As far as I know he didn't want to be mad at them at first, when he came back he was only because the creators of "Eddsworld" were forced to end their cooperation with the voice actor Tord, who wanted his character removed from the cartoon after he left, so the creators had to come up with some way to get Tord out of the show, which is why I suspect they came up with the theme of betrayal, which means he didn't plan it initially, so he may have been surprised.
