I just bought one of these, maybe my settings are off but seems like the shunt is using alot of juice. I have a 100ah redodo mini battery and charged it to 100% yesterday and now it's at 95% and not hooked up to anything else.
The diff between amps is related to Power Factor (PF) issues. But this time it’s with the AC side of the inverter. The battery has to put out more power to power the inverter circuity, as well. It’s never a free lunch with this stuff. Nice video!😊
The reason it showed 99% at the start was the power the Bluetooth was drawing, by zeroing it you removed the monitoring of the power the Bluetooth part of the shunt draws. This is why in the testing part the current draw was showing higher on the battery than the monitor.
I want one of these types of monitors for my Lithium battery off-grid ham radio operation but don't want a bunch of wires to contend with. Am I screwed? My battery has Anderson Power Poles, not screw-in connections like this one you have.
I have a Victron Shunt on my camper and wanted to get another one for my boat. I eMailed Victron to as questions about a 24v system vs. a 12v and product recommendation. They wouldn’t answer and referred to a dealer. I’m buying one of these instead.
Great review!! I just wondering how far can the Signal of the Bluetooth of the shunt will go before you lose signal? I know the Victron Shunt is terrible for The Bluetooth signal giving Mabe 5 feet!!
Just installed this last night and the range literally sucks. I have to be literally 5ft away, which defeats the whole purpose. I have heard horror stories about the Victron's range and thought this may be better, nope. I will de-install this and take it back, which sucks because I have it all installed and tucked away. Until I see the range of the Victron, I can't say if this is a TBD issue or a bluetooth range issue that both the Victron suffers from as well.

can you do a video on the input side of this showing battery temp,,,i like the shunt but mine shows -25.8 f when it should be around 65f,, i shot my battery at diff areas with infared temp guauge
I have lifepo4 victron battery. Victron inverter.victron charger even victron panels. Lastly i bought the smart shunt of victron... I would never put nothing from anywhere else to my system.. it is electricity you never know what will go wrong with no quality products
I want to use this on my trolling motor lithium batteries. I have 2 12v 100ah batteries wired in series. Will this one device work for both batteries or do I need 2 . Also how would I wire it in thanks
You only need one. It wires in on the main negative of your battery bank. There is a small positive wire that will connect to the main positive of your battery bank.
They are probably waiting for a new batch to come in. It's happened before, they run out, and it'll be out of stock for awhile. Might be a little while.
Hey Brad first of all thanks again for another great budget product. My question is did the shunt comes with a manual or isn't it available on like there website so that you can accurately set the perameters correct granted that you when tru the trouble of testing and tuning to get it right and if there is not the sell should use the settings from you video
Im not impressed with mine. I've had several problems with the actual percentage of charge once it stated a way to low of a percentage than it should have been then a couple days later it showed full after many hours have been drained
Hey Brad, I just bought one on Amazon to monitor some batteries on my rv. It should be here Monday. I noticed it shows connections in series/ parallel, but not parallel. I'm connecting two lithium in parallel. Do you have the company's email address so I can contact? Thanks, Chris
You don't need to do anything special, just parallel your batteries, wire in the the shunt to what you decide to be the main negative, and hook up only one red (fused) positive wires from the shunt to what you decide is the main positive. Only thing you'll need to do is set the battery capacity properly in the app. So if you have two 100ah batteries in parallel, set the battery capacity at 200ah in the app. Their email is service@tumblevd.com if you need anything further.
@Brad Cagle thanks Brad. Yeah, I wasn't sure because I read the instructions and it doesn't say anything about parallel. They have available only on Amazon and they raised the price to 70 dollars. Still worth it if it's comparable to the victron shunt
As someone mentioned, the price is now $10 higher for the TBD shunt. I am intrigued with this device and the price. The connection portion of the setup couldn't be easier. I agree that what Victron charges is ridiculous. But if people keep buying it at that price, the price won't drop. If Victron had any real competition selling similar devices, that would help. It is too bad that Victron won't lower the price. They would most likely sell more shunts if they did.
I just bought one of these TBD Smart shunts. Mine connects part of the time. My Victron connects every time. I guess you get what you pay for.
I have two of these one one my lithium setup on my RV and one on an off grid cabin. About a year in, they are working well.
Awesome, glad to hear there is long term usage reporting. Thank you!

that app and device looks exactly like the victron. I think that's a 1:1 copy. Have you tried to connect this to the actual victron app?
@@sharada.a he mentioned in the video that he tried connecting to the Victron app but it wouldn't connect.

Any idea what the Bluetooth range is?
Hi, the amazon link is no more available. is it safe to buy directly from their website?
Does look familiar. Wonder if it works with the other smart shunt software? Edit: Of course you tried it, thanks! :)
Yeah, I did. :)

Oh man, sounds like the should have helped you directly. I'd be interested to know how this compares to your victron version
Thanks
Do you know what happened to their website? It's not responding!

See if you can figure out the utility of the third wire port, the Victron only has two.
You can either monitor a 2nd battery or connect a temp sensor. Both come with the unit.

You're welcome. Yes, it comes with a manual, and in the back it does mention the settings for lithium . I guess I should have read the manual first 😆
Gday Brad, it looks like someone has taken it down, hope your ok mate😅
I wonder if you could integrate it with cerbo gx.
No. But you could write a dbus driver for it that would allow it to work. If I get some time I was thinking about doing it. Thanks!
Why did you bother checking the Bluetooth range we all know the victron has almost no range

I wonder how many of these chinese apps are spying, data collecting and/or crypto mining?
So do I 😅

You’re laughing so much when you mention “the other well known shunt” in the market ie Victron. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LOL, yup 🤣
Hi @BradCagle Heard the company shut down.
Okay review, but you should get familiar with the product to eliminate "I don't know" or "I guess" or "I'm not exactly sure"
I do reviews on the fly, so you're experiencing it as I do.
$130.00 for a so called smart shunt is ridiculous. Not too smart if you cough up all that money for something that should cost no more than $60.
Yeah, this one is a knock off, and it does sell for around $60

What is the current draw? Victron claims
Great question, I'll hook up my fluke inline and check this.
@@BradCagle did you get the result ?

I just checked mine. For a couple of seconds after power up it is at 2.50mA then settles to 1.15mA.
