Russ will always be Russ. Russ and "wise" can never go in the same sentence. He can never be the type of leader and saviour the imperium need. He can only be an attack dog that is only good at fighting in 1 vs 1 boss battles.

I don't think they need to brawl it out. They've done that. They purged the bad blood, literally and figuratively. If anything maybe a quick honor duel to put on a show for their sons, but only that. I can't imagine they'll embrace when finally meeting again, but it could very well be a warm welcome with some half-hearted jibes. Though either of them nerd-punching G-man is absolutely on the table haha

Russ is one of my top 2 favorite primarchs but I think Vulcan would be the next best loyalist to return. A forge master to help rebuild the strength of the Imperium

I’d like to see Vulcan or Dorn next. We have an strategist/administrator, a general/warmaster… we could use a defensively minded Primarch next. With that being said Vulcan may low-key be what the imperium needs. Vulcan may be able to finish the webway project that the Emperor started. That’s the real play here. An alternate form of warp travel would mean the Emperor no longer needs to sit atop the throne as the astronomicon would no longer be needed. Imagine the big E astride the universe once again. Chills.
OK so I've got an idea. The emperor was created when ancient human psykers combined their souls in the warp to create what we would come to know as the emperor. We know that at least a thousand human psyker souls are "consumed" every single day to feed the emperor's power, lighting the astronomicon and keeping the breached webway closed. However, what if those souls are never really destroyed? We know from lore involving Slaanesh that when it consumes souls, those souls never reincarnate. What if, every day a thousand more human psykers are joined with the Soul of the Emperor? What if the true goal of the sacrifices of "The Chosen" are to create a true God Emperor in the warp? What if, in order to truly save the galaxy from the chaos gods, the emperor's mortal form must die?
That makes way too much sense. However the way GW has been running things they're more likely to keep the ruse going while introducing Diversity Space Marines #They/Them
The Imperium needs The Khan and Corax to return. They'll round out the team with Guilliman and The Lion. Russ would be great to have too, but I hope we get Corax and The Khan.
He is the biggest fuckup besides Magnus. Ohh Whoopsie i have turned a loyal legion and primark to chaos but its okay i stared into a chaos possesed dudes eyes thinking magnus was on the other side. *later in the heresy* I know i should abandon Terra and throw away my legion on a sucidal attack on the vengeful spirit, i got my ass handed to me and most of my legion died but it is fine i gave horus a injury he takes 1 book to recover from . Magnus fuckup alone was bad enough but if emps send anyone beside the dumbest primark there is the heresy might have gone very diffrently with magnus powering the throne and emps being able to go slap his sons but Russ fucked up equally as bad and he didnt even have good intentions like Magnus.
@elliot being impulsive on command is just stopping using your inhibitions, not doing something extra. Not hard to imagine Russ thinking fast enough to have the impulse, and decide whether to follow it or keep up his facade or whatever.
To me, a big part of what may be Russ’ character development is him realizing that he was never meant to be The Emperor’s Executioner, but rather the policeman; the sheriff of the imperium. Russ’s last conversation with The Emperor has him being told “You were born to protect what I created.” It would be interesting to see Russ come back and find himself well suited, even comfortable in the current imperium, and feeling guilt over that comfort. Given also his close relationship with Malcador, a conflicted Russ finding himself in charge of reigning in the Inquisition would be ironic and interesting. Russ finding himself between the Grey Knights and his own sons would be a dramatic story. Maybe Russ’s own prophecy isn’t about him returning in general, but his prediction that one day when he finally returns to Fenris, is the day he dies saving his sons. Lot of interesting possibilities for Russ.
If another loyalist Primarch returns, it should be either Dorn or the Khan. One of the Primarchs who fought in the Siege of Terra being present would be a nice grim reminder to both G-Man and the Lion of their failure to get to Terra in time which perhaps would've prevented the Emperor's internment.
I think Corvus would also be able to understand his father more than most of this brothers. He was extremely well trusted by the emperor and was even given access to some very highly classified information regarding the base genome of the primarchs themselves. With his own ascension as a warp being, his own reappearance would likely be given the same treatment so he’d definitely understand, he definitely wouldn’t like it though
Mm, I'd love to see Trazyn return the body of the Fulgrim Clone, and with some help from the Eldar, put Fulgrim's soul back into the body and see how he reacts to everything that's happened to him and his legion, the guilt and regret over realizing he could have stopped Horus before the Heresy even began, and of course, come to terms with having the blood of Ferrus Manus on his hands. Seeing a redemption story of the one Traitor Primarch who never truly betrayed the Imperium willingly due to that Daemon possessed sword clouding his mind and later taking his soul, would just be DRIPPING with narrative potential.
I think they should bring Russ back by maybe having the Lion or Roboute finding some instructions for a device designed for the Golden Throne that eludes to being some kind of regenerative addon machine. When they inspect the area of n the golden throne that the said device is supposed to be connected, right above it there is an insignia of a wolf’s head. Enter Russ with the “tree of Life.” Obviously the story would be told by a professional but it’s just what I would like the premise to be to get the Wolf king to come back and make sense.
Wild theory. The "Emperors Executioner" has a double meaning. He will return and ironically fight alongside the Grey Knights to enact the Terminus Decree.
Perhaps this becomes the big dilemma as russ returns with the tree of life and then the primarchs are split on whether to kill the emperor to save him or to bring him back to life and perhaps both are the correct answer but would result in two very different emperors so what to do; kill or revive
Just like the Lion aged while he snoozed for 10,000 years, I hope Lion El'Jonson has partially succumbed to the Curse of the Wulfen when he returns, too animalistic to take much interest in the philosophical questions. The Eye of Terror caused Corvus Corax to transform and could do the same to Russ. And if he had partially been transformed, that would make the secret of his whereabouts that much tastier for Magnus. It would also mean his return would be good for the other Primarchs, but maybe deepen the division between the Primarchs, their Space Marines and the Inquisition.
This is a personal hope of mine, I hope that in the new lore that the rangda re emerge, after all they decimated the Dark angels and space wolf legions, and a different Xenos threat would be cool
Russ will be next because he will sell the most minis. Corax should have been second or first but Raven Guard will not sell. Corax is going after true instigator of HH, Lorgar and Word Bearers.

Now you could make the point he needs one of his brothers to get him out of his Emo/warp funk, but he was the only non-comatose and known activity in the lore. The other 3 (4 if presuming Dorn is alive) we only know where they left to, not where they are. 2 confirmed dead 1 presumed dead 2 in stasis (now returned) 3 left with no recent lore sightings 1 known to be hunting Lorgar IMO Corax should have killed Lorgar and returned to Imperium. Otherwise what does that say about his hunting skills, or Lorgar capability to hide for 10k years. Having him return without killing Lorgar is a huge plot hole...Otherwise why even have him come back. I really enjoyed Corax in the Lore, but he was so much better than Lorgar. I’d love to see Russ back and interacting with Lion. They finally got totally cool with each other to the point Russ was totally distraught when Lion went missing. It would be cool seeing those two total badasses fighting together.
Given recent events in the setting, my top two candidates for returning next are Leman Russ, who is my first choice, and Jaghatai Khan, whom I consider a possibility now because of the Webway getting more involved now.
Doesn't really surprise me Russ might take it better than Guillemine... As I recall Robute is minimally psychically sensitive, why would an administrator need it? Where as Russ came from a psychically active world.
The Lion is as impulsive and brash as it can get without being a detriment to the universe, and he had to go through an amnesiac's fever dream to get that way. Russ wasn't a good choice before the Heresy and he would be a worse one now as he would just cause another disaster like on Prospero.
I actually think the Primarch most needed is Jaghati. He's not gonna rock the boat with Guilliman or Lion. Very much do his own thing. Gather his legion and start and great cleansing crusade. What the Imperium needs the most is Malcador to re-align everything broken by petty human nature but since that's not possible a less demanding presence i.e Jaghati would help.
I just hope Russ grabs the chance to challenge the Emperor to an eating competition again now that he's been sitting inactive for 10,000 years and likely hasnt got much of an appetite. Strategic advantage!
Lion will probably ignore Bobby G and do what he thinks best but would be interesting to see how Russ reacts to Bobby. Would he accept his role as Lord Commander and essentially take some suggested directions or just go AWOL and do what he thinks best? The traitor primarchs are brought down by the fact they never cooperate and even hamper each other. Loyalists need to cooperate as that's their only edge.
Do you ever think that russ may come back as a giant self-controlled lycanthrope with immense power due to the curse. Or that maybe the reason he has yet to return is because he has fallen to the curse.

I’m willing to be big money Dorn is on his way back. If they had any brain cells at all they would ride the nids wave properly to unleash the confrontation we all wanted. The nids suffer from the absolute worst writing. They have all the BS hacks like chaos. How can bone pierce something supposedly magnitudes harder than anything now?? They should be a overwhelming force like the xenomorphs. Anyways, Russ found his way out of the garden with the eldar god. Together they will bring back the great angel and magnus will be lured into a trap to seal the webway door forever. The big E will get off the throne just in time for the biggest threat in the ghoul stars. They could bring back everything and have a even better setting.
I'd find it entertaining if Russ came back a loyalist demon Primarch, twisted by the corruption of the warp, but still loyal. I mean...why not? It works for Celestine just fine.
Considering how he treated Lorgar I think Russ also did believe the Emperor was a God. He would see though what the Imperium is like now and will be very much against it, though this really depends on what is Russ's mindset. When he arrives people are guessing him either to be an Odin like figure using the Emperor's Spear/Spear of Russ, or a Warp evolved Primarch like Corvus looking more like a Beast of Frost and Fur. What would you want Really though when thinking about the next Loyalist Primarch back I think the most imporatant thing is to look at what the current plot is (the 4th Tyrannic War) and think 'Which Primarch would work best for this'? Now story can change and if it does it might go in the direction of Leman Russ but so far no Dorn or the Khan are the most likely.
I agree, against the Tyranids I would rather see Dorn or the Khan next. Heck, even Vulcan would be great. Russ should return last and be the herald for the end times. Russ and Valdor fates seem linked. We can only wonder at their purpose.

Which nobody asked for & is highly uneducated - is that Big E was already imprisoned upon The Golden Throne when Leman recieved this vision? So trazyn has clonegrim and a large humanoid in baroque power armor i believe this to be dorn in one theory another is during the 1st black cursade he was snatched by omegon and told the cabals prophecy wherebhe convinced dorn to become the king in yellow to fortify the emperors realm as he gains power getting ready for a war in the warp
The Imperium needs Dorn, not Russ. With the Lion’s return, they already have a military commander capable of taking the fight to Chaos, so Russ is less necessary from a “Save the Imperium” perspective. What the Imperium needs is someone who can begin to rebuild what has been lost, and that’s Dorn.

Although the idea of Russ coming back is exciting I don't think that he will be next. I foresee perhaps a Vulkan coming back next. To inject some humanity in the current situation. Just my humble opinion.
Russ is just as human as Vulkan. He understands what it means to be human, and retain human joys and traits. His warrior life might have skewed a lot of that toward battle, but he can laugh, hug, drink, sulk, and engage in sarcasm. Many of his brothers simply -can't- do those things, or won't do them. They try to behave like demigods, where Russ tries to temper what he is with what he protects- humans.

I think Russ has hypocrisy because he actually knows the truth about the warp. He is fully aware of the dangers, and as he knows his brothers did not, was dead set against them exploring it. He had to execute two brothers, potentially because of the warp. He would be very much against anything which might cause he to do the same to a third.

The question is why he's being a hypocrite. He can't be unaware of the fact that this is hypocrisy. So why would he be so vehemently opposed to his brothers using the warp when his own legion does? It would make sense if it's because he's aware of the dangers and the risk of his brothers falling due to their ignorance. He can't tell them about the Warp as his father obviously doesn't want it widely known, so what is he to do? He can only campaign for Psykers to be censured. His own awareness and lack of psychic power makes susceptible to corruption, and the space wolves already approach the warp and spirits with a healthy level of caution and suspicion compared to the thousand sons and others, who just see it as a cool power they can unleash.

I agree, i feel that realistically the return of Russ will see the inquisition, the High lords, anyone who is capitalizing on the worship of the emperor as a god being slaughtered. As much as im a space wolves guy with the way the lores going I think it will be corax then the khan mean while i think the salamanders will find the last 3 of vulkans artifacts ,this is when the the phalanx is reported to have left terra orbit , some time later it is spotted in the system of the golden lions home world along with the entire bloodline of dorn handing the inqisition there arses ,only after the inqisition is purged does vulcan appeer followed by russ several months later probably to turn the tide of some huge battle that would have been lost

Mm, I'd love to see Trazyn return the body of the Fulgrim Clone, and with some help from the Eldar, put Fulgrim's soul back into the body and see how he reacts to everything that's happened to him and his legion, the guilt and regret over realizing he could have stopped Horus before the Heresy even began, and of course, come to terms with having the blood of Ferrus Manus on his hands.
Seeing a redemption story of the one Traitor Primarch who never truly betrayed the Imperium willingly due to that Daemon possessed sword clouding his mind and later taking his soul, would just be DRIPPING with narrative potential.
I think they should bring Russ back by maybe having the Lion or Roboute finding some instructions for a device designed for the Golden Throne that eludes to being some kind of regenerative addon machine. When they inspect the area of n the golden throne that the said device is supposed to be connected, right above it there is an insignia of a wolf’s head. Enter Russ with the “tree of Life.” Obviously the story would be told by a professional but it’s just what I would like the premise to be to get the Wolf king to come back and make sense.
Wild theory. The "Emperors Executioner" has a double meaning. He will return and ironically fight alongside the Grey Knights to enact the Terminus Decree.

Perhaps this becomes the big dilemma as russ returns with the tree of life and then the primarchs are split on whether to kill the emperor to save him or to bring him back to life and perhaps both are the correct answer but would result in two very different emperors so what to do; kill or revive

Just like the Lion aged while he snoozed for 10,000 years, I hope Lion El'Jonson has partially succumbed to the Curse of the Wulfen when he returns, too animalistic to take much interest in the philosophical questions. The Eye of Terror caused Corvus Corax to transform and could do the same to Russ. And if he had partially been transformed, that would make the secret of his whereabouts that much tastier for Magnus. It would also mean his return would be good for the other Primarchs, but maybe deepen the division between the Primarchs, their Space Marines and the Inquisition.
This is the only scenario that works without having to write Russ out of being redundant.
This is a personal hope of mine, I hope that in the new lore that the rangda re emerge, after all they decimated the Dark angels and space wolf legions, and a different Xenos threat would be cool

Now you could make the point he needs one of his brothers to get him out of his Emo/warp funk, but he was the only non-comatose and known activity in the lore. The other 3 (4 if presuming Dorn is alive) we only know where they left to, not where they are.

Given recent events in the setting, my top two candidates for returning next are Leman Russ, who is my first choice, and Jaghatai Khan, whom I consider a possibility now because of the Webway getting more involved now.
Doesn't really surprise me Russ might take it better than Guillemine... As I recall Robute is minimally psychically sensitive, why would an administrator need it? Where as Russ came from a psychically active world.

The Lion is as impulsive and brash as it can get without being a detriment to the universe, and he had to go through an amnesiac's fever dream to get that way. Russ wasn't a good choice before the Heresy and he would be a worse one now as he would just cause another disaster like on Prospero.

Lion will probably ignore Bobby G and do what he thinks best but would be interesting to see how Russ reacts to Bobby. Would he accept his role as Lord Commander and essentially take some suggested directions or just go AWOL and do what he thinks best? The traitor primarchs are brought down by the fact they never cooperate and even hamper each other. Loyalists need to cooperate as that's their only edge.
Do you ever think that russ may come back as a giant self-controlled lycanthrope with immense power due to the curse. Or that maybe the reason he has yet to return is because he has fallen to the curse.

I’m willing to be big money Dorn is on his way back. If they had any brain cells at all they would ride the nids wave properly to unleash the confrontation we all wanted. The nids suffer from the absolute worst writing. They have all the BS hacks like chaos. How can bone pierce something supposedly magnitudes harder than anything now?? They should be a overwhelming force like the xenomorphs. Anyways, Russ found his way out of the garden with the eldar god. Together they will bring back the great angel and magnus will be lured into a trap to seal the webway door forever. The big E will get off the throne just in time for the biggest threat in the ghoul stars. They could bring back everything and have a even better setting.

Considering how he treated Lorgar I think Russ also did believe the Emperor was a God. He would see though what the Imperium is like now and will be very much against it, though this really depends on what is Russ's mindset.
When he arrives people are guessing him either to be an Odin like figure using the Emperor's Spear/Spear of Russ, or a Warp evolved Primarch like Corvus looking more like a Beast of Frost and Fur. What would you want
Really though when thinking about the next Loyalist Primarch back I think the most imporatant thing is to look at what the current plot is (the 4th Tyrannic War) and think 'Which Primarch would work best for this'? Now story can change and if it does it might go in the direction of Leman Russ but so far no Dorn or the Khan are the most likely.
I agree, against the Tyranids I would rather see Dorn or the Khan next. Heck, even Vulcan would be great. Russ should return last and be the herald for the end times. Russ and Valdor fates seem linked. We can only wonder at their purpose.

Which nobody asked for & is highly uneducated - is that Big E was already imprisoned upon The Golden Throne when Leman recieved this vision? Far be it from me to question The Emperor but here i go: what if that wasnt The Emperor warning his son? Instead of a mission sent forth from his father, a deciet formed from the Big 4 (screw off, belakor)? If i was a god of chaos, id want my enemies executioner outta the picture. How do you do that if you can neither kill him nor turn his loyalty? You send him away on a goose chase (or in this case, grocery shopping)

The Imperium needs Dorn, not Russ. With the Lion’s return, they already have a military commander capable of taking the fight to Chaos, so Russ is less necessary from a “Save the Imperium” perspective. What the Imperium needs is someone who can begin to rebuild what has been lost, and that’s Dorn.

Although the idea of Russ coming back is exciting I don't think that he will be next. I foresee perhaps a Vulkan coming back next. To inject some humanity in the current situation.
Just my humble opinion.
Russ is just as human as Vulkan. He understands what it means to be human, and retain human joys and traits. His warrior life might have skewed a lot of that toward battle, but he can laugh, hug, drink, sulk, and engage in sarcasm. Many of his brothers simply -can't- do those things, or won't do them. They try to behave like demigods, where Russ tries to temper what he is with what he protects- humans.

I think Russ has hypocrisy because he actually knows the truth about the warp. He is fully aware of the dangers, and as he knows his brothers did not, was dead set against them exploring it. He had to execute two brothers, potentially because of the warp. He would be very much against anything which might cause he to do the same to a third.

The question is why he's being a hypocrite. He can't be unaware of the fact that this is hypocrisy. So why would he be so vehemently opposed to his brothers using the warp when his own legion does? It would make sense if it's because he's aware of the dangers and the risk of his brothers falling due to their ignorance. He can't tell them about the Warp as his father obviously doesn't want it widely known, so what is he to do? He can only campaign for Psykers to be censured. His own awareness and lack of psychic power makes susceptible to corruption, and the space wolves already approach the warp and spirits with a healthy level of caution and suspicion compared to the thousand sons and others, who just see it as a cool power they can unleash.
I honestly see Russ coming back to destroy the Inquisition. GW has been vague about the foe. There is no love loss between the two factions. When the emperor tells him to protect the imperium. I think it's from the Inquisition.
I agree, i feel that realistically the return of Russ will see the inquisition, the High lords, anyone who is capitalizing on the worship of the emperor as a god being slaughtered. Russ way believe in the wird, fate, destiny but he believed in his fathers vision which included "i am not god stop trying to worship me, use your common sense!" there is a reason why the wolves are called the emperors executioners/ enforcers

As much as im a space wolves guy with the way the lores going I think it will be corax then the khan mean while i think the salamanders will find the last 3 of vulkans artifacts ,this is when the the phalanx is reported to have left terra orbit , some time later it is spotted in the system of the golden lions home world along with the entire bloodline of dorn handing the inqisition there arses ,only after the inqisition is purged does vulcan appeer followed by russ several months later probably to turn the tide of some huge battle that would have been lost
