It is now 9:29 p.m. CST, February 12, 2023. I'm getting real right now with MY life and life itself. I'm 68yrs old, born August 20, 1954. Why am I doing this? I've been watching Linda's Mariachi over and again when she was younger. Mesmerized, of course. I knew in my mind she's much older and has a type of Palsy that's similar to Parkinson and can no longer perform now, because of it. I knew that....but saw the REALITY of it in an NBC interview 3mos ago. I just finished watching the video a little bit ago. My...how time flies by. At my age, 68, EVERY entertainer I grew up watching....be it Actor/Actress.....Musicians/Singers.....etc. ........are either dead, or at the dying age. Linda Ronstadt looks good, but as an older woman now. She's 76. Her hair is totally gray....she hasn't colored it. I think that's genuine of her. She's who she is. It's a struggle for her to eat the way she shakes. Her and the reporter interviewing her were eating a meal that she cooked in her home....her recipes from her growing up days. It's sad, but she remains upbeat. This SHORT life has it share of life on life's terms. Thank God for the videos that have captured the Mariachis and everything else she's ever done in her younger life. God Bless Her!!
To hear record company executives warning her that doing this would destroy "what was left of her career" reminds us how she left their limited thinking in the dust and knocked it out of the park yet again.
Okay, I've decided that Linda Ronstadt is the greatest female vocalist of all time. Just breathtaking range, power, control, and versatility. There's never been and never will be anyone like her.

The 31st Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 22, 1989 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. They recognized accomplishments by musicians from the previous year. The album Canciones de Mi Padre was released in late 1987 and quickly became a smash hit. It stands as the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history. The title Canciones de Mi Padre refers to a booklet that the University of Arizona published in 1946 for Linda's deceased aunt, Luisa Espinel, who had been an international singer in the 1920s. The songs come from Sonora and Linda included her favorites on the album. She has credited the late Mexican singer Lola Beltrán as an influence in her own singing style, and she recalls how a frequent guest to the Ronstadt home, Eduardo "Lalo" Guerrero, father of Chicano music, would often serenade her as child with these songs. From 1984 to 1991 the award was known as Best Mexican-American Performance. From 1992 to 1994 it was awarded as Best Mexican-American Album. In 1995 it returned to the title Best Mexican-American Performance. From 1996 to 1998 it was awarded as Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance.

Her father who was a Mexican-American in Arizona used to sing these types of songs to her as a little girl. As a tribute to him, she recorded the album "Canciones de Mi Padre" or songs of my father. She was helped by a remarkable musician and song writer, Ruben Blades because she needed help with the words and phrases in Spanish. Ruben was behind the title song of a wonderful movie starring J-Lo and Marc Anthony by the name of "El Cantante" (the singer).

Fellow Americans, here you have a clear example of our deep Mexican roots. Remember that much of our southwest territory was previously Mexican territory. These are very well Native American roots.
Of the songs from her Spanish language collection this is probably the hardest to sing live. She could have sung any of the others but she chose the one with the most impact. Risky move that paid off.

I know she had an awful lot of help throwing it together but the effort to put the road show together made an album more like a cinematic event, really great dedication.
@@tjwash2 So good to see your post. Always enjoy your insights and observations. Thought of all of Ms. Ronstadt's admirers on July 15th, her 75th birthday. Her resilience is remarkable.
She brought the Light to theTradicional Mexicano Music. I was about 7 or 8 years old when I met her. she said that she admired Lola Beltran and that she is the basis for her singing but also, she said that her dream was to sing Mexican regional music because she loved that music growing up, just look at her face filled with happiness and joy at 1:32
I did not appreciate her until I heard "Songs of my Father." REMARKABLE SINGER.
When people say YAZ QUEEN they talking about her, truly the greatest all around female voice of all time. I dare some1 to name a better female all around singer.
Can’t name one, because there isn’t anyone who even comes close to Linda’s voice, versatility and convictions.
Strongly agree
I agree. #2 would be Karen Carpenter.
Mexicanos on 'x', no 'j', gracias!
Menso cowboys? Vaqueros ojete
This woman's musical versatility is nothing short of Awesome. 💙😎
God broke the mold when he made her. No one will ever come close to her. One of a kind.✊🏾🇲🇽❤️😊
Linda's voice will reign forever supreme and the woman forever amazing.
I believe this music came from her Spanish album. It is admirable and awe-some and brave and truly inspirational that she put it out to the world to say "this is who I am" when it was not so accepted to do so.
*Spanish language album
And the albums where “Canciones de mi padre” and “Más Cacniones” which btw the first is the highest selling Spanish language album of all time
La
That's what makes linda linda her bravery as an artist and as a person in addition to the two Mexican cds she recorded another cd in spanish called frenesi this cd is in the cuban style and as usual linda sings her ass off I adore this woman I have every thing she recorded including bootlegs of concerts that she did
Stop victimizing us. You can flush that Lantinx bs as well. We dont need your help, we were banging shit out at the grammys in the 80s
Stunning... Ms. Linda... you don't know me but i kept praying for your recovery... there's no impossible in GOD ... am begging HIM, to give you back your golden voice and heals you from PD... GOD be with you always...
This woman could do anything
unless sing in a tangible Spanish
Woke up to this as a kid every Saturday morning. It was the best!
Her voice is blasting the audience out of their chairs no doubt
Facts 🎉😂
Fellow Americans, here you have a clear example of our deep Mexican roots.
Remember that much of our southwest territory was previously Mexican territory.
These are very well Native American roots.
Brilliant one of a kind this is once in a life time
Linda has been and still is one of the finest talented singers this world has ever seen. She sings with a passion straight from the heart .we love you always xxxx bless you girl xxx
Yees.... Goosebumps all over. My eyes tear up with her singing.!
Of the songs from her Spanish language collection this is probably the hardest to sing live. She could have sung any of the others but she chose the one with the most impact. Risky move that paid off.
Linda has a voice, face & aura of an angel!
A real great singer ever, one of the mexican queen to sing música ranchera, in Mexico we love her a lot, ¡ Viva la linda Linda!
Viva Alemania y Mexico!!!!!
Totally agree with you..she is one of the best there is..thanks Linda for such beautiful performances
I have that CD, when CANCIONES DE MI PADRE (songs of my father) came out. This Lady is a treasure. HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH!!!!!!! Biden, Linda needs to be up there with our own CESAR CHAVEZ.
Goes without saying how spectacular her voice is, but what made viewing this so gratifying was her obvious joy in singing it. Thank you for unearthing this fantastic performance. Kudos as well to the musicians, dancers, and the "lassoist!"
Don't forget the composer, herself.
She brought the Light to theTradicional Mexicano Music. I was about 7 or 8 years old when I met her. My dad's mariachi was backing her in a city and I was touring with my dad that summer just hanging out and she said come here, I love your cheeks, he has such beautiful cheeks and she pinched the shit out of my face LOL.
OMG at the 1989 grammys?? You show ‘em queen!! luv Bonnie Raitt’s reaction at the end lol
Ms. Ronstadt's 75th today. Her practical personality and grit keeps her going...plus being a mom to two adult children! So blessed to still have her among us.
"Nick of Time" one of my favorite albums. These two women go back a long way and remember the early days just trying to "get a gig" and a record label to take you on. Bet Bonnie was proud-and still awed-by her old friend.
Bonnie: “can you believe this? She’s incredible!”
Me sorprendió. Tiene una voz hermosa. Además ella es muy bella. Sólo al oirle la adoro.
Y mas sorpriente porque Ella no habla
Espanol en su vida.
I heard that she would only record with the best mariachi in the world. Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Jalisco Mexico
Glad to be a Vargas. My father was a mariachi from tecalitlan Jalisco. My ancestors were the founders of the Mariachi Vargas in 1897.
You can tell she's not just doing these songs as a gimmick. She shows that they mean something to her and she nails the vocals.
OMG, love her voice and her ability to use her vocal chords, I wish we had talent in Mexico like hers, but sadly now days most music is performed by pseudo artists not just ranchero but any musical generes
Hermosa Voz,linda,Gran intérprete,Un Gran Álbum,Canciones de mi Padre,Viva linda, Viva México y su música, gran Herencia CULTURAL
A VERY PERSONAL VERSION. By Greatest hit.
Linda Ronstand.🇲🇽🇺🇸🇨🇦👀📓🧥📡
No one has come close to her vocal greatness and talent. Once in a lifetime icon.
I love her rock and her country and her new wave and standards and her Gilbert and Sullivan, but this is what she was born to do.
Linda has always said that"Spanish is for Singing and English is for speaking".
Siempre quise felicitarla sea Linda Rodnstan hermosas interpretaciones mexicanas
the look on Bonnie Raitt's face at the end.
Bonnie looked like she was totally amazed!
What an absolute bloody legend! 🇲🇽
J'adore ! Bravo et merci !
her voice is the first sweet smell of roses in the spring
Que bien canta esta Linda
👏👏👏👏👏👏❤🇨🇱
Went to see her perform in Texas
She was promoting this album. I couldn't understand a word was singing
but throughly enjoyed the concert.
I cld just feel the emotions of the songs
Great to see most of the comments are in English, it's a bit like, we in Mexico appreciate MJ, and you can appreciate Linda Ronstandt....
Great, great singer for all of us.
