You guys are being too harsh on your own team lol. Australia is still pretty much favourites to win this match. It's just the fight that NKR showed is commendable. But we're still trailing by 116 runs, which is a huge margin.
Now Australia is in a tricky situation. They need to decide how big target they have to set and anything around 300 has a good chance to be chased down. If Australia goes for above 350 they need to bat at least 2.5 sessions which still gives enough room for India to go for a draw and if they go bonkers and try to score quickly it can prove to be counter productive.

They also allow far too many tail end runs, Warne, McGrath and B.Lee used to run through the tail. Annoying tail end runs cost Australia the winning ashes, the previous series in India, the previous series against India at home (those annoying runs from thakur and sundar at the Gabba, and Ashwin blocking out for a draw in Sydney) for example. When the pitch at Galle flattened out into a road in the 2nd test 2 years ago they looked toothless again. I want to see more short stuff at the lower order and tailenders, set the field for it and go after them. This team have become masters of slowing letting go of huge advantages. I could be predict this happening, India selected this team and packed their lower order batting for this reason. That's why ashwin was pushed out and why they dropped gill

Back in the day Australia would pile up the runs and then boss the game by still being able to get a big lead, then Hayden, Gilchrist and co would smash them everywhere in the 2nd innings and by the 4th innings Warne would become unplayable. Back in the day Australia would pile up the runs and then boss the game by still being able to get a big lead, then Hayden, Gilchrist and co would smash them everywhere in the 2nd innings and by the 4th innings Warne would become unplayable.
Australia just don't do that now, even if they get a big lead on first innings they come and start pissing about in the 3rd innings and giving the momentum back to the opposition. They just don't have the ruthlessness of 20 years ago.
The only time they showed that was at Adelaide this year when they had something to prove

The moment Virat takes even an easy run commentators sing accolades of him about how quick he is between the wickets. He could have easily reached the crease without the need to dive. He saw the call was made and he didn't reject it and also he took two steps and looked back to where the ball was. He either should have rejected the call or just trusted Jaiswal and ran. See it would be a different discussion If Virat had reached the crease and both the batsmen will be praised about stolen run and how great coordination between the batsmen was.
