The problem in the big classics and the TDF there there is 2-3 guys that are just as strong or stronger in every disciplin. Sprint - phillipsen, Girmay, Rolleur/ big engines MVDP and actually pogacar too. Van aert is very strong in many disciplines but not the strongest in any, that is his problem. 2 years ago he was the strongest.
@@ЛентяйЁпта Wout only wins climbs when he's given big time in a breakaway. Lets not pretend he doesn't drop early on proper nasty climbs if he's in the GC group. His gift isn't that he can win climbs, it's that he can survive them with people who don't have his sprint.
@@ЛентяйЁпта WVA is a generational classics specialist because he's a Belgian but in another life, he would just be a rich man's Tom Dumoulin. Too big to win a GC and too gifted to look average on the bike. As I've said in my interest, weight lifting. We could take as many PEDs as we like, we are still losing to these freaks of nature but it's even more feasible in cycling to gain all the same advantages via other means such as altitude training to achieve these performances.
He was so much stronger then then the rest, he played with them, got a gap while going for the points and executed it well. The french rider was only there because Wout allowed it.
the sticky bottle even made Soler come back to nearly a bike length but then decides to not stay with the group after he just, unsportsmanlike in my mind, closed a fairly substantial gap with no effort required. This is as much on Soler as on the team car driver.
Everyone on a team has a role, but those roles change stage to stage. For example, during the TDF, WVA was often on domestique duty, grabbing bottles and ice bags from the car and bringing them to Vingegaard. Other riders like Campanaerts will choose stages that they want to target and chill for the other ones, so he’ll “rest” in the peloton.
I am wondering the same thing since stage one. Everything looks super over-exposed. Are there no professionals taking care of the cameras at the Vuelta?
At 4:24 when the UAE car has to drop back this is because the Alpecin rider put his hand up for feeding and so the Alpecin car can than be the only car in front of com 1. Than bc the UAE rider maybe missed he had to than drop back to his car in the caravan bc it was not his time to feed at the front. What the UAE rider should’ve done was wait 30 seconds until the Alpecin car moved back and thus he would’ve fed from the front of the caravan. The UAE rider will definitely get a stern talking to by the DS during the evening.
Err his name is Marc Soler he did not win Paris Nice and multiple vuelta stages to be called UAE rider. Surprised the DS in the car didn't spot it. When their racing in 35-40 degrees c then getting a drink is crucial, another 30s and he would Wout would have already attacked and the chance to get a drink when chasing would be difficult.
@@cornishalps9870 This stage was in the north of Spain, not in the south anymore, and temperatures were much more comfortable. Drinking (and eating) regularly is still important though.
@@cornishalps9870 I will call Soler UAE rider because in the caravan it’s the team name and technically just number that matter. On the UAE DS not spotting his rider, the UAE car probably wasn’t supposed to be where it was so it would’ve been an illegal feed anyway
Why are so few break formations filmed? Can be so influential for the whole day, informative of team tactics and surely the easiest thing for the director, 2 cameras on the road capture everything
People will still ride with WvA as you're never sure until the last climb that the break will survive. No better rider than WvA to keep the break in front, but almost no worse rider to beat at the line in a break.
Why would Quentin pull at all after making the split? Once the climb starts and they have 25sec on the rest, he should have sat up and wait till the end of the climb to make his move. The last part of the climb is much flatter and exposed to the wind. Wva would be making a much bigger effort in that last part of the climb and that was his only chance

I watched the full race. Is it ok for riders to get pulled along by a car when handing a bottle? Soler got loads of free pulls on the climbs to get him back to the breakaway. It feels like cheating.
Visma RentaBike are hedging their bets on WVA this year. Stepp Küss, who was effectively allowed to win by team-mates Vindegaard and Roglič in last year's Vuelta, is going to be key in helping WVA to achieve the GC victory. Still a long way to go, but WVA is looking impressive against the other contenders. Can he keep it going? Will he manage the higher mountain stages to put time into his rivals? Roglič, can he come back to win La Vuelta? He's showed signs of strength and weakness so far, but still wouldn't write him off. Marc Soler, what is that dude about? Is he ever going to grab a stage by the horns and win one? He seems to have good attributes to win something, but it's as if he doesn't believe in himself or he's always got something to complain about. He seems best sacrificing himself for others maybe. That sticky bottle cheat though, what a plonker!

@@jesusredondo513 I am a die hard van Aert fan but compared to sprints-only people like Philipsen he is probably not as quick. But he can climb way better and get in a breakaway after multiple efforts which usual sprinters can't. Just look at Groves, he was still in contact after the flat stages and now he's nowhere.
It's great to see that Wout is finally back to his regular form. I think that he'll win at least one more stage in this Vuelta.

Soler was asleep. Good timing by Wout, he knew Soler was chilling before his likely attack on the last climb.
I'm not sure why the last climb was classified as a Cat 1. It had just one steep section of 1 km at 9.4%, the rest were fairly gentle.
2:06 was that De Marchi? He will rue missing that chance he spent a good 10 - 15 km full gas in no mans land.
