Thanks for watching Dan. I love dip pens. Every now and then I try a brush pen instead, which I love too- but there is just...something about dip pens.
Thanks Unicorn Girl! This was a fun drawing to do especial towards the end. Couldn't feel my fingers that much. :-) Have you tried inking with a brush? If so which do you prefer? Thanks for watching.
While I'm new to pen and ink, I love the dip pen most of all. My favorite is the 512 nib with Speedball ink. Curious, though. Do you have a special container you use when outside the stable environment of your studio?
Welcome to a painful and very enjoyable medium. I've used the 512 nib too. It's nice. The quality and variety of line I can make with it is nice. In the video I was sitting in one of those folding "nylon" chairs with cup holders in the armrests. I just put my ink bottle in there and my extra stuff, like paper towel and bottle top on the ground next to me. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thanks for watching a000ab. In this video I used Speedball black ink. I also use Higgins, FW Acrylic Ink and Bombay. If I had to pick, I think I'd pick Higgins. Have you used any of these? Or what is your fav?
@@smilecreaterepeat Thanks for your reply. I have not used any of those. I'm new in dip pens and experiencing yet. Up to now, I have just tried "Winson & Newton Blue", as this is the only one that my local shop sells. I cannot say accurately how good/bad it is, as I have not tried any other ones yet. I want to buy a black ink online and try that as well . So, based on your suggestion, I will go for Higgins. I guess you were meaning "Higgins Black India ink (waterproof)". Am I right?
Hi neptunusmaris, It is a pretty comfortable holder. A lot of the ones I use I wrap a little tape around the barrel to make it a little fatter. That seems to not tire out my hand as much when I'm working on a longer illustration. This holder is just a universal nib holder (not crow quill that's different) that you should be able to find online. Speedball makes a nice one. What is your favorite ink for dip pens? Thanks for watching.
The pen tip will not tear the paper...unless you try to and want to. If you scratch it back and forth hard it will eventually ruin the paper. It also depends on the paper. I used a heavy weight watercolor paper so it was fine but if you drew this on newsprint not only would the paper tear quickly, the ink would also soak in, bleed and probably leave bits of paper on your pen nib.
I could be wrong, but I think that is a Speedball Hunt 513-ef. I can't read the markings, but the size, shape, and eye are identical to the 513-ef, and that looks like the same holder too. It also seems to handle about same (although that's hard to really tell when just watching it as opposed to feeling it for myself, lol).
Hi Dactilar Tree, Thank you and thank you. As you know (i check out your work, nice stuff) inking is a lot of fun. What pen do you use and do you like inking with a brush? Thanks for watching and keep up the good work.
Using a dip pen is immensely satisfying - watching someone else use a dip pen is doubly so

I feel cold by just listening to the wind sound on the background. Thank you for doing this video!
It was cold... if I remember my fingers stopped working a little. Lucky the shivering added to the "varying" line quality :-)
Great video! Love this dip pen as well

A little tip for removing/replacing nibs. Use those little rubber finger grips thimbles you see bank tellers using.
Great idea, thank you, Bartholo!
Love Bill Watterson such a lovely hand
He is amazing. The stories, the art, everything.
Nice line work, pen and ink is definitely my favorite medium! Cheers!

Thanks Matthew. Appreciate it. Even though i like brush pens, I love the hassle, I mean romance of a dip pen, brush and ink bottle.

Where did you get that nib holder, it looks ergonomic enough to hold for long periods of time?

Wonderful...Lovely
Thank you so much Maria. I appreciate the kind words and for you taking the time to share them with me.
Good
will that not tear the paper
Hi Kamlesh, I'm not sure what you are referring to, will what not tear the paper? Thanks
she means if sharp metal edge of pen damage paper.
Thanks HVGUY.

Thanks for the question Marcelo, foxxyrocker82 is right. Its the Speedball 513ef.
Thanks for the answer foxxyrocker82. You're right! Hope you enjoyed the video.
