- Rodney v KFC for the Atari ST and Atari STe is a cool platformer released a couple of years ago by Padman. I'm playing this on my Mega STe. You can read more about it here for downloads and more: ataricrypt.blogspot.com/2022/...

Yeah, good game (or demo…) When I saw it, a few years ago, I wanted to check also Ruff ‘n Tumble for 1st time on Amiga, which is a masterpiece by the way. It’s a pitty that Rodney only has one level, as a demo is fantastic, but I wish some day somebody continues it with more levels and enemies, because it looks really good and it deserves an expansion, who can continue this brillant work? Come on, we need it!
That's exactly what I was thinking too and it would be great if padman was to update it throughout the years to come. Brilliant game with so much potential.
Great graphics and sound. Very thorough blog write up. Can't believe they made this on GFA Basic!
You and me both! That aspect alone is so impressive as all I can program is:
10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
20 GOTO 10
RUN
Hey Steve, after trying to work in STOS with the Hardware Scrolling, I can see why he might have left it our for the STE version. Creating a tile-based platform game to work on an ST is pretty time consuming, but (for the most part) your code isn't easily sped up by using the hardware scrolling, you have to re-write you engine to use it. So unless you ONLY want to target the STE, it's less time consuming to ADD STE sound and colors rather than scrolling.
Since I haven't talked to him, I don't know if this is the reason, but it is the reason I am leaving it out of my Scramble port and just adding a full sound track option for the STE instead of working on the hardware scrolling with tiles for this game. It's a different animal that needs a lot of exploration and possibly is only really possible with fill blown assembly or the AGT C library.
Ah I see. I did have a piece at the end of the website review "moaning" about that some more... but... I decided to remove it because it seemed unfair as it's a freebie game and I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to programming anyhow! So my desire for more STe support seemed unjust I thought.
So basically you're saying that if you're gonna utilise more of this great computer then it'll be when a specific STe game is in the works. Not when it's an ST game with upgraded add-on features. I see. Thanks mate for that explanation. Makes sense I guess even though I'm gutted it's not so doable.
So you'll have to develop an STe only version of Scramble. You walked into that one... :p
@@AtariCrypt Yes, I mean, when I get more experience I will add STE features as an option, but it's Like making two games, two different types of rendering two different collision detection schemes, etc. It definitely can be done, but it takes a lot time. I will be doing it though in my second game, bit I will do it for Scramble too. =)
@@IntoTheVerticalBlank As a non-programmer, I get it mate. Thanks :)
Let me know as and when you have anything to playtest. Dying to see what you're doing. (esp STe)
@@AtariCrypt I had a problem getting one of the libraries to do collision detection properly, but i have it worked out now, so I'm on level building. I'll have a playable demo version out in a couple weeks.
@@IntoTheVerticalBlank EXCELLENT!!!! Wish I had the talent. Well done mate. Crack on!! :D
Main character looks lifted from Ruff n’ Tumble on Amiga 🙂
Yeah an unreleased Amiga game from what I hear. It's cool too!
@@AtariCrypt Nono, Ruff'n'Tumble was released in 1994 -> ua-cam.com/video/gCGtT6LuwK4/v-deo.html
@@OnyxSoft Ah nice!! I thought it was unreleased from what I'd heard... Looks good, like a Jim Power or something. Shame I'll never buy an Amiga ;-)
Bonjour Steve,
J'aurais bien aimé connaitre ce jeu : Rod VS KFC en 1989.
J'ai un peu cherché : le jeu est sorti en 2019 et il est programmé en GFA Basic.
Cordialement.
yes mate, it was released back in 2019 as is.

Looks excellent! I am assuming this is the standard Atari ST version.
:o You didn’t click the link and visit my website site 😢 Heh STe version because of music which is ace
Guess they use assembler for fast sprite routines. Very sure this is not 100% GFA. Very nice game non the less!!
