- Dan Hayes runs Mainoru Station, a 1,300-square-kilometre property skirting the bottom of Arnhem Land in the Top End.
He is also the station pilot, and is quite simply a gun in the sky.
He lurches from the sky through the scrub, halting buffalo in their tracks as he hovers only a few metres from the earth.
Just as quickly as he's down, he's back up, buzzing away toward the next mob.
In something akin to a Mad Max scene, family and friends below hoon along in bull catchers, using a hydraulic arm to catch the buffalo around the neck and guide it back to a nearby truck.

I’m amazed that someone can fly a chopper like that for 30 years and still be in one piece. Must have unbelievable skill level. If Australia is ever in a war then call this guy straight away he will save the nation. Top Gun!

Whats he talking about? Theres tons of money in australian beef and leather. Australia needs a ton more ranchers. Its growing population needs to keep up with demand. I suggest crossing cows with buffelo.

Why are so many different kinds of feral animals in Australia? Goats,rabbits and buffalo?
If you imagine coming to a new land. Being unfamiliar with it. Often people bring animals they are familiar with. Such as the English brought Rabbits for hunting etc. So like ignorant fools they released them into the wild. No idea the damage they would do. Just so they could hunt them. Buffalo brought for using as cart animals. Transport, food. Think of them as the Road trains of the past. Camels also the same thing. Goats of course for meat. Every country has issues. The amount of people in the past that just dump animals. Even down to dumping things like invasive fish from Aquariums.

Every buffalo appears to be a challenge to get to the processing area with the cost of labour and a helicopter profit margins must be tight in ireland the cattle just walk into the truk and still the profits are minimal Eddie

Its not that hard to get a firearms licence for hunting. If your willing to go this far into the outback to hunt, then you have enough time to get a licence.
