Artificial Intelligence: An imminent threat to the human race and its ultimate extinction?

Geoffrey Everest Hinton CC FRS is a British-Canadian cognitive psychologist and computer scientist, most noted for his work on artificial neural networks. He resigned from his senior position at Google a few days ago in order to be able to "freely speak out about the risks of A.I". He has voiced concerns about deliberate misuse by malicious actors, technological unemployment, and existential risk from artificial general intelligence.
The Spectator's guest here is Toby Ord, senior research fellow at the University of Oxford's Future of Humanity Institute, where his work is focused on existential risk. His book on the subject The Precipice: Existential Risk and the Future of Humanity was published in March 2020.
