    Correction - The fanned frets are not for intonation, it facilitates multiscale tuning (which is why the bridge is angled)

      Fanned frets also allow a separate radius for bass and treble strings.

      The minor fan in the frets helps intonation superbly, you can play higher on the bass strings and they sound completely in tune. Also string tension is more even especially in the lower strings, you get a snap on the E string but slinky feel up the treble strings.

    Just so you know, the reason for the fan frets is because it is multi-scale. The high "E" is 25" while the low "E" is 25-1/2. Has really nothing to do with proper intonation. Having one myself I can tell you they are extremely comfortable to play and the fan frets aren't a problem at all.

  • @Masterfighterx

    Fan frets is to have different scale lenght from E to e to have more optimal string tension across the strings.
    True temperament frets on the other hand is for the intonation.

    Thanks for featuring my guitar Trogly! I love the weird Japan-exclusive stuff!
    I'll answer any questions people have about it.
    The fanned frets are for multi-scale string tension, not tuning. On a 6 string it's pretty gentle going from a 25.5" on the bass side to 25.0" on the treble side. 7+ string fanned fret guitars will have more extreme fanning. In about 45mins to an hour I got comfortable with it and am able to transition between it and straight fret guitars with no muscle memory issues, so don't be afraid of fanned frets!
    I do want to mention the 12th fret marker is the logo for LOCK's band, Raise a Suilen, not a personal logo.

    First off its really cool to see this one featured here. I'd love to have the 7 string version myself. This is the budget version of this guitar and the specs on the high end one are crazy but so is the price. When it comes to the bang dream stuff across the board the price difference between the two models is crazy. Then to clear up a few bang dream factoids the 12th fret inlay is actually part of Raise A Suilen's logo which is the band LOCK is the guitarist for. There's alot of bands now that stem from the game, some of which have become real and others that likely never will due to how they've gone about putting them together. Of the ones that do exist quite a few of the voice talents involved were already musicians and do record stuff but generally aren't too involved with writing and such. To anyone else interested in models from the brand please NGD them with Trogly so we can get more episodes showing them off!

Just need the Layer bass and maybe one day I'll consider the MyGO!!!!! guitars, but Rana and Soyo's axes look so ugly to me lol.

    The fanned frets is actually more about string tension than intonation. Meaning, the higher bendy strings are a short scale, easier for sweeping, bending, shredding, while the lower strings maintain a longer scale to avoid any pitch drift for slamming drop tuned riffs.

  • @Eden21425
    @Eden21425 Рік тому +3

    i have a strandberg, and honestly i dont like the neck profile alot, but the cutaway for the leg which makes shredding in classical position way more easy and the extremely light weight still make it one of my favorite guitars.

  • @BrentAdams

    While I do NOT own one...Strandberg Boden guitars have huge benefits in ergonomics. That is the main point of the Strandberg designs. I do own a headless, Multi Scale, Fan Fret, Agile Chiral Parallax guitar (8 string) that I never would have imagined me having the least interest in...... and I LOVE it! These guitars are designed to be played while "wearing it" higher than your typical "Rock Guitar".

  • @pepapu7112
    @pepapu7112 Рік тому +5

    7:49 I think the fanned frets' purpose isn't to make the guitar intonate better but to increase the string tension on the bass side and lower it on the treble side, which is very much needed on 7 or 8-string guitars as the string tension will just plainly feel bad if the scale length remains the same across the whole plethora of strings. The bass strings would feel floppy with a shorter scale length and the treble strings would feel hard to bend with a longer scale length, and here comes the fanned frets so each string would have its own appropriate scale length and string tension, which is why fanned frets are also called multi-scale. To help you understand the reasoning better, think about why basses and baritone guitars have a longer scale length than your typical 6-string guitars.

    • @Eddywuxhere
      @Eddywuxhere Рік тому

    • @pepapu7112
      @pepapu7112 Рік тому +2

      So I just thought very hard about how multi-scale can help improve intonation and came up with an idea: bass strings always require a higher action than treble strings, and think about how when fretting further up the fretboard on a normal parallel fret guitar, a bass string would be longer than a treble string since the bass string sits higher at the bridge(Pythagoras theorem), and it would be more tensioned as it has to be pressed deeper to make contact with the frets. By slightly adjusting the angle of each fanned fret, you may be able to compensate for that difference in tension and scale a little bit better on top of just optimizing string tension for playability.

    I would actually be really curious to find out what a neck like that feels like and see what a more high neck of the same design one would behave like long term.
    I also really like the functional aspect of the way the output jack is mounted to the back plate. If a guy took that concept to the extreme and mounted the entire circuit to the back plate, you could have entirely different swappable point to point circuits for your guitar that you just plug into the pickups and ground and screw that plate down.
    There used to be a Randall head back in the day where you could swap out the preamp circuits. They were mounted in a sort of cassette that you slid in the front of the cabinet. I think there were 3 different preamp “cassettes “ that you could get for it. They ranged from mildly overdrivey to classic Randall chainsaw distortion in nature.
    But then; I digress…
    There are some good ideas in this guitar’s design. The downside is that they’re expressed with cheap materials and components.

    I never expected seeing this one on the channel. I’m a big fan of the franchise and own a Japanese made Strandberg Lock model(the model actually used in the series, the one in the video is the more accessible scale down version), which has quite a few upgrades such as woods and hardwares, loaded with a set of Fishman Fluence Modern PUs.
    Tbh these specs are not for me, I actually hate its sound, even with the “vintage” setting it sounds too modern and lifeless to me, and it’s crazy expensive. But I absolutely love the look, the weight and flashiness when played in a dark environment(Fret inlays and the logo are glowing). The feel of Endurneck is quite unique, not my favorite but for the style it intended to play I can get used to it, and it’s really comfortable to play it sitting down.

    It's definitely some form of deviation from your ordinary specimen to demonstrate, Trogly. Glad you did not let it hold you back.

    Tried one of these at my local shop and hated the neck carve. And it had fret sprout worse than ive seen on any new guitar. I always thought of strandberg as really high quality until i tried them

      Despite the cringe name, it’s surprisingly wholesome (as are other shows in the same genre). There aren’t any gender relationships - in fact there aren’t any male characters featured lol. Hope that clarifies things!

      That's just what it's called in Japanese. It's a Japan-exclusive model so it doesn't need to make sense in English. People who enjoy the show often joke about how it seems like there's no men in its universe lol.

      Nope. It weighs hardly anything and balances pretty much flawlessly.
