    7:42 _"On a long enough timeline if you look to the Xg ... it'll sort out the table"_

    • @galazore
      @galazore Місяць тому +2

      That proves precisely that it doesn't sort out the table. And the table is finite, and the season is not very long. You could effectively pull a stat polling 5 seasons, two of which there were zero wins, and both vastly overestimate and underestimate what those seasons look like. There is no prize for topping the "5 year table". It's a red herring of a stat. No better, or more accurate than looking at the league, and putting teams in places just by the eye test. We have proven that on both sides of the spectrum over the past three seasons.

    It's really simple. Just keep playing the same squad/ selection rotation players and let them keep improving. Like 5-6 games in, actual good football is being played. Let them keep getting in rhythm and it'll come. There's no magical fix other than them getting more games in

    As fans, we cant keep swinging from “we’re back” after a couple of wins, to “manager out” after a mediocre performance. Same applies to the players; one good or bad game is not enough to form any kind of analysis, especially at the beginning of the season when those players are still adjusting to a new team/country/language. Winning is the ultimate measuring stick for United. I feel we're trying to show confidence but with too many flicks, tricks and a back heels. A much more simple pass would be the better option. In saying that, the simple things are the hardest things to do in football. I thought we were poor yesterday but a toe poke simple goal and a few dirty 1-0 wins and this team "could" get going. I'd be very careful not to talk down the performances this season. You're 100% right that UTD are not converting chances - but I'd argue that the team should be creating more. We are yet to see an "Opportunity to create goalscoring chances" statistic but it needs to come because it would be very useful. Last night UTD squandered "chances to make chances", though, it might be said, nothing like the amount Man City squandered v. AFC. UTD seem to me to have a signif higher "CTMC" number this season. Now: this is an excellent sign. And, obviously, is the fact that the team is creating more chances this season. In my judgment, the goals will increase, all other positives being equal. To simplify, the goals will come.
    More might have been made of the defensive side of the UTD game this season. Last night they conceded just 7 shots, Do you know what last season's average per game is? I don't. But it was much higher than 7, no?
    I've said many times that football fans are an effin' dim lot, where even folk with A levels and degrees fail to think straight (rationally) on a daily basis when it comes to the game. So please highlight the stratospheric boneheaded of any of them saying TH should be sacked. I'd councel SP to self-ban all chat about "TH under pressure" unless he goes 6 w/o a win or something.

  • @Jimbo_9
    @Jimbo_9 Місяць тому +21

    That goal was ridiculously soft, Rashford had a chance to chop the full back down and just brushes off him, too soft, then Eriksen the same too soft, Martinez smartly pulls out as he's already on a yellow so right decision, leading to Maguire falling on his ass attempting some nonsense he's absolute pants (also still takes too many touches), then Ugarte steps in and makes a perfectly timed tackle. After that just a brainfart from Eriksen, but the ball should never have travelled that far in first place. Team needs to learn how to be more cynical and take yellow cards, pull of a shirt, bear hug, clip an ankle. Way too passive.

    I think we are lacking a bit of ruthlessness and a bit of decisiveness. It seems like our players don’t have any conviction in their final pass/shot. Our build up play is fantastic but our final balls are lacking or like several times in the game our wingers put in great balls into the box but there was no one there to attack the ball. Rashford had a cross like that, Ahmad had one where two people in the box missed it, Garnacho I think had another chance like that.

    The speed of Utd’s play and the predictable straight line movement has been a problem for several years. Maguire slowing down the play is also a problem. He never receives a ball and quickly moves it on. He has to receive it, take a touch, then get his head up to see what he is going to do with it. He never has a picture in his head before he receives it. Not good enough. Hojlund needs games, even if it’s reserve games just to get some momentum. I love Licha’s blood and thunder approach, but he is pushing too far out of defence and leaving holes. For all Fred’s short comings, we miss his energy in the midfield. I don’t expect to win the league, but we need to see tangible progress, more points on the board. Improved XG will count for nothing come the end of the season if Utd can’t put the ball in the onion bag.

A mid table team, a top 4 team, a title challenging team? I'm genuinely intrigued because cleary what you guys & I consider good football, are 2 different things. F#£k your metrics

      These "sack the manager" merchants carry this delusion with them that they are setting standards. Destabilize the club and feel like you've done something of value. Absolute Rhinos when it comes to being far sighted. Who needs rivals when you have these nincompoops trying to "set the standards". EtH will only be sacked when he loses the dressing room. And he's nowhere near that. He will be given time, and he will give it everything. Don't think I can expect the same of Nagelsmann or Inzaghi or Zidane. The names are big, but they might get exposed. United job ain't for everyone. EtH is the man for the job. Humble, not rattled, doesn't hide, doesn't let his players hide. Rashford against Twente was playing smart. And he will get better. So will the rest of the team. 2025 summer will change the narrative altogether, when Maguire, Lindelof, Evans and Eriksen all leave on a free and we bring in better suited replacements and a LB. People forget we are still a work in progress.

    Rashford played well, but he WILL NOT SCORE many so long as Dalot is playing at LB and inverting. 😕
    Dalot inverting makes the centre crowded, forces Rashford to hold the width on the left, and means defenders can more easily double-up on him when he does get the ball. 😩
    Amad is our creative winger.
    Zirkzee is a supporting striker.
    Rashford SHOULD be the main goal threat, but that is impossible when the lineup and tactical setup force him to hug the touchline. 🤷
    If Ten Hag wants goals, he needs to ensure that Rashford operates in the left-half space, not on the wide-left.

    When Klopp came to Liverpool they didnt do that well in the table, even worse than with Rogers. But the improvements and the development of a style was very obvious to see. It instilled confidence and motivation in players and fans. Under Ten Hag that was only obvious in the 1st season. After that it seemed to be a roller coaster. What does seem to be happening is a lack of a winning mentality and desire in a lot of critical players.
    Maybe Ten Hag lacks charisma and man management skills. Even when talking to the media you can see charisma and people handling skills from SAF, Klopp, Ancelloti, Mourinho, Pep. But in ETH it seems more like defensiveness, whingeing, excusing and a lack of ability to banter or just instil confidence or positivity. Maybe that is why he had problems with Sancho (given what a brat he is), Rashford, CR7. Right now the only high gear motivation appears to be from Garnacho, Amad, Mazraoui (still new though), Martinez (Though more aggresive than motivated).
    ON the flip side Solksjaer kept players happy but was not a good tactician. So hope fully Ste's observations here above are correct
