One of my favourite games of all time, and one deep rooted in my childhood. Thank you this. It explained some plot points i didn't get in the 6 years since i played it. Bravo!
I really dislike how Legna is Angel backwards. Call it personal preference, but with the other games, it's pretty clear that Yoko Taro didn't mess around when it came to religious references. Angela? Gabriel? His other dragons were SUPER blatant since there's not really any point in beating around the bush about it. Legna just feels like some forced BS where someone thought they were REALLY clever and getting away with something but it's just super obvious to everyone that they're just doing a thing without actually owning up to it. But at least Legna actually sounds cool. Unlike Sonichu's character named after Christian named "Naitsirhc".... Fuck, that was horrible....
I really enjoyed this game, especially since i never got half way through it until my Lets play of the game, so the other half where it gets quite interesting was all more satisfying. IMO i think i like the story for Drakengard 1 more but i like the gameplay and combat in Drakengard 2 more. Great analysis, can't wait for Part 2!
Green Sonic hmm... kind of a tough call... D1 story was very cool and dark, D2 story was a cool adventure with a few twists and D3 story focused a lot on comedy with a very weird cast of characters. So... you can see the transition from each game, but i think i would rank D1 (1st) D2 (2nd) D3 (3rd) for different reasons but sometimes D2 and D3 would swap. differs from day to day
I feel like it's SUPER obvious at points what was written by Yoko Taro and what was made by other people because a lot of the game is really weirdly generic fantasy/anime stuff, but then as you go on there's just these super different parts where stuff just goes nuts or where people go through the worst BS in line with the stuff we see in Neir and the other Drakengard games. So I feel like that might be why the game comes more together as it goes on, honestly.
I recomment playing Drakengard 3. It's a terribly flawed vanity project and you'll noticed this inmediately by the use of the good animation crew for the opening, but with screentearing out the wazoo. However! It doesn't shy back from dark or sexual subjects like drakengard 2. Which make it feel like the twisted world we know and love. It made me feel as if i was playing realy good fanfiction made by someone who likes the series for the right reasons. It fits as a prequel and i liked it.
I’d love to see how Taro would approach this series (so many years later). Maybe Nier Replicant [square root of 1.5] will revitalize interest in the pre-spinoff
From your intro it seems like you're not too terribly keen on this game, but as it is my favorite game of all time, I really appreciate that you've kept your review very unbiased and on point so far, stating events as what they are and not how they compare to the previous game like 99% of the Drakengard fanbase does. Thank you for your integrity, and in the meantime I'll be bracing myself for part 2.
Oh no, I love most things, but just get creeped out by Manah's watcher voice. Thanks for the feedback though, I do my best to keep things unbiased and informative.
Mate... got a time machine so I can go back in time five years and apply my current editing knowledge? Did you know that your videos need a cinematographer, colour correctionist, a decent microphone and an editor too? I can freelance :) My rates are reasonable.
I'm new to your channel, but already love these videos. However, I would like to note Hanch didn't lose pride as part of her pact, but rather lost her charm. Thus people find themselves repulsed by her very presence.
@@loneronin6813 I did too. Her death scene was rather heartbreaking. The only reason I even pointed it out is because she even says herself people used to like her and now everyone just avoided her. I mean, that’s just terrible when you really think about it.
Svetlana Sygiainen Nier managed to make a great world. We know the writer truly wants to make his caracters diffrent. I feel he may have gone a bit far in drakengard 3. While the caracters in drakengard 1 seemd to make at least a bit of sense. A person who looses her kids goes mad. We can see that as possible, and can connect to it. While the "finding the plot" part of drakengard 3 may make a bit more sense of everything. But from what I have seen of drakengard 3, the caracters are very diffrent, but they do not make sense or fit too well. I find it a bit hard to connect to any of them. While I didn't like drakengard 2, mostly for... T.T Story events. How dare they hurt the hero, the legend, the terrorist. :p I do love every game in the drakengard universe. But yea, due to the caracters and the plot. Despite in many ways being flawed. Its the best game in the serie. And my favorit game. (>.> If I had actualy played Nier tho, drakengard may have had to share first place. Such a nice game....and that music.)
I'm really glad you went with "it's a different game" approach. It's a great game on it's own rights but not a fitting Drakengard game, kinda like shadow hearts 3 is to the other ones.
+Nikodem R No shit. >.> I just wanted to play drakengard again, for my original copy died after having been played for abour 1500 hours. Overpriced I got 2 copies.
Caim Pact this is why I softmodded my PS2. Even tho I still like to have legit copies of games I refuse to pay more than 40 euro for a 15 year old piece of scratched plastic that may or may not work or sometimes even may or may not be of my region. + playing games off of hard drive is super nifty (there are only like 5 games that break when you do that: tales of the abyss, Way of the Samurai 1, Shadow hearts 2 and 3 (only at like 1 or 2 points) and something else...
Green Sonic This. I have a capture device for the PS3 on my amazon wishlist, so hopefully I'll be getting it for Christmas, or if not, I'll buy it sometime next year. I've a lot of PS3 games I want to do.
This game has an incredible soundtrack. The tone is different from the 1st one but I really like how they make it a true sequel by incorporating characters from part one and making them main characters. I love this series and many people hate on this game but I like it, the gameplay is better than part 1 for sure. Can't wait til the next video, I have a lot of theories concerning Nohe's parents as well as legna's true identity.
No they don't there is just an ambiguous comment that Legna makes at the end.He saw the same look in the eyes of a loving couple who bore a tragic fate, 18 years ago and he comments to Nowe 'You are a sentimental fool, just like your father'. I'll get further into it when part 2 is done.
balbanes1 Nowe is the amalgamation of Inuart and Furiae after the two entered a Seed of Resurrection (while ending A of Drakengard 1 was happening). Because Inuart had a pact with the black dragon, part of the dragon's power entered Nowe and that's why he can transform into the New Breed. So technically he doesn't really have 'parents' as he wasn't born normally. Again, similar to Christian savior mythology.
4:49 HOLD THESE HORSES! Nowe is an Arabian name?! IT"S NOT! i have learned and lived in arabian countries for many years! Nowe is not arabian name at all! in fact the arabian name that INDEED sounds like his name is "Noweer" which literally translates to "the little light/the one with most knowledge [because knowledge is refereed to as light where darkness is referring the ignorance]" and that's it! it's not "born of light" btw who is Oro exactly anyway? btw the water guardian paid her "beauty" for the pact not her pride. according to the lore and indeed the precious light guardian is INDEED one of the HARDEST fights in the game he is almost impossible to defeat! Sir if you do make a finding the plot for drakengard 3 like this and like what you did with drakengard 1 video i'll consider to sub
Interesting, I went by what research I could find, but I have found in the past that non-germanic (or romanic, I forget which) languages do have a hard time translating directly to the sounds of English which can lead to a discrepancy in names and sounds. I try not to read lore around a game, when I can, because I take the games as they are. I prefer to take a game at face value because the majority of gamers whill see a game and none of the associated media. Retcons and expanded universes are great for the dedicated fan, but they may not always reflect the intention at the time of production. All my analyses, unless otherwise noted are based solely on what the average player who plays the game will see.

+RPGNoZero At least one feels like the drakengard 1 and 3 bosses are somwhat fair. Its you who can't keep up. (At least form what I could tell) But that gnome battle. -.- That always felt unfair. Eww! Caim's merry little band of insane mass murderers and pedophiles was replaced with... THIS!?
Also, thanks for helping to keep people interested in the series with your videos. Every interested viewer helps to get drakengard 4 made.

I'm so happy you've done this :) I seriously love this game 😍
Nice! I really hope you're gonna do Drakengard 3 as well!
Thanks for this, Sebastian.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
This video needed a lot more editing.

I must admit that in some ways I always felt bad for Haunch. (I likely spelled her name horribly wrong, sorry about that.)

hanch's pact-price wasn't her pride. her pact-price was her charm.
I can't believe that in all these years i haven't noticed that Legna spelled Angel. And here i was also thinking "What a weeeirddd name"
+Svetlana Sygiainen No worries! It's really lame, but LOL reverse angel? Angelus? Eh? Ehhh? Ah...well..
Lool, subtle!
+Svetlana Sygiainen I love drakengard. Learning small pieces of lore now and then, even now. How many years after I first played it? 10+?
Caim Pact Same! For me the first is still the very best.

You know, each game takes place in separate timelines.
Gah, this reminded me what bullshit Yaha's fight is.
you MUST play drakengard 3. its story is far more in line with drakengard 1 in terms of narrative methods.
He won for now because
A) He can't record PS3 footage.
B) He hasn't played the game.

Wait, isn't Nier the next game in the series?
FF18Cloud
He already did Neir.
Holy fuck caim turned into guts te black swordsman
I believe Yoko Taro stated that he's inspired by Guts.
And the dragon was based on rai from evenolion
