Until watching your videos on repurposing thrifts and resales, I never realized the potential for myself. Now I’m tempted to go thrift shopping and find a make that ‘doesn’t quite work for me’ and flip it. Love all of your creativity and encouragement!
Lovely result! Great idea to preserve the collar. Definitely agree with the decision to replace the buttons. You wonder what they were thinking when they put a rectangle button on a polka dot.
I love this flip! I have always loved your attention to detail. In the words of my high school sewing teacher (50 years ago, now - wow) " Home sewn garments should always look and be more professionally made, than ready to wear." Somehow that has stayed with me. Have a nice week, Karina. 🧵🪡
I love these types of tutorials Karina . As the economy is crumbling and good material is expensive and material shops closing this is a good idea to repurpose . Nothing new under the Sun as people were doing this when I was a kid in the fifties . Lovely make .
This refashion really turned out great and it looks good on you. I love the Melody Dolman and am getting ready to make myself another one. I tried your shortcut facing method on my first one and I am hooked. I will always use that method now. I have a pattern by Gertie for a cute vintage blouse that I've made several times but I always hated the way the color facing turned out. I used your facing method on that one too and Oh my gosh it was a total game changer. Thank you so much for that hack. Anyway, I love your refashion videos. I can't get enough.
You hit a home run again. I was wondering though, if you have a solution to the "winged" look of the cuff. All the makes that I've been watching of dolman sleeves with cuffs all wing out and up. No one seems to have a solution. Without an added seam in the middle of the cuff to angle it, or to fold the cuff. All the Melody dolmans you've made, have you ever cut the cuff on a bias a little shorter? Wonder if that might help? Think I'll give that a try, see what happens. Great video
I love the melody dolman but I have sloping shoulders On a set in sleeve I remove 3/8 inch from shoulder tip and taper to neck and then remove same amount from under arm but not sure how to do this on a dolman. Thank you for all your advice. I have learned so much from your channel
You’ve been doing a lot of thrift flips lately. I’m really enjoying watching how your brain ticks over, you come up with some fantastic designs! I don’t know how long your belt was but if there was enough of it, you could possibly have made a ‘hem cuff’ like your dolman cuff to give it an extra few centimetres. Being a bit of a stork as well, sometimes we have to get creative to get a bit of extra length after the fact. 🤭 That was such a pretty fabric, polka dots are always good!
I didn’t have much of the belt left to do anything with. I’m fine with the length without the belt and would not add anything to it. I just won’t belt this one :)
The transformation is beautiful, well done Katrina, I love watching your videos, they are so inspirational, can I ask you a question is it difficult to make the dolman with long sleeves ❤
You cant really just make the dolman sleeve longer as it would not allow movement, but you can create a separate extension. I’ve done it in this video with a knit but I’d do the same steps with a woven ua-cam.com/video/do0NEmUeAWQ/v-deo.html
Love these refashion videos, I also refashion things that I find in thrift stores. I have a hard time finding such beautiful garments, though. It looks great on you. Thanks for all your hard work.
Yeah! I was able to buy the part through your link. I also watched the sleeve addition video yesterday. So now I’m armed (pun intended) with all I need to make the melody dolman. Would quilting cotton be okay with this pattern.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles I just love that pok-a-dot fabric as well as the Melody refashion you made to the dress, Karina. Question for you-I have a similar rectangle shape dress I want to flip but it has side seam pockets. What do you suggest? Un-pick them and sew them into the new side seam or just sew them shut?

Love it Karina. Thanks for sharing how to reshape, resize and make a thrifted dress into a lovely style which suits you.
I really like this dress, and the color of the fabric with the polka dots makes it look extra special.
Great tutorial Karina, you always nail the reconstruction of a garment. I love polka dot fabric. Well done! Have a lovely weekend! 💐

I’ve been doing this since I started sewing. It was a great way to source “fabric”.
I'm guilty of your #1 pet pev. Sorry I know better now. 😊 Will have to learn your way. You are so talented love your sewing.
A great flip Katrina and I love the polka dot, you are always an inspiration and these days I walk through the thrift shops with new eyes.❤

It’s just so nice this way right? Stress free :)

Great video
The bias cuff has no wings, the pointy out bit would be worst if I didn’t shape the cuff under the arm though.

I’ve been prepping for a dolman fitting video that will cover things like sloping shoulders. Watch out for it :)

Yep. Quilting cotton is perfectly suitable :)

Like the dolman sleeves, can guys use the dolman sleeves in their shirts?
I've never seen them in ready to wear. I think its more of a feminine thing.
Hi! Great flip. I like your tennis shoes. Could you link them? Thanks!
I live in Brazil, so I can’t link my shoes 🤓
