Hi, I will hopefully be an internationell fashion business student. The popular Fashion schools are very expensive though. From your knowledge/experience does one have to go to specific fashion schools in order to be able to get job and career opportunities?
I definitely think so... for two reasons. First reason is the connections that we make at those top tier schools. I went to Parsons, extremely expensive but 100% worth it because of the opportunities that I got and the people that I meet. When it comes to any higher education, the most important aspect of the school is not really what you learn but more so the connections that you make while you are learning. Now a days we can learn pretty much anything online. The most invaluable things I received were job opportunities from teachers recognizing my quality of work, classmates recommending me for other jobs, and a global network of people like me that I went to school with. The second reason is that because the fashion industry is so competitive, they are more likely to pick a candidate that went to a school that they recognize as being a school that pushes out success stories. All that being said.... if you can prove your work is the same or better quality than that of others applying to the same job, none of it matters. Better work is better work. Good luck with your school process! p.s. Look into FIT. It is slightly less expensive than some of the other extremely expensive private schools and has a world class recognition of being one of the best fashion schools in the world.
