      I lived in Yosemite August of '91 - August of '92. BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE! And I remember November being my favorite month, in terms of the scenery. I lived in Curry Village (is it still called Curry Village?), then near the Yosemite Lodge, then quit working and became a "park bum." Slept on a rock below Glacier Point. Summer of '92, I volunteered for the park service and lived in Backpacker's Walk-In campground. Do they still have the free wine tastings at the Ahwahnee Hotel? Anyway, I better end this comment before I write a friggin book. Oh yeah, winter is brutal. It's beautiful, but can get very depressing with so few people and so little direct sunlight in the Valley.

      @@aaronslater470 emo IS a shite development. The nation is experiencing an insidious cancer of culture...more vapid and meaningless and hollow than the empty heads of the young that are promulgating their social media lobotomizing brain washed ideology of identity politics. Unread, uncreative, uneducated, unthinking... they try to fill their void by claiming and integrating any intellectual property, style, music, whatever... and then spit out the "new" dead version of it. Like when amazon took lord of the rings and shat out rings of power. Emo is what happened when people wanted to take goth and claim goth, but failed to realize that it wasn't just a clothing fashion thing. That's why emos had all godawful music, and no creative or introspective mindsets... just the mediocrity/ commonality of mental depression which they channeled into the new era mindset of claiming affects for attention and specialness (like being trans or some other self marginalized 'victim' special group). But that is fortunately why emo will ultimately fade, because it is simply imitators participating in a fashion fad... there wont' be emos in 30 years still proud to be emo. Goth is an actual culture, with an actual community... with shared tastes in music, art, media, and members that span multiple generations; elder goths are not shamed, they are respected...even if they want to show up at a dance club. Goths thrive on living in a fringe, and fortunately, emo proves that no matter how many Chelseas die their hair blue and take up a cause... get piercings and tattoos, there is still something ephemeral and special that separates goth with substance and depth.

    Being goth is often misunderstood as a superficial fascination with darkness, exemplified by devil worship or excessive makeup. However, the essence of goth culture is much deeper and more nuanced. It is a poetic exploration of the human experience, with a particular focus on life's inherent pain and sorrow. This perspective is not about glorifying suffering, but rather about acknowledging and understanding it as a fundamental part of our existence.

Worth listening to a German band on You Tube called Seasurfer, especially the tracks "Stay" "Fireworks" and "Dragon Song". The original lead singer, Dorian Electrique, now has a band called Loveblind AKA We Are Loveblind which are brilliant as are her very distinct vocals.@@kylecduncan

      I'm totally with you there, Nick. Peel was the one who opened the doors to so many bands and opened my ears to so much music I still treasure (on vinyl) to this day with same pleasure I had 40+ years ago. And like you I am excited to be discovering new bands (and not so new ones) in the Goth and darkwave spheres. It's a joy to know that people are dedicating their lives - often for little or no reward - to create new music. It's a balm to the soul after all the rubbish rap and cheesy pop that clogs up the airwaves like so much toxic, mind-numbing sludge.

    A great playlist and a very enjoyable aural adventure on the dark side. And the band that hits the spot for me is indeed DARK - 'In the Shadows' is a thrilling ride on the crest of the darkwave. Very happy to see She Past Away, Vandal Moon and of course the amazingly talented Helene de Thoury (Minuit Machine and Hante) here. Missing from here but on my personal play-and-repeat list are La Scaltra, Sofus Solivagante and Milicent (now transforming into Vague Phonique).

I love that when real goths get older they turn into a pink goth. Pink gotg is a original goth (og) who can go to the goth club in whatever even pink and still be the most goth.😂 It surprises me that not allot of ppl know about being or becoming a pink goth.

    • @LuridContent
      @LuridContent 8 місяців тому +3

      I think it really is a complex and personal choice. As a fan of Batcave era goth, I really don't like a bunch of electronics bouncing around in my gloom soup. A lot of the current mix of bands I'd more comfortably call dark synth/wave/electro rather than goth. I reckon it'd be hard for any nu-goth bands to unseat the classics. Though to be fair, Bauhaus, despite putting out some certified goth classics, was more into playing whatever they wanted rather than a straight up "goth" band.
