this band has consistently evolved since the beginning, but yet they still show the ability to stick to their original roots. what an incredible opener to this album.. been highly anticipating this release. I hope equal vision promotes the shit out of it. these guys deserve to explode!
I've felt lost my entire life. I still do. This song is everything I needed right now. Just goes to show how similar our human experiences actually are. We're taught to believe all this divisive shit, but really we're more alike than ever...we're all just looking for our place. Brilliant song, guys. Thank you for this
Thank you for carrying your torch brightly. I have seen so many bands go too crazy and change instead of evolve. This is a newer sound to something like Satori but refined in a way that isn't alienating. Its rare when a band can keep blazing into new territory without losing their identity that made me fall in love with them in the first place. Keep it up guys.
I literally can’t stop listening to this one. Absolutely breathtaking lyricism, feeling, and musicianship. I the Mighty you have outdone yourself with this album. Thank you
Just looked at lyrics to find the last line is "I think I found my place." My ears hear what they will but, "I think I felt my heart break." is what I hear.
Josiah Lutcher You’re still on repeat in my heart 😩 Thanks for sending me this though ;) it’s a very good song that’ll fit nicely in my playlists! The graphic in the background is cool too :P I should probably just message you but I enjoy the idea of finding you in the comments by accident and responding here 🤠
Thank God for these free streams! Those little minute and a half clips on iTunes arent enough for me to decide if I should buy the album at all, so I'm thankful record companies upload full albums for free sampling.
Excuse me for being stupid while saying this, but I really wish I knew the people this song was written for. who it's about or dedicated to, I mean. Because I get the exact feeling I used to have whenever I stayed at my friends' place. The first verse got me into this overwhelming feeling of nostalgia in particular :)
"Track One: Degenerates Back at home in the San Francisco Bay Area, I know a pretty incredible group of people whom I classify as “my best friends.” We’re essentially new age hippies; professional individuals with high aspirations, that also know how to have a good time. During those good times, we tend to lovingly refer to our outfit as “The Degenerates.” This song drew inspiration from a trip we took to a cabin to ring in the 2017 new year. The song encompasses the overwhelming feeling of gratitude I had for my life and the people in it that weekend, and the emptiness I felt when I was in solitude upon my return. It led to the realization that, when you TRULY feel something, it can create a void in it’s absence. I’ve found that life tends to try to balance itself. Without the lows you don’t truly feel the highs, and the reverse is just as true. All in all, this song is about finding your place."
Hmm. Never really considered my an I the mighty fan. This new album might change that. I'll be seeing them soon with hail the sun. I might have to pick up some merch.
Nah "We Speak" was their unofficial first album. It wasn't on Equal Vision, and I'm not sure if it was ever officially released, but it's on UA-cam. They never talk about it, or play anything from it, though.
I hear you. Only just found this band. Saw the outcome after listening to 2 albums and really liking them. Like, damn dude, you had something amazing, and surely a good looking guy with a ton of musical talent must have had plenty of *conscious* people throwing themselves at him??? Some people are just self destructive.
These lyrics are pretty sour in retrospect of what happened. I only just found the band, listened to 2 albums and loved them before hearing why they were on hiatus. It's a weird thing, to think that since the band broke up there's no reason *not* to listen to them, it's not like it's contributing to any ongoing harm, but... Do I *want* to try to ignore the background? Eugh. I guess if nothing else it's a good reminder that when someone says 'I am not a perfect man I fuck up often' there's always a chance that they aren't talking about petty arguments or difficult choices, they might just be a scumbag. "We are all degenerates"? Not many of us did *that*, dude.
"I am not a perfect man i fuck up often" gives me chills everytime
"But how I hate to get caught in pointless thought...self-pity gets me nowhere." No chills just hits hard.. really hard.
I miss them so bad
I keep repeating this album on my playlist every now and then.
That girl has no idea what she robbed ppl of.
This is legit one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Always loved the clean, pop-y vocals over solid drums and guitar. Takes a few listens to appreciate the intricacies of the music.

Anyone else annoyed, that the walking guy dont reach the other side of the screen?
I guess you can say that's "where the mind wants to go but this is where you let it go"

Sucks the lead singer is a legit “degenerate” and this band is prob done now. Sigh
Hey, that's bad rep for us degenerates. He's not a degenerate just a scumbag. :')
