Tears for Fears opened their concerts this past season with this version by Lorde playing. Shows how great the lyrics are, but Lorde shows what a great artist she is by making this sound all her own.
That’s awesome that they expressed their approval of it using that version. Hope they do a collaboration together sometime, or have her join them live for a version.
Listen. I'm also 62 yr old (old). I've lived through the original. It's a great song! For someone to take a song, use the imagination, creativity and "yes" have some balls to make a cover their own song shows real talent. BOTH VERSIONS ARE GREAT!
It's haunting and I got chills listening to Lorde's version. I think it's amazing, she give justice to the song and make it her own. Lorde is the REAL DEAL, haters will always be haters.
This version makes it new and gives it more meaning and does not take away from the Tears for Fear version that was just as meaningful and epic when I first heard it as a teenager.
I agree, she is a beautiful young woman. I love how so many people hate on this musical goddess. It just makes me love her all that much more because she must be doing something right to get so much hate from all the sheeple. Best of all, this is hardly the last we've heard of Lorde. She will only get better and more innovative as she matures.
She didn't destroy it - she twisted it, changed the feel of it and that's what got some upset. Brilliant! I think she molded it into her own. Very cool. I love both versions!
For all of you who doesn't like this song JUST because there is an original, just stop listening to this then.. personally i like both of them, and i like the way that Lorde adds a lot of melankoli to this song that tears for fear never incorporated...
This girl just keeps topping herself again and again. It gives me hope that true music is still alive in us. She is a breath of fresh air in this sea of mediocrity. Keep going lorde, show everyone what music was is and should always be, and shes not even old enough to drink.......Just an amazing person.
This just has an awesome dystopian sort of sound, I feel like its another "Radioactive" we are going to see this in every trailer but admittedly it makes them seem a bit more badass.
Wow I never saw this video until now, everything flawless. Great job Lorde and I'll see you there. For anyone that may have not go what this song means? Don't try and rule the world, its dark and quiet like the shallow waters at night if you go that route.
Listen all of you that hate the song if Ubisoft used THIS version instead of the original there is some thing they like about it so stop complaining and just enjoy and if you don't like it why did you click on the video?
Galen G91 That is self-contradictory. Something cannot be an opinion and yet right at the same time. Within truth and claims of right lies inter-subjectivity and is contradictory than the implicit subjective claim of an opinion.
Mikael Jensen A opinion can actually be identical with what is right. If it is true that a chair stands in front of me and i have the opinion that a chair stands in front of me.
I like this version,, I think it goes well with the lyrics,,, she's just not smiling and saying there's a room where the light won't find you .........
I was wondering what the name of that song was, I love the original :D But this version is good too, I do agree that it is more suiting to the lyrics but the original just remind me of sunny days on a family road trip to Auckland, listening to The Rock on the radio :D It's got good memories.
Michelle1788 In fact no, this is actually the song used on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. But it experienced some kind of revolving effect thanks to the Assassins Creed: Unity Trailer.
All those who like this version do not know the original. We can see this being used in a movie trailer (Dracula Untold) for dramatic effect, but as a song that is arguably one of the finest alt/pop songs written and recorded in the last 40 years....ahh, listen to the original.
As much credit to Tears for Fears, Lorde's approach toward the song with the dark and heavy tone makes the lyrics really fitting, powerful and superior. Which is why I like it more than the original, even though it has more charm than this.
Simon Phung same here. I also love Tears for Fears, but the bright and happy beat and rhythm didn't fit well. Lorde made her cover and made it darker less bright. She made it more dramatic. I legit felt like an idiot for liking this one better than the orignal
So you kind of missed the point of it. It was made as a tribute to the synth pop which was popular at the time. And this song is just monotone singing to dubstep.
I also feel like (and this is my own interpretation) the happy tone is to hide what’s going on. When you pretend everything is perfect, ok. Then, you really listen and you hear how everything is “falling apart” in a sense.
seriously, listening to this song and watching this video, i was thrown from the highest cliff to a deep, deep depression and still falling...............................................................
Ok tears for fears version and this version are both amazing, but you can't compare them the only thing they have in common is the title and the lyrics they're both good in their own way
Tears for fears is total shit trying to use depressing lyrics and happy music I see what their trying to do to add that creepy affect but they failed lorde turned their song into a hit
+Rachel Forbes The Tears for Fears version was number 1 in the U.S., Canada, and Lorde's home nation of New Zealand, as well as being a top ten hit in several other countries. The Lorde version only made number 14 in New Zealand (and made number 27 on the U.S. rock chart, which is not the same as the Hot 100).
Lorde music is pretty good and i think for a song like this not easy to express but gotta give woman credit she is a artist that can have you on the edge of your seat i wish i could meet her to say wow i think your beautiful and love your choice of music you sing
Rachit Ramesh I didn't find it fit better. Nor in the Dracula Untold. Maybe cause I didn't see the Dracula one, but I did see ACU and the song dont fit cause the trailer needs more hype than that. Though Im a fan of neither of these games(?) [I know ACU is a game idk what dracula is]

So true
I agree!
@Interrupting Coward, right ?
Lorde has this ability to make a song by another artist her own. I think that’s why she’s done a lot of covers. Great singer!
It's haunting and I got chills listening to Lorde's version. I think it's amazing, she give justice to the song and make it her own. Lorde is the REAL DEAL, haters will always be haters.

Assassin's Creed Unity!
Definitely not like the original. And very well done.
You're a strong artist, Lorde... keep the strength
TEARS FOR FEARS will be getting a big chunk of change for this cover.
THIS is how you do a cover song. Not by imitating. But by reinventing.
Lorde has put a darkness into this song & made it her own.
that water proof makeup works well
ikr lol
i thought after two months me people would have said ikr
ikr lol

I love how lorde actually touches the real issues going on in this world. Well made video!
Thankyou so much Lorde for bringing back SLOW SUNG SONGS. They totally rock, especially when done by beautiful people like yourself.
Lorde is the most artistic thing that has come along in awhile. Interesting videos and performances.
Lorde: tries to copy an epic song from the 1980s
Tears for Fears: epic 1980s
Lorde is the reason why I'm bisexual.
I get goosebumps at 1:48 Every single time
lol.... :v
LORDES SO WONDERFUL VERY NICE THANK YOU.
I love both versions. Well done on a very original take on this song, Lorde.

Same bro
Just follow whatever track plays over a Ubisoft ad, huh?
I've never seen the assassins creed unity ad because I hate that franchise... so no... I should have been more specific and said FILM trailers.
Bugger the computer game I like this rendition for its own qualities.
Speaking of dystopian, this was featured on the soundtrack for one of The Hunger Games movies.
when she says theres a room where the light wont find you, best part of the song
Assassin Creed Unity brought me here... this is just amazing O_O
Wow I never saw this video until now, everything flawless. Great job Lorde and I'll see you there. For anyone that may have not go what this song means? Don't try and rule the world, its dark and quiet like the shallow waters at night if you go that route.
Both renditions of this song are equally awesome, performed by very talented artists.
Listen all of you that hate the song if Ubisoft used THIS version instead of the original there is some thing they like about it so stop complaining and just enjoy and if you don't like it why did you click on the video?
hauntingly beautiful
This by far way better than the original. She took an old song and made it modern, intense and captivating! Well done amazing!!
More modern and intense? Ok. I totally agree with that.
More captivating? Amazing? Better tah the original? Are u on drugs? oO
their completely different
A perfect version for the most depressing generation in the history of music.
Hey, that's just your opinion, man.
It's the right opinion
Galen G91 That is self-contradictory. Something cannot be an opinion and yet right at the same time. Within truth and claims of right lies inter-subjectivity and is contradictory than the implicit subjective claim of an opinion.

This song made Assassin's Creed Unity trailer rise to a new level. Just Fantastic.
I like this version,, I think it goes well with the lyrics,,, she's just not smiling and saying there's a room where the light won't find you .........
She brings this version to a whole other level..Its so dark but i freakin looovvvvve it!
This was really well made! Thanks for putting it together :)
Guys, this cover is made for the Catching Fire soundtrack. Even Curt Smith himself thinks its amazing.
grew up loving the original song but this is far superior.
good Lorde.
