Its funny. I see the beer and think to myself. what an awesome way to spend a day. Hanging out drinkin a few and findin some good eats while outdoors. cheers man.
Great vid Taku! We had a great time showing you around our neck of the woods! We look forward to our future adventures! Just saying, Martijn and I will never go vegan (born hunter-gatherers), but the mushrooms you made would be one heck of a meat substitute if we had to! Great cooking dude... and stoked to chill with you and Chensi... how about the quail he grilled on the coals! Good food, good friends, good fungi, good fun! Keep the old ways alive!
What a surprising shout out to another great channel Rice Farming TV, great to see the sushi rice gets some love too (not that those mushrooms didn't taste awesome I bet). Love the channel and your plate presentation always rocks.
yeeee Kevin said it! Good food, good friends, good fungi, good fun! Keep the old ways alive! And that was one of the best vegan food i ever had! i only get to eat one piece and then there is only piece left on the plate...Lol wish there was a bit more!! digging the music the vibe so chill and cool ~ content gets better and better!
Would love to see you start the channel with a teaser of the food you finished, then followed by starting the hunt of the mushroom, then end it with what mushrooms you got and then Kevin talking about cautious foraging mushroom, then end with the final eating of sushi n mushroom.
Would love to see more foraging videos coastal/inland! You really sparked my interest in it cuz I never really thought about how much stuff the bay area had to offer!
Heyo Taku. I love your channel and really appreciate the content you upload. I continually learn from you about ocean foraging, and have been waiting for you to do a mushroom video because I love to make mushroom nigiri! As a mushroom person I wanted to share a couple of things with you. A much more comprehensive identification guide for your area (and all of northern california coast) is Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast by Christian Schwarz. David arora is incredibly knowledgable (much more than I) and All That the Rain Promises is good as a field guide to take with you to the forest, but as far as comprehensive ID books for your area, Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast is hard to beat. Angel wing mushroom (Pleurocybella porrigens) is not an oyster mushroom. Oysters are in the genus Pleurotus, whereas angel wings are Pleurocybella. They do not share the same family either, oysters being Pleurotaceae and angels being Marasmiaceae. There is some interesting information on Pleurocybella poisonings in Japan that might interest you. They have caused a few deaths but all who died were already suffering from serious kidney issues. Its a good idea to really cook down the Honey mushrooms. They can cause a hefty case of gastrointestinal stress if not well cooked, and some people get an upset stomach from them regardless of cook time. Thank you for the inspiration!
Knife is life ..after binging a few videos I noticed you have a lot of different pocket knives. Can you recommend an affordable one for both coastal and plant foraging?
angel wing mushroom is considered poisonous after a mass poisoning event in Japan. That said it was considered edible up until the 2000s and in many NA guides.
Stay away from Wikipedia and similar sources... 1 or 2 events or outbreaks won't make something change definition, it just encourages further studies. If I recall the event you speak of, it was likely multiple factors and like many other edible foods, it just might not be suitable for people with preexisting conditions, such as organ instabilities. Some people die from eating nuts while others love them. We are all different and shouldn't jump to conclusions. Take on info with a pinch of skepticism.
Hey bro do you think you can do breakfast lunch and dinner episode, so we can see if I can survive off the land in North Cal lol, everyone should live that way. Thanks!
Hi Taku! I know I could learn this from a different video, but I'd like to learn the way you do it. Could you show us how you make your Sushi Vinegar in a future video?
Man what a great colab there's so much out there and way healthy too I've subbed all the channels gotta hit Kevin up for the book title to add to my collection hey can you recommend a book for seaside harvesting? Awesome video thanks Taku.
What book do you personally recommend for mushroom hunting? I’m a beginner who only knows one or two types of mushroom but would love to go hunting for some when the snow melts. I need a good field guide to tell me for certain what mushrooms are which
Taku, beautiful as always. Just starting to try to make sushi. If you had to buy the shrooms (like I would have to) what varieties would you suggest? Thanks, Connie
Impressive, the presentation was outstanding as usual. What is truffle salt? I know where truffles come from, and I know where salt comes from, but am having a hard time connecting the two. What kind of taste do you get from it? Keep up the variety in your episodes, you’re doing a great job! Thanks for sharing, Taku!
If it were me, I would only pick Deathcaps and Webcaps... :( Which means, I ain't foraging for no mushrooms..... You folks know what you are doing... Peace!
Hey man, i live on the western beach side of baja, do you think its possible to forage much here?, i know we have uni & tons of good mussels, but im wondering if there's more like seaweeds?
@@OutdoorChefLife thanks! Every long once in a while a barrel will float to our island covered in mussels, and since its floating they dont have sand in them, my buddies call it the mexican lottery😂
mix of adventure,cooking,and survival
Oh those angel wings are great, they like to grow on dead elm logs and after a rain, it was so nice to pick 'em off a dead log and fry 'em up.
I’m a simple man. I see Outdoor Chef Life upload, I click

Watching your
オイスターマッシュルームってヒラタケの仲間かな?
ヒラタケは美味いよね。
寿司を作りたいのはわかるけど、砂糖と醤油でヒラタケを煮て、それを入れて炊き込みご飯にするとすごい美味いよ。
I've heard that as a rule, there are no poisonous bracket-type fungi. Some might taste bad, but not dangerous.
