This is actually the #1 reason Em is the GOAT:
he went DIAMOND before UA-cam and spotify made it ridiculously easy to get music out. When radio wouldn't play his music, stores wouldn't carry his albums, venues not letting him have concerts in some states, & there were protest marches to censor him. HE STILL WENT DIAMOND. I was a teenager when Shady started & it's hard to describe the fuckery that came with him. He definitely had the world's attention.
soooo much fuckery...and he went diamond when everyone was stealing music on lime wire and Napster!! still couldn't take him down!
Facts! Eminem's lyrics were controversial af. What fucked with the world's minds eye the most was the insanely clever rhyme scheme and undeniable intellect behind the songs. If he wasn't so potent with his literary techniques and vivid storytelling he would have been ICP or any other shock value gimmick artist. The fact that he had to be taken seriously was what scared the general public and politicians so much. Fuck a 🐐. He is the Rap God.

East European here. The first ever cassette I got was The Slim Shady LP, when I was 6 after I had listened to some Eminem at my cousin’s. My mom bought it for me. Neither she nor I knew what was he rapping about, but his music was so powerful.

Took me way back with this one!! I remember when it came out, it was all face palming and drop jaws when we heard this shit and when we found out he was white everybody was like wtf...hell no! He got major fans that day (and I'm black from a hood area and alot of us listened to Em, no matter what nobody say!). And he became my daughter's favorite rapper!

I just took a trip down memory lane. I remember being 11 years old watching the Hi, My Name is video on TRL and I was completely mesmerized. He was charismatic and witty. Been a fan of Eminem ever since. Great reaction/breakdown 👍🏼

When this first came out I missed it. First Eminem I heard was watching TRL when I was 8 years old and then The Real Slim SHady played and that little trl video clip penetrated my soul and I Was instantly obsessed I made my mom buy his cd put my thumb over that parental advisory sticker, hahah she thought Eminem was some boy band like Nsync I put the cd in the car and public service annoucmment played and she ejected that shit so fast and took the cd from me and told me Hell no was I listening to that. The second she was gone I went on a hunt in her room for that cd and when I found it I just took the cd and left the case because I knew as long as she saw the case where she put It she would think it was there. I listen to that album over and over except for Kim I would skip that one because it scared the shit out of me. hahah Now I think Kim is one of his best songs to show that much emotion it seriously feels like a real fight between him and kim you can picture the whole thing in your head as he raps. Oh duh the most talented part of that song is it all rhymes your making your crazy murder fight with kim a song that rhynes perfectly. like wtf? Its a masterpiece I think. I love Eminem He will always be my favorite I feel like he raised me in a way. I wish Proof would have never been killed because that really changed Eminem to never be the same and he never rapped the same again. You can see the shift in his sound and everything changed right after proof died. so sad.Eminem has got Amaziing with his speed and double meaning bars but I honestly prefer not to have to listen over and over to catch everything he said because it was too fast and I dont like having to really think about his bars to understand them I just LOve Eminem sayings stuff in a normal speed and just rapping about relatable shit and I really miss him being vulgar and offensive as fuck. take drugs rape sluts make fun of gay clubs...…..fire
yesssss!! when I heard kim on the marshal Mathers lp I was in shock lol...its literally an offbeat conversation that is on beat and rhymes but you don't even really notice the rhymes because you are too into the song!! damn that song is so eerie and horrific and amazing at the same times lol. and yeah the huge shift in music after proof. he started rapping in a very aggressive tone of voice and super complex. cant even imagine loosing a brother like that. new em isn't as relatable but he's gone through shit most cant relate to anyway. Plus, he's older now...he cant be trying to stir shit up like he could when he was 24. just comes off as annoying if he did

I'm from Denver Colorado and I've noticed he's mentioned Denver or Colorado many times through the years. I was 8 when Slim Shady LM came out. I remember I had a pirated version on a tape cassette. I obviously didn't understand 90% of the lyrics, because my first language isn't English, but I loved it probably because of the rhymes, the flow, the beats. It was a hell of a ride understanding more and more verses as I learned English throughout the years. Now, I can understand everything and even though I'm not catching every bar the way you do, I still think I'm above average and really good for a none native speaker.

Shit, Eminem (and the Bloodhound Gang) is the music of my childhood. I am now listening to 90% metal but he is still one of the few hiphop artists I come back to (although his newer stuff is hit or miss)
