“The heavens declare the glory of God”-Psalm 19:1 - Наука та технологія
Last night, 3/28/2024, I drove over an hour west of Dallas/Fort Worth to get some relative darkness to see Comet Pons Brooks. I have Vortex 12X50 binoculars with a tripod, but wish I'd bought some much cheaper, much more powerful Celestron Skymaster 20X80s instead! I'm new to this & it took me a while to find the comet even though I knew where to look. Right now, with my 12X50s, only an hour & a half from the bright DFW metroplex, Pons Brooks is only a greenish fuzz that looks like a spot of mold. It'll look better in a few weeks. The problem with these binoculars is I'm now fascinated enough I'm about to buy a telescope! I'm considering a Celestron NexStar 8SE. Anyway, I sat in my folding chair for over _two hours_ jumping from Jupiter & it's moons (wow!), to Orion, to tracking one of about 100 satellites I saw streaking across the sky, back to Comet Pons Brooks thinking it'd get brighter as it set (nope), then the moon rose behind me & I had something new to examine! I could stare at all this for hours!
Thank you for such a wonderful observing report! I've read nice things about the Nexstar 8Se but have you considered a dobsonian telescope as well?
Good reading about your experience.
Nice to see you covered the Southern Hemisphere! Subbed
I really appreciate that! Sadly, I have never had the pleasure of observing the beautiful Southern Hemisphere but I try to cover major events for it when they occur!
i saw this a few nights ago! first comet i've ever actually seen, to say i was excited was an understatement lol
I'm so glad to hear that. I was out the past two nights seeing it. Views were better for my on Thursday due to some light cloud coverage. It appeared as a gray/light green blurry comet about an hour after sunset.
Pls tell me where you saw it, as I'm based in the uk, and I'm dying to see it!!
@@AlexS-sp3zhi'm in the u.s. so i can't really help much, but there's an app you can use called stellarium that shows you where objects are in the night sky for your location
Should be in the West about 45 minutes after sunset. It will be close to Jupiter is a few days.@@AlexS-sp3zh
I managed to see it with binoculars and did my research to find it. I'm more upper the states of the United States and the comet was just behind it between west-southern. It was kind of hard to see with the naked-eye but seeing it was cool it had a brownish/red color in the middle/center of it with white color around it while having blue/green at the end. Not sure because the sun made it different colors but for sure looks different to airplanes flying when one was flying over me while I was watching the comet and after the comet show was over.
Great job catching it that low to the horizon. It will be out of sight for us in the northern hemisphere very soon! Thanks for sharing your observing report!
Thanks for the reminder.
My pleasure!
Thx for the info!
Of course!
Oh man, I’m going to Texas for the solar eclipse. Debating on taking my camera or just enjoying the show. I was at the one in 2017 in Tennessee and it was truly a life changing experience.
I was in Tennessee as well. Honestly, I would just enjoy the show, I plan on not taking my camera just to enjoy the event!!!
@@LateNightAstronomy that’s what I’m leaning towards as well, and to be honest every pic I have seen of the eclipse from last time didn’t come close to what I saw with my eyes, so I have a feeling whatever I capture will be the same.
Omg I’ve seen this and had no idea what it was! Thank you for the best explanation!
I'm glad you were able to see it!
Thanks so much! Cant wait to see both the comet & the eclipse!
We've got a lot of exciting things coming up the next few weeks.
@@LateNightAstronomycan you tell me what will be happening ?
@@20Cosmo What part of it are you talking about?
@@LateNightAstronomy what’s exciting that’s coming up and will the comet be visible in North America. Btw I search it up and it says April 8 and April 20-21st what does it mean by that?
Neat.
I agree.
i saw it!
It’s you!!!! The dark story guy. Occult
Thank you. Just in time for it’s Jupiter pass... weather permitting of course 😄👍
🕊🇬🇧
Best of luck seeing it. It should be a great show tonight through binoculars near Jupiter.
I seen it on April 21,2024 tonight in Stockton California I recorded with my Samsung S24 Ultra 5 g wow.
I'm glad you were able to see it!!!
Thanks.
I will send a photo of comet if possible from Port Macquarie Australia 🇦🇺
Please do and best of luck observing it.
Im not sure but I believe I just saw one of the two with bare eyes. Man, this is really happening!
I hope you keep enjoying views of this comet.
❤❤
I am new at your Channel
Glad to have you join our community!
0:51 right now it should be near the moon and jupiter
Yes, it is very close to the Jupiter on April 12th.
that ksp background music is the best 😂
Haha. You are the second person to mention that. It's a free song I found on UA-cam's library. Does it sound like the music from that video game?
@@LateNightAstronomy it is the music from the game I’m 100% sure. (Surely not because I “invested” 1800h on the game) 😂
What is that Software where you See that Comet with the date and time?
This is the first Video what i see about you sry if you already talk about it.
I've got a link to the app in the subscription below. It's called SkySafari and it's a great one!
Tried yesterday 4/5/24 , I’m near Chicago. We have clear skies, I was in a farming area . Couldn’t find it I should have been about 120 degrees off Jupiter according to the star chart apps. I could see the Pleiades with the naked eye and better with the binoculars, just above Jupiter. Hoping for clear skies on the twelfth.
Thanks for sharing your report. I haven't been able to see it in about a week because of weather but am hoping for clear skies on the 12th as well.
☄☄☄☄☄
Saw it tonight in Michigan and captured a photo however no viable tail
I'm so glad you were able to see it. I could just barely make out a tail with averted vision a couple nights ago with my 12 inch telescope but it took some imagination to see it.
From Australia, never tried looking for comet's till now. Is 6.30pm the best time. Or is it just in the sky over a week and I can view it whenever as long as it's dark?
You will have a nice opportunity to see it in the coming weeks. It will get higher in the sky each night for you. I would start going out to look for it about an hour after sunset.
will it be visible with a 4 inch reflector in *bortle 6* skies?
Yes it should be about an hour after sunset. The trick is to keep trying to find it as the sky darkens.
Hope everyone enjoys the eclipse and the comet!!
Same to you!
I have observed it for the 10th time since March 1st visually with the 13x50 Monocular, it's bright and easy to see, last night it was even brighter and I also saw its tail despite the bright moon, its coma was big, especially its center that looks like a blurry star when viewed, for those who intend to look at it visually, I'd recommend using averted vision.
Where u located approximately?
@@VBQX 14° North, Philippines
I've caught it two times in the past week. Once with binoculars and the other time with my telescope. Right now the trick is letting the sky get dark enough after sunset to spot it. from my location that's been about 45 minutes to an hour after sunset.
@@LateNightAstronomyNice, northern hemisphere only has about a month to see it before it sinks to the horizon, too bad its perihelion passage isn't good, hopefully it will make a nice long dust tail before it sinks to the horizon, if not I am looking forward to comet C/2023 A3 (T-A) in Sep - Oct.
That should be a nice comet as well!@@AstroJohn21
Does that background music come from ksp👀
I don't remember the name of it off the top of my head. It came from the free music provided by the youtube library.
The weather has sucked for two weeks in Maryland
Tough weather for me as well. Hoping for clear skies this week to enjoy the eclipse and see the comet near Jupiter!
Hi can I do astrophotography or some sort with the Nikon P1000 125zoom 300mm.Iam in Brooklyn,NY.IWe have a national park Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn were we can go.
Yes, you should be able to pick up this comment. Set it up on a tripod, start with the lowest power zoom and us manual focus on a bright star to get the image sharp. Point it towards the general location of the comet and take 2 to 6 second exposures looking for a small cloudy blur.
Not to bust your bubble but the manhattan skyline will ruin it for you. On top of that the Nikon p1000 is a daytime camera and because it has a small sensor it is a terrible low light camera. The only way to photograph Pons-brooks as of tonight is using a time exposure of atleast 2 seconds with an ISO of 1600 and an Fstop of 2.8. If you expose for any longer you risk washing out the image with the light of either NYC or the Full moon that will be out for the next two weeks. Additionally, if you expose for longer than 3 seconds using a high zoom, and you dont use a star tracker, you will get star streaking and that will make the image useless. I say you go out there and try it and see how it comes out before the big day April 8 when it will be close to jupiter around 8pm!
Will it ever be visible in the northern hemisphere’s night skies? I live in California and I’m afraid I’ll miss it… I’ve been checking apps but during the night it’s already gone
No, sadly it won't after sunset right now is as good as it wil lget for us.
@LateNightAstronomy alright thanks! At least we lived through it haha! Maybe the next comet will be more promising for the night skies
I should get some nice views out here in Country Queensland, bugger all light pollution.
I hope you are able to see it!
What app/program is he using to track the comet?
SkySafari 7 Pro
There should be a link to it in the description of the video. It's a great app.
Can I see it in Belgium?
Yes, should be very similar to what is shown in the first half of this video.
Should I be worried about it?
No, it will pass by the Sun and Earth just fine and be a great sight!
Can it be captured by android phone? I really want to see
It would be worth a try but my guess is that right now that may be difficult to do unless you had your phone held up to the eyepiece of a telescope.
Its not visible to naked eye nor visible with binoculars 😢😢😢
It all depends on light pollution and sky glow. I can get it right now through binoculars but not the naked eye.
What app?
SkySafari 7
its too bad the comet will be so high up in the sky that it wont even come in the frame if trying to photograph the eclipse with it. you might need like a 20mm lens to get that wide of a field and at that point the comet will be just a pin point of light!
Good point. I'm planning on just enjoying the total eclipse that day.
This Morning at 3 am ?
If you live in the southern hemisphere you can still see it!
Can I see it with a 15x70 binoculars form India?
Yes, you should be able to about 45 minutes to an hour after sunset early in April
🙏☀️🩷🕊️☄️🕊️🩷☀️🙏
Are we going to see comets to😩day❔
Tonight is a great chance to see the comet near Jupiter!
I thought it was June 2 it would be closest to the sun? 🤔
No, sorry. That's closest to Earth, 1.5Au iirc
Reminiscence of Heavens Gate mass suicide 1997.
I really dislike the name “the devil comet” I thought we were last fear mongering everything about space
Agreed. I tend to only refer to it as Pons Brooks.
People are going to post as much as they can. It's about them getting attention. U can't control that...
It's just a nickname because of it's appearance. It has two protruding hornlike shape, hence, devil's comet.
I love how everything points to the Unseen beings
It USED to be called TECUMSEH 'S Comet ....so thats what I call it !!
"Devils commet" their hinting yall once again and ypu all still think its a fictional commet. Yall dont even relaise its signs from ya
Go back to grade 5 , learn simple sentences and then come back and try again.
This comet sucks. I just went out on the western horizon. I couldn't see anything even with a telescope panning around.
You kids are too young to remember Halleys Comet or Halle-Bopp. Now those were comets. You could see them in the Northern Hemisphere with the naked eye. You didn't have a pathetic sliver of time to see them in on the low horizon. You didn't have to hope trees weren't blocking your view.
Hale-Bopp was my first comet viewed through a telescope i the mid 1990s. Such a n incredible sight and was you said an easy naked eye target.
i saw Hale Bopp for so many months at night and daytime that it was a houeshold name at that time until one day it finally dissapeared.
@@samsungh3137 It was so spectacular people killed themselves over it.
No one gonna kill themselves over this wanna be thing.
what is bro yapping about
QUIVIYEJTILUX..okai
😂..no high pressure system over Europe since September 2023, no chance to see this comet.
Sorry to hear that! Hope it clears up for you soon!
