Some people are better at teaching than other people. This is a very good instructor and now we know exactly what caused the problem and what to do with a trouble code 261B is. . We now know exactly what to do to take care of the problem.- knowledge is power.
I originally was loosing coolant from the reservoir cap so replaced that and problem continued, then changed the thermostat and problem continued, I then replaced the water pump and was not sure if this was even the problem, after your details on the failure of the pump I went to my garaged and opened up the pump I pulled out and sure enough we had the same failure you described, so now I feel better knowing my daughter wont be having to call me to tell me her car has left her stranded LOL. Thank you for the video and you have my vote for great detailed content. I do not understand why they do not have a gauge to monitor your water temperature on the Prius. Ours is a 2013 with 260k miles
My issue with hybrid techs is that I haven't found one from two different dealerships that can diagnose any problem with a hybrid. In my case it is a kia niro non plug. They both wanted to call in a specialist. Really? A specialist? Isn't that what a hybrid tech is? This man takes the time to show us how to diagnose and he is fantastic.
Have been looking at your channel for a while now. Very explanatory and understandable. With respect to this particular video I was able to save some BIG BUCKS. I own a Nissan NT32 Hybrid X-trail and was getting a "High Coolant Temperature" warning and a engine check light. There was also a trouble code. I decided to attempt an inspection and repair. I was able to locate the rotor from a local seller. So I did the task yesterday. Removed the water pump and inspected it as suggested, the rotor was sticking and difficult to turn. On removal of the rotor and inspection the rotor was in fact busted with the white plastic magnet covering cracked open as shown in the video. Changed the rotor with the brand new one. Replaced the pump and everything worked fine. No codes no engine check light. Scanned it and got equivalent pump seed and target speeds. Saved $3,600 on the cost of a replacement pump (as suggested by technicians) less the cost of $350 for the brand new rotor. Do the math. Thanks again for the knowledge!! N.B. My research has shown me that the part can be purchased on Amazon for an average cost of $30-$40 USD
I have a 2017 ct200h and today it happened to my car at 87,000 miles, got stranded for 4 hrs in traffic to get home. My 2015 prius never gave me a problem it had 400,000 miles, I wonder why
Love this! my Avalon was heating up and I replaced the radiator cap then the sensor and lastly the engine thermostat. It still heated up I finally saw the CHECK ENGINE light turn on to find out the pump wasn't working. Opened it up like in your video and it was the same tear. Great video man.
I had the same problem in my 2013 prius. I found out no heat on a real cold day. But when i messed with the air control somehow it forced start the water pump and it worked. Never had overheating issue. I removed the water pump and it was stuck. Replaced with new oem water pump and thermostat and now it runs perfectly
Great video. Thanks for the info. Have a 2018 Camry LE (4cyl) with a similar electric water pump and am gathering information on replacing the pump in the future when it fails. Like you say it is too bad Toyota does not sell the rotor/electric assy seperately. Looks much easier to just replace the rotor assy rather than the entire water pump. Starting to see a lot of videos showing this failure(rotor stuck) of these electric water pumps.
Great channel great instructor and mechanic and so few subscribers..its strange..any ways wishing good luck 👍🏿. I had same issue with inverter cooling pump durring 2 months time i replaced 4 pumps and it was stop working suddenly so as a factory automation engineer i decided to investigae and opened all the pumps and found same issue that coolat somehow was penetrating the pump and it was burning brushless control circuit so at the end i found as i live in hot side of the world i removed one small ring on coolant water bottle to keep it less under pressure now its been almost a year and its flawless.many many help comes from this channel
Great video. Have came across same here in Mauritius, Electric water pump is an issue. Even the inverter Electric water pump went wrong. I used only Toyota Super Long Life coolant on these hybrid cars.
This is amazing video my friend. Not only a demonstration for water pump replacement in Toyota Hybrid, but also a solution for the manufacture to prevent the failure on their product. The opening on the rotor assembly was a great move in the end. Now we can understand the importance of proper maintenance s.s. coolant replacement on regular basis. One question, do you think that the green fluid is better for the pump rather than the pink one from Toyota? ‚
Bro I love your content and you have a good show going. Perhaps you should send the manufacturers your video and pitch the idea to mass produce the part. More business for them for you and the world of auto mechanics
I'm enjoying watching the videos Jose , just one suggestion to use silicone grease with plastic and rubber parts in the future as they can swell up with most of the other grease containing petroleum 👍
Hi, love the channel. When I start my Prius (2011) there's a water sloshing sound briefly behind dash and rough idle for 10 seconds. Not losing coolant, could it be the pump? Cheers.
I have a question my technician have replaced the pump 3 times already and the same code is showing should i switch the technician? Pruis 2010 code P261B
I have a toyota chr and code P261B and P261C. The engine was heating up, the radiator was cold and there was no heating of the cabin. I removed the pump and connected it to the connector, started the motor, the pump is running. I removed the rotor and I have no damaged rotor or stator. Will the pump also be replaceable or is another reason possible?
Hello, I have a question to consult. My 2016 Prius C has driven 250000 miles and recently experienced a high temperature alarm. I added coolant and after 3 days, there was a repeated issue, but I did not see any leakage. What is the situation? Thank you.

I have a 2010 Prius with 180K miles and no current cooling issues. I bought the car with 166K miles. I was planning to flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat. If there are no issues with the pump, would it be acceptable to just replace the cartridge vs the whole pump? Also, how does the quality of the available cartridges compare with the cartridges included with new Aisin/Toyota pumps since neither brand sells a cartridge only?
I'm getting a problem with my toyota fielder hybrid 2017 lost of power when taking off from a steep inclines and same problem when reversing up steep inclines any ideas what can be causing it
Do you need to drain the coolant before removing the pump? Not sure if coolant goes into the pump or if the assembly spins something inside the engine...

I have a question what could be the issue if don't get the code on the scan tool but when you over 3000 rpm for a little time like for example five minutes you get a high temperature error on your display what can be the issue. And again no water pump code came up
Thanks Since 2019 I've changed 3 water pump for code p261b only in the cold weather and the car doesn't give warm air until coolant temperature reaches over 100. some time I have to turn the car engine on and off to back on the road. Can it have the same problem?

The pink original coolant for it't PHOAT properties is the perfect one but in this case the customer insisted in using the green neutral one...

why do you put green coolant??? toyota specifies the pink one with phosphates. the pink one lasts 300,000 miles. the green has different inhibitors.
Is still get the same code every few days after swapping the pump but no over heating any advise. ?
Does the electric water pump for the inverter also wear out at the same rate as the engine ?
No it doesnt, temp is very much lower in the hybrid system so it will last much more...
