This is a game tribute to the unfinished cult animated film The Thief and the Cobbler, which was written and directed by three-time Academy Award winning animator Richard Williams (animation director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, author of The Animator’s Survival Kit).
You can play as four characters- the nameless Thief, Tack the Cobbler, Chief Roofless of the forty Brigands, and Princess Yum Yum. Enemies include the evil Grand Vizier, Zig Zag, and his henchmen Goblet, Gopher, Tickle and Slap. You’ll also meet the mad and holy old Witch of the desert mountain, who will both help and harm you. You’ll have to deal with lots of annoying animals, plus the vulture Phido and the deadly doggie Kuriboss.
It’s a side-scrolling adventure through seven worlds to retrieve the legendary golden balls, defeat the evil warlord One Eye, and save the Golden City!
Most of the graphics have been tweaked or replaced, and the levels have also been changed slightly.
The hack itself is by the film restorationist behind The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut. The film was thirty years in the making. The hack was not.

this feels like looking into an alternate universe where ttatc took aladdin’s place and this romhack is just the version of the snes aladdin game
If the feature film would adapt a Dragon Lair-kind game, when two playable characters: Tack and the thief take place in famous/experience scenes.
Ah, plus the changing of soundtrack and level designs to faithful plot when we'll differently feel. =)
Also lots of death animations if you fail
i have to really appreciate the detail in making most of the enemies into the livestock and miscellaneous animals that populate the streets of the golden city, triclyde into the guard dogs hidden in yum yums bed, tacks pet mouse as the cherry in the slot minigame, phido as the albatrosses, zig zags playing card projectiles, the One-Eye phantoms, and the witch as the world 4 boss. while i also love roofless as toad i think nanny could have easily also been that
You forgot King One-Eye as Wart and some of Zigzag's minions as Mouser and Clawgrip.
This is a pretty impressive sprite hack of Super Mario Bros 2 to look like if The Thief and the Cobbler came out in the 80's complete and Nintendo wanted to make a game off of it.
Somewhere in an alternate universe Thief and the Cobbler got an NES game thats weird as hell and somewhat difficult
One Eye got KO'd by vegetables, How embarrassing.

You’d think the hacker would’ve used more Doki Doki Panic music. At least replaced the SMB1 Subspace remix with its original incarnation

Excuse me, does anyone know how to extract files from a ips folder?
An IPS is not a folder. It's a patch to be applied to another file ... in this case a ROM of Super Mario Bros 2 ... using a patching program such as Lunar IPS.
ROMhacks are shared in this format for copyright reasons, as they're useless without a ROM of the original game and contain no useable copyrighted data on their own.
1:05 is literally the Mario Song, wow a knock off of a knockoff
Super Mario Bros 2 was literally just a knock off of Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic, I don't know what else to tell you
