I live next to an airforce base outside Stl and there are a lot of Filipinos that end up here because of the base. You are right on I have a lot of Filipino friends and when we were teens my friends family would throw parties and after there was so much leftover over food his mom would say "Vincente call your friends to eat this!" And we come running for ribs rice and lumpia!
So my immidiate family isnt filipino but my brother in law is. Ill never forger the first time my sister invited me over i was super nervous but as soon as i got there it was all love and non stop food. Like my brother in laws mom literally follows me around with plates of food and its awesome.

I remember spilling uncooked rice because I carelessly poured them into the pot. There was no hanger, belt or flip-flops involved. I was asked to pick the grains one by one, making sure each grain was free of dirt,, while reflecting how much the rice farmers' back hurt planting - harvesting rice. If my future kids disrespect rice the way this guy did, I'll do the same thing.
