i relate to not being able to socialise with big groups. i get so self-conscious about when to enter the conversation, what to say to make people laugh, etc it's so stressful. one-on-ones are so much easier and less intimidating

Same here. It frustrates me sometimes but when I do force the socialization I feel kind of foolish afterwards like I either sounded dumb or I didn't act a certain way.

something i find myself doing when i try to make new friends is over share EVERYTHING. and i told my therapist about that and she said that you’re not the only one responsible keeping the conversation. if there is a awkward silence, try letting the other person say something first instead because it’s not only your responsibility to keep the conversation going :) you don’t need to overshare to have a good conversation with with someone

I'm in university and I find I have a lot of those moments that feel odd and empty, just like you do; especially so because of online classes making it next to impossible to make friends. But I find watching vlogs like yours helps me fill those odd, empty moments with peace, thank you for that. : )

I’m a pro over sharer, I get to know someone new and get attached and tell them the most personal things and details, I feel comfortable around those types of people who also feel that way too ❤️ the people who don’t feel that comfortable over sharing or just listening or getting to know someone like me / us, make me feel so much more introverted by the end of the day and it’s like “well I’m never socialising ever again” followed by not talking in social situations and it being a little hard to open up to someone else

At this point this topic of feeling social anxiety hit me hard. Not only because it’s true but because I understand you. I hate myself and I hate how I’m always trying to do better for myself but I never accomplish anything. I tell myself that I will improve on talking to others more but I tend to not say anything as if my mind got blocked lol. I don’t like that when I try to talk to people they never put effort into adding more onto the conversation; it always ends being an awkward moment for us. It makes me feel like I’m the one who should lead the conversations but in reality we all have to put our part in them. I shouldn’t be the one to overshare and take over the conversation because the only thing I do is stay silent. I usually have nothing to say which is something I dislike about myself. My life feels so boring to me that I don’t feel like telling people about it. Anyways sorry for the rant lol

I can totally relate with you and find it so relieving that you are talking about it. thank you !! Social anxiety drives me mad like real and it is so exhausting for me , i literally go into a corner or talk to 1 person, at leat I try to. In subways I always think everyone is starring at me or get highly intimidated when someone sits right in front of me. Or when I hear other people laughing I keep thinking 'oh they're taking about me' it's a process but with time it can hopefully get easier 🌃🙋‍♀️✨🌺

I have some tips for the classics! First of all, there is no shame in looking at the wikis! I do that to look at themes in the book, which helps me better understand the meaning the author is trying to convey. Another thing for specifically Jane Austen books is that they’re comedies and often have the same energy as The Office (this applies mostly to Emma)

I can relate so much to not being able to socialize with bigger groups. My strong points are talking to smaller groups of people or just with one person. I always feel like I lose a bit of myself when interacting with bigger groups, cause its hard for me to fully express who i am. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Thank you for sharing this with us, I really thought it was just me.

0:20 I'd just like to say that this is SO true with social events organized by college/teen/whatever. Being the first one because you're early or on time kinda sucks and has taught me to be late. But doing this has also made it SO hard for me to practice showing up on time for other things. Example: concerts, business meetings, FUNerals. It's just ruff out here

I feel like classics take some time to get used to. when you jump from a modern book to such an old book it necessitates kind of a culture shift so if you want to read one just go ahead and read it slower. Sometimes it isn't important to understand every single word that comes out of someone's mouth as long as you get the gist of it :) (i remember reading withering heights after a long break of not reading classics and i was so bored and i couldn't understand so much but the emotional parts were still so amazing :) ) they're usually remembered for a reason so keep trying!!

Your copy of Little Women is beautiful btw, and, as a book, it's really good (I mean, Timothee being in the movie makes the story like 200000x better obviously) Anyway, I think you'll be able to understand it pretty well. It's one of the easier classics I've read. Definitely the most enjoyable! It's got such a nostalgic tone to it, kinda like your videos. They both make me wanna live a life of purpose aha. I have been seeing those Rowling books on your shelves for years lol, so I knew in a sense that you were a reader, but now, as I'm finishing your older videos and finding my way through your recent ones (which is such a sad process btw, I am mourning your childhood for you, praising your vulnerability throughout it all in a span of days) but I'm finding that you are reading a lot more now. I love how reading can help us cope, and I know on a personal level how truly it does. Reading keeps us from loneliness, from sadness, allows us to feel someone else's, to be in another life, and walk in another's shoes. It is cool to think you're finding that; I hope you enjoy the book and what it can bring you, where it might.

For Crying in H-Mart, I didn't expect to cry either because I didn't expect to relate super strongly to Michelle (I'm a white woman), but I ended up crying around 3/4 of the way through it. I ended up relating strongly to her fear around losing her mom and her grief--losing my mom while I'm young is one of my biggest fears/worries.

For me, being one on one with someone is way scarier, because the silences fall more often. Being in a big group means I can be silent and just listen to the conversation that's going on. Then again, being in a group but not participating isn't really socialising i guess..
