No KISS song is all that difficult, with rare exception, but it’s difficult to get Ace’s feel down. I think the real appeal of KISS for a guitarist is that they’re simply fun songs to play.
Ace's "feel" is a equal parts a pinch of slop, and playing behind the beat. At least earlier on. Imagine it being beamed in from Jendell, and you'll get his "feel" down a lot better. On record, as KISS got "bigger," the producers tended to put him closer to "on the beat," though he's still slightly behind. This is moreso the case with Kramer than with Ezrin or Poncia. Ezrin and Poncia put him near the beat, while Kramer let him be a little off as he typically was.
Why is there this mentality that songs have to be hard to play to be good?

Kiss might be the best pure rock n roll band of all time when you factor in longevity, hits, deep cuts and styles they’ve explored. Just a phenomenal career
"Dynasty" was an underrated record, overall.
I love this era of KISS the most. Don’t care what anyone says. It brings back memories of watching Star Wars and staying inside on rainy summer days listening to these albums on my Walkman.
KISS may not be everyone's fav, but they really wrote some great songs! I'm an Ace fan, and his solos always served the song. He gets ragged on for being sloppy and non-technical, but rock-n-roll is about attitude and feel. There is room for everyone and all abilities!
I can't be the only one who heard Paul go, "Mmmmmmm yeah" during the I Was Made for Loving You riff in my head.
I heard it as well, even when I hear the Instrumental, my mind always fills in the blanks.
LOVE all of these. I don't care what anyone else says, Disco KISS rules!! I love New York Groove, Sweet always play it live as part of a medley, it sounds so damn good. Looking forward to part 3!! Creatures is a Killer album 🔥🤘🏻

I actually love The Elder. It's one of my favorite Kiss albums. As for their solo albums my favorite is Paul Stanley.
Dude, major props for including tracks from Unmasked & Elder. Two overlooked albums which deserve more love than they get.
That bassline for Sure Know Something has always been one of my favorites.

I stole your love is such an underrated song, I love watching back the old shows from the love gun tour when they would use it as an opener!
Not gonna lie, would love to see you continue the KISS groove lists at least up through the Revenge album! Even the Carnival of Souls album (Last with Bruce Kulick) had some killer grooves on it!

My personal favorite riff on that Ace Frehley (or Kiss) album is "Rip It Out", great drumming and riffing all around 🤣
Love Gun and Shock Me were always two of my favourite riffs, man, Ace definitely kills it and those solos are also fun as hell

Great choices! I’m surprised that nothing from Paul Stanley’s solo album made the cut though. I always thought “Tonight You Belong To Me” was a great riff. Anyway, awesome video!
I love these videos where you play both drum and guitar parts. They sound very professional. Having short samples of riffs helps me discover cool stuff that I might have missed. Keep rocking!

Wahay, the Elder. As a 10y old it was my first vinyl, I was so proud. Then everyone in school said it was the worst kiss album. I however have always enjoyed it so thanks !

I used to wonder why everyone worshiped Ace. Paul was my guy when I was a kid. But now I know.
I remember buying "Love Gun" in the Spring of 1979. It was the first album I bought myself. It actually had a paper Love Gun inside. I had gotten "Double Platinum" and Ace's solo album the previous Christmas. I was ecstatic, but I don't think my parents, and the neighbors, had any idea what was about to happen to the airwaves on our street! 😁🤘 KISS was the ultimate middle finger to my father.

Lots of great stuff here, including some gems that time has forgotten.
Although not near as good as the early albums, I love Unmasked, probably because it was one of the first albums I owned. “Is that you” has such cool attitude and energy and love the way it kicks in.

Been a fan of Kiss since 1982. I went through my cd collection a month ago, after ten years in the garage (cds, not me). Found 21 Kiss cds, that’s even more than I knew I had (when did I buy «Hot in the Shade?).

Hell yeah dude! So happy you covered Dynasty! That record gets shit for being silly disco... I disagree 100 percent. Dynasty is a hard rock record. I mean get real... Hard Times, Dirty Living... ROCK N ROLL. PERIOD.
I wish the production wasn't so glossy on that album. It needed to be heavier, IMHO. I was really bummed out 15 year old KISS fan when it was released.

Love it. How about a video on what made Ace sound the way he did. How he addressed the pentatonic vs contemporaries, tone and pick attack etc. And perhaps address the controversy of whether he was a good /great player. It seems on Internet forums it’s fashionable to hate on the guy. I think he was amazing in the studio. His solos were fantastic compositions and had so much fire. So much more exciting than many more famous players. But live he was very sloppy. That combined with Kiss’s image seems to have made him a figure of fun to many and not respected.

Hey, TAoG! Is it 1st and 2nd fret power chords on the A, D and G strings in The Oath? I always played it at the 6th and 7th frets. I thought it sounded a little heavier.

@@TheArtofGuitar idk how, that was my fave tune on Ace’s album from day one, but welcome to the club. I think it was the disjointed choruses until the final one when it all comes together
Luckily my friend made me a Kiss compilation about 10 years ago and I heard it and it was undeniable. I somehow skipped over the solo albums but know now that Ace’s was the best.
