competitions and was constantly tired. The drinking problem came later. Read her story on the Skate Guard Blog (it is called 'The Untold Story of Kira Ivanova').
Kira's style was always cool and different. RIP. :(

This was 1988. Debi Thomas had only 2 clean triples, badly stumbled out of 3 triples, and got technical marks as high as 5.8,lol!
