I Took My BONE STOCK Honda Transalp 750 on the Local ATV Trails...

- I really should have added like a skidplate and crashbars or at least a set of handguards to my 2024 Honda Transalp 750 before taking it on the local ATV trails, but I've never been one to have a lot of patience. So, I headed out to do a fun Transalp 750 off road test at the local OHV area. Admittedly, I stuck to the green/easy trails on this trip just because while I'm impatient to get my Honda XL750 Transalp out for some off road testing, I should probably take at least the minimum precautions and add some protective Transalp 750 mods before I do any very serious off roading.
This was a great day of Honda Transalp off road testing leading up to my upcoming Honda Transalp 750 review, so make sure you're subscribed to the channel so you don't miss out on future XL750 Transalp content.

Dude, you’re hilarious. If no one has ever told you, it’s your personality that keeps the majority of us coming back, not so much the content. With that said, I love all this transalp content, but would you mind throwing some 300 Rally content up in the mix? Thank you very much.
The transalp is pretty sick though aint it
I totally like this content. Doing basic trails is probably the most relatable way to display a dual sport/adventure bike like this. Also the personality is totally great
@@JTskates this ☝🏻. I will never (or hardly ever) be doing trails much more than this. Why? Because I’m a total novice. I will be doing the majority of this stuff alone. I’m married, with a kid and if I don’t kill myself my wife will finish the job. This is about what I will be doing for the most part.
You captured the essence of the bike. I bought one after years of heavy cruisers. It’s opened up a whole new world to me. It’s great in the Western North Carolina twisties. I’m 73.
As a DR650 rider for 10 years who spends 90%+ of the time on the road, and who has been wanting something that is a little more comfortable to ride on the highway in between the sweet spots, your videos are really making me want to just get one of these sight unseen.
I sold my DR650 and got the DE800. 7000 miles in and I am very happy with the new bike
That looked like a really fun ride :) Beautiful scenery and trails
Stickers can add up to 5 hp and 3 lb./ft of torquemadas, FYI.
Dude, keep talking don’t worry about the trolls. That is why everybody loves watching your videos. Keep up the what you’re doing.
This bike is a great example of don’t worry about the spec sheet, just ride the bike it seems like. It just all works together for a good result.
My favorite part of your videos IS the rambling while riding, so thanks for not editing it all out, keep it up!!
It's remarkable how much confidence a well balanced motorcycle can benefit a rider. The motorcycle specifications can't tell you that. Riding no hands around a muddy curve says it all! Awesome video Ben 👍
Loving the Transalp content! Makes me want to upgrade from the CB500X... But at the same time makes me happy enough to have a CB500X.
Would love to have a new 500x. Hard to find around here. Best wishes!
@@Tennessee968if you can afford one, get the TA instead. I own a 2022 CB500X and, although it's still fun, the touring comfort, suspension, ground clearance, power, and torque of the TA are all better with almost zero weight gain vs a CB500X
@@alozborne I would, all good but tubed tires, big issue, safety wise especially.
@@alozborne Hey thanks for the suggestion. I am just getting into adv bikes. I grew up with dirt bikes and I still have a dual sport 91 Kawasaki KE. I'm looking more for the 300cc to 500cc range to get my feet wet. Its been 20 yrs. Have a good one and thanks!
@@jutjub22why? I case the tube pops while on freeway? it’s never happened to me and I hope it doesn’t.
What happens if a tubeless tire looses air pressure. Wouldn’t it be same as a pooped tube while riding ?
No complaints here with me how techy you are on your reviews Ben, you are so fun to watch and down to earth easy to understand with getting your point cross which makes most sense to me and I'm sure with most everybody else that watch your reviews. And love your sense of humor Ben!
I'm glad somebody appreciates my attempts at humor ;)
Keep write on a talking Ben that is what makes your video so fun to watch. You had me and my son laughing at your shenanigan's in this one.
Love your videos! Because of you, I ended up getting a beat up CRF250L for cheap to learn to ride off-road before getting an adventure bike! Normally I commute on a scooter, but wanted to get into adventure riding, but now I have a dual-sport to learn the basic skills before getting an ADV
“I don’t tell you how to ride your motorcycle don’t tell me how to ride mine” 😂👍🏻👍🏻
Getting more and more tempting everytime I see another rider who loves this bike! I think this bike might be perfect for my riding style.
Your forest/trail areas are much nicer than what we have in the South.
From my experience I prefer your approach to the hobby/sports of not taking it too seriously, cuz I found once you get too serious and technical it’s NO FUN anymore 😢 (that’s coming from an engineer too)
Great Review thanks - you did the really hard bit for me - the easy bits are - its a great road bike & so its ideal for riding big tar seal miles, easy bit - it's not for hard core KTM enduro people. But what about old , fat/fit guys with more money than sense who have piss*d their lives up against a wall working and savour a bit of "adventure" - so how good is it for us - you got it - just great! Thank you. I sat on one today at the local Honda shop and loved it - but not yet rready to swap in - I have a pair of older 2016 Africa Twins both DCT - I'm a Philanthropist because I adopted a pair of Africa Twins - they are too big to take very far off road with my lousy skill-set but the Tranzalp will be fine! Thank you for confirming it with your video - I am nowhere as good and as skilled as you clearly are - but I am keen to try! I have a buddy who will ride with me and I think the Tranzalp is the bike for us!
I ran Karoo streets on my AT and was really surprised too on how good they are on gravel.
At first I'm like, "why is homeboy hyping up riding a bike on easy rated trails?" then I realized it's a 460lb ADV bike in the mud without dirt tires going faster than I would on a dirt bike haha. You're a great rider man, love the videos!
Honestly, my favorite part of your videos is when you keep talking after you sign off lol
You are fortunate to have such nice riding trails around you.
You really have improved your riding experience from you ride the AT...
When I saw your first video, you would never have managed to take the Transalp down those tracks without multiple "lay downs"...
Great job 🙂 and another great video 🙂
“I’m going ambitious on this bike” was SO Pulp Fiction! Do it Dork! Get Ambitious.
I still don’t think I’ll get a Transalp but I’ll keep watching you ride yours because it’s cheaper and more fun 😂👍
I've watched so many of your videos That I do talk to myself when I ride now.
I look forward to your tests once you get your skid plate.
My dawgbromandude. Love this shizzle.
Hey there fellow Dork! I met u briefly at the Tour tech Rally and bought a Ténéré700 with help from your videos... I'm a coach at Dirt Bike Safety Training LLC and you mentioned wanting more classes to increase your skill! .... Next time ya wanna drive up to Washington come see the Captain!
Salute
Talk all you want. I think it's witty and entertaining.
Love your adventures. Good scenery, good content and at times pretty dang funny.
Thank you for pointing out the ground clearance non-issue. When I realized it was comparable to my KLR, I knew it was what I wanted. The seating arrangement and need for premium killed the 800de for me - which is good, because I LERV my Transalp.
Yeah, the oil sump thing, although stupid looking and an odd design choice, is easily solved with a beefy skid plate. I do wonder how much ground clearance is lost by adding a skid plate, wish Ben or Ian would do a before and after measurement. Wouldn't be surprised if Ian does exactly that in his next video.
@@alozborne I hope he does, and Ben might see this and do it when he installs one.
Good video and shows Transalp is more capable than some say. My Transalp is only month old, but loving it so far. Your riding area is nice, once I add some off road protection will hit some fire roads and desert adventures. Appreciate your explanation of dash settings here & other reviews. At 4:00 helped clarify power setting at 3/4 is more gradual, but still 100%, helpful info! Keep up the great content.
Honda is gonna owe you commision for selling me on the transalp. I'm super impressed with the Metzlers too. I might have to look into a set.
I have been watching countless videos on mid weight adv bikes trying to decide on my next purchase and after watching BIG Rock Moto and you I am convinced this is the right bike for me what I’m noticing is all the negative feedback I have heard about the bike that originally lead me to not look into it at all is proving to be inaccurate this bike looks like such a win in capability combined with the price point and that Honda stamp of reliability it’s really a no brainer. I know I didn’t use any punctuation thanks for the great content I’m here in oregon too I’d love to find out where these trails are.
I love my Transalp it’s really good on the asphalt I haven’t been on dirt yet but it handles really good on gravel roads too the front end feels planted
Thanks for the review! Adding this to my list of used bikes I'll likely buy in 5 or 10 years. LOL
Got a lot of people here in Ohio that only ride when it's nice so it's pretty easy to find a garage queen with a low mileage.
I'm a big fan of big rock motto but you are hilarious And honest I will keep watching. I would like to hear you compare this bike with the Suzuki 800And other bikes and this segment
"Hurky Jerkyness" I'm taking that one and adding it to my grammarsenal. 😆 Glad to see you out and about on the new bike dude!
I got a new baby this summer, so I sold my AT. Now I want a Transalp! The AT was too much bike for me, that one might be the sweet spot.
Good video, the weather represented the location! lmao @ the end, you are in the groove Ben!!
Love the commentary Ben. Instant feed back in real time.
That was excellent stuff....super enjoyable. Thanks for being out there!
Great job on the reviews love how you relate to us normal guys
Damn Ben, you had me laughing at 8 in the morning. Another goodin
You've grown so much as a rider over the years. Well done! I still don't think I'd bring that bike on a wet quad trail especially with stock rubber, but there you are doing it.
You are having too much fun, it's contagious! I want to go ride my motorcycle now 🤠
Definitely having regrets that my CB500X isn't insured right now! Also getting a big time itch to buy a Transalp, maybe need to ignore Dork and Ian for awhile! 😜
@@alozborne Give me the 500X
Ben you ride extremely well off road so much better than I great job going down that muddy hill. 😊
There is an after market flush drain plug available for the Trans Alp.
Will they offer this in another Color like Red or White - the matte color blends in with the road too much. LOVE the Transalp just want a brighter color.
Can't go wrong with a Honda! Loving my new little Rally. A Transalp would be a great addition - cheers for the upload 😎👍
Looks like you’re really enjoying the bike! My conspiracy theory is that the early reviewers were giving poor reviews so they can make sure the bike was available for them and friends LOL! Like my two bike setup but getting really interested in this bike! Awesome job!
This is really looking like a great bike. I was pretty skeptical when it was announced.
You and me both!
Keep doing you - appreciate your content! 🤙
Great test ride. After serious looking around. I ended up trading in my 2013 vstrom dl650a. Honda where I live won't take anything but zhonda trades.. went elsewhere andt est rode a CF Moto IBEX 800 T. Comes with everything. Tires suck so first thing to replace. Really enjoyed getting it dirty on my test so ended up buying it. Don't know if you have ever ridden one before. Fuel mapping is redone and much better. On road its so fast.
Another great video. Thank you for making such great content! Also I wish I had such awesome riding areas like you do. Thanks for sharing!!
Hey, at least without a skid plate it will be easier to clean the mud off of the oil sump :)
So like do you end the video and keep talking to yourself??😂😂😂❤❤
Hail yes! (and Go Rangers!)
Call that off road 😂 my drive way has more challenges than that road you took. Great to listen to you…great personality. Cheers.
WOW, Huge buildings. I think you're xt250 sounds quieter and smoother , with the 16th tooth Sprocket at higher rpms.
Ok I am way more convinced. Like you, when the specs came out I was thinking a big miss by Honda, but now I am with you. It will do everying I need and have the talent for. Love your banter as you ride it really adds to the video. I beleive your reviews more than Big Rocks since he seems to proclaim a bike is the best and then 2 months later it drops down on his list.
Ian is just a giant motorcycle nerd! He's generally got good things to say about most bikes while not shying away from being honest about shortcomings. I find his reviews very thoughtful and well balanced.
Also, so many bikes have entered the ADV market over the last few years and they keep getting better. The new RE Himalayan is also looking like a huge improvement over the current model. So nice to have so many choices now.
Man I was worried you were going in on the Mixtours! That would be something to see!
I'm doing my first off-road ride tomorrow on the stock dunflop mixtours. I'll let you know how good...or bad they are....😅
The trails out there can get slick especially 11 if you can get that back through those I will be considering getting this Honda
I sold my 750GS when my son was born almost ten years ago and the itch has been getting BAD. And now you're supercharging it. LOL And eff the naysayers, thanks for TALKING.
Excellent video, dude! 😄👍✌️
Love the review, I've been wanting to get back on 2 wheels, currently on a can am ryker that I ride offroad as well as highway, 22k in 4 yrs and had 3 major surgeries along the way, and have always been interested in adventure bikes.... being short myself this bike may suit me just fine.... also been checking the tiger out !!!
Your narration is what makes your videos interesting and a joy to watch. How about a video on washing the mud off the bike. Do you use a pressure washer or the old fashioned bucket of soapy water and low pressure hose?
Damn, great video. I’m impressed with the bike. Just sold my atas. Im excited to see a mid weight that can do trails but still be comfortable on road. Very cool.
Great video! Cool to see a stock bike like this on ATV trails, especially one that I thought of as more of a road focused Adventure bike. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested to know how you feel it compares to the Tenere, as that seems to be a more explicitly off-road focused machine.
Anyone else hoping that there's an aftermarket company that makes a different oil pan to remove that massive sump spot? Im assuming that its designed in that way to help with maintenance and draining the oil. Im curious to see it off the bike to see if there is actually something mechanical under there that would prevent that from being a real world application.
Enjoying the content! Love the real world riding applications that you are putting the bike through. The riding you did in this video is very similar to the riding that Ill be doing, so its confidence inspiring straight away, without even having the bike in my garage yet!
Thanx for this.
Impressive stuff without any protection on the Alp.
Bravery or Stupidity ?
The Power Of Dreams ❤
Bravery and stupidity are just two sides of the same coin ;)
And no one pregnant…
I imagine others have told you that Pro-Link is just Honda’s TM for their rear linkage, nothing to do with the shock. I’d imagine the shock is a basic Showa since Honda owns controlling interest in Showa
I miss you having a hard time on those same trails on much smaller bikes. glad to see you have grown.
Great vid man! Love riding up Snotgun (funny). Glad your enjoying the new bike. The camera does really flatten things out. That first hill climb in the video is a steep road with quite a bit of loose rocks, very fun ride!
Thank you for independently verifying the steepness ;)
Please don't change! We don't want techy. We want the dork!!
Couldn't if I wanted to
I think you've sold me on an adventure bike. I wanna start with the cb500x and trade in my harley! Those trails look oddly familiar! Do you have a video talking about tire selection for a 50/50 road/offroad tire?
I really like how you review motorcycle and gear as the “Everyman motorcyclist.” You don’t come across as pretentious and give your opinion as an experienced riders, but not a professional.
My favorite moto channel on UA-cam
If you ever find yourself in the Smokey Mountains let me know, we’ll go ride!
I recently put my KLR650 down on a familiar dirt road that they had 2 days before put a thick layer of sand and gravel on and no warning signs. Anyway, had hard panniers on which did a ton of damage. Totalled the bike. My wife let me buy a 2016 Africa Twin so not sad. Just saying I will always have soft bags from now on, period. Maybe an idea for content. Don't wreck your bike to test anything. I can send pics though.
Hey Shotgun creek! Was there the past two weekends. I’d be interested to see how the transalp does on trail 10 coming downhill, uphill is tough on a proper dirt bike forget an adv but my friend took his 2023 klr650 down there bone stock and did surprisingly well. Keep up the great content
pro tip. keep the traction control on low setting. you will have better results on slippery uphill sections
What did people do before traction control existed? :-) Honestly, it's more impressive that Ben sailed through most of that using only subtle throttle & clutch control along with momentum.
Seems to be pretty intrusive on this bike. You've had a different experience.
amazing trail!
You should have called this video “Honda Transalp 750: That’s What She Said”. There’s enough justification for it within the first 3mins 😂
Ya! Make lemonade buddy! 😂😂😂Good one. Keep on talkin' man. That's what makes your channel so good. Right on!👍
fun and direct video without too many irrelevant details - but more - how does the bike make you feel - yeah more of that.
Stickers add 10 hp and 5 skill points each
😂😂
These TransAlp rides are really fun and informative. This bike or the Suzuki 800DE will be my next bike, maybe!
Same... I have the Vstrom 650 and I love it, but I've always been a Honda guy. It will be a tough choice
Thank you. I'm very glad to hear it.
Me too, exact same decision! The Aprilia Tuareg 660 is so tempting, but too pricey.
I heard that Honda did a film shoot near me last Friday on 11 Transalp bikes. We were out riding the same forest service roads that day but didn't see them. I have to wait for the commercial.
Havent ridden a transalp yet but not super excited about how things are done underneath. Not a fan of the tft either. 800de for me.
Thanks Ben. You're the man.
Thanks for another epic and fun ride!
I put only 1 outback motortek sticker on my rally. now it wants to turn. saved the other for the tool box lid.
I had crossed this bike off of my list. After watching your videos and Big Rock Moto's videos, I have it on my list again. It looks to be far more capable than people are giving it credit for. I almost bought a Transalp this past weekend, but I really hate to spend that kind of money right now. I'm going to wait a couple months and see what kind of deals are out there. I'm having a hard time deciding which motorcycle I want, so I'm probably going to buy the one I can get the best deal on.
Yeah I thought I wasn't going to like it but riding it is changing my mind.
Just curious, why was it crossed off your list without you even laying eyes on it?
@@kevincrockett5155 That's a good question. I watched a few videos that kinda talked it down. The ground clearance and perceived lack of off road ability were issues in my mind. I saw what Dork and BRM were saying and thought I would give the Transalp a chance. I rode one this past Saturday and really liked it. As Dork stated, it has more ground clearance than some other bikes. A bash guard would alleviate my concerns.
Ian and Ben are NOT helping me with my plan to wait a couple more years before upgrading my CB500X to a TA! 😊 I'm realizing that a TA will do everything I want to do, or can frankly handle, with an ADV bike.
I test rode a brand new, out the box, Transalp. I was very impressed with the motor. I didn’t do any off road riding but it felt lite and very flickable. I was disappointed to see black paint chipped off when being commissioned it into service. It’s a great midrange bike.
Not being able to leave traction control and ABS off and having to redo that sequence every time I shut the bike off is a complete deal breaker after dealing with it on my Tiger 800.
Didn't even get to watch before I liked it. But, I have faith in you!!!
Ok, I watched! The more I see of this one the more I like it.
I love how much you love this bike
Awesome video as usual. :-). If you’re not on pavement it’s off road is it not? LOL. Bike seem to do great on the single track stuff considering the tires. Not sure how saturated the market will be in So Cal but the dealers are acting like they are going to be super rare and adding ADM to the point it’s almost the same Out The Door as a standard KTM 890 (KTM here doesn’t mark the bikes up). I’m sure that’s very frustrating for folks here in the market for one.
