When you're in a public place with a bag and don't want it to get stolen, just put the strap around your leg. I've had someone try to take my purse and felt the tug on my leg, turned around, and they were running off. If it's around your neck it can just be tugged off, especially if its just in your hand. If you're sitting (restaurant, airport), its best to put it on the floor with your leg through the strap.

Sometimes it's good to have a 'messy' car. Rather than using a towel or blanket to hide your belongings (purse, valuables, shopping bags, whatever else), use a large jacket. Cover the jacket with other useless things too, a pair of boots you never wear, maybe some wrappers. If you're okay with the mess, it's better this way. If someone looks into a car and just sees a blanket neatly placed over a lump, it'll be pretty obvious that something's hiding under there. If someone looks into a car and sees just a pile of useful, but not valuable, things, they won't as easily suspect that there's anything of worth underneath. If anything, crumple the blanket you use up so that it looks discarded on the floor rather than placed neatly.

If someone has a weapon and threatens you for your bag, wallet, purse, whatever, throw what they want away from you and run. Don't hand it to them, don't get close to them. Throw it as far as you can and bail. They'll usually go after whatever you're holding rather than trying to go after you, since that was their intention in the first place.

5:18 if you live someplace where the weather is very hot often, and you keep both car windows open when you’re in in the car, I have a different “life hack” instead of the scarf thing (cause why would you have a scarf if it’s hot out?). What my girlfriend does is she takes the seatbelt and puts it through the straps of her purse and then clicks it in. That way, if someone tried to steal it, they would have to unclick the seatbelt, and she would notice before they could do that. With the scarf thing, there is a chance the scarf may be too thin, and so it easily unties. Another option if you don’t need your purse for awhile is to put it in the glove box. However, if it’s too big for the glovebox you can just put it on the floor in front of the shotgun seat, and push the chair forward (if your car has that feature) so that way it is almost impossible to reach from the outside window.

If you are in a potentially difficult situation with a stranger keep shouting FIRE not help. People aren't that heroic in general, (and won't come and help especially if you are injured, although I help people despite the fact they don't ever help me), but they are into self preservation so this causes a rush of people and disrupts the stranger.
I've done this myself.
Also with first aid (I'm experienced at this) if you have a bleeding wound that won't stop elevate the limb and apply pressure if you can. Remember the RICE method- Rest ice compression elevation for sprains and bruising.
Some of these tips are very useful, and sensible.
