I am not an Indian but I understand what you mean when u say it's misinformed and offensive and I agree with u IT'S FUCKING AWESOME. Can't get enough of Devendra, and Carmensita in particular.
This is one of the most beautiful as well as one of my favourite tracks of ALL time!! It reminds me of when I first listened to it on fm radio on my headphones whilst cycling on a sunny, sunny day in Copenhagen with hundreds of cyclists everywhere. Just beautiful!!
Natalie Portman makes a great Bollywood vamp. Awesome, really catchy song. Loved the whole package, and will be looking out for Devendra Banhart from now on.
It's not making fun of Hindu Mythology, they're making fun of themselves and Bollywood more than anything else. This is like someone made a Bollywood movie in the 70s. Groovy. Love it.
I've seen Bollywood films exactly like this! And even Bollywood knows they have some silly and cheesy conventions, and aren't afraid to admit it. Apparently, since India has several major languages, is why there's lots of dancing and colour. Now most Indians can speak English, but in the past other Indian languages were incomprehensible to most other people, and it's a big country. They could dub a film into local versions, but often just released it in Hindi and everyone else could just appreciate the dancing and the music, and figure out the plot from the very exaggerated actions and facial expressions. It was a clever way to build a national film industry without lots of money, back then. Including Hindu legends and characters that everybody knew also made it much more understandable for people who didn't understand the dialogue.
I've been searching for this song for years. It was on my iPod but then it broke and I couldn't remember this song for the life of me. And today it just randomly pops up in my feed, wtf lol. I knew this song would find it's way back to me, things just take time 🙏🏼
he is just gifted!!! don't even try to understand what he is singing about! he is like an abstract painter: only he can understand what he's painted :) You're great one!
Man... With this song I meet the love of my life, ""Mi amor envuelto en tu corazón, no lo sueltes por favor, somos semejantes, serpientes, elefantes, tomando aguardiente en el sol...." we were on this trip on a Beach on acid listening to this song with some mezcal and good friends, I never felt so alivie in my life, When i finally have the brave to kiss her I realy felt like "she was the one" deeply in my heart... We spent the most beautiful 7 years of my life, but then life is what life is... and she just go in other direction. I still miss her sometimes, I'm not in touch with her anymore but I really think that if she is happy, then I'm happy to :D
I remember back in Denmark during summer '12 I was on my bicycle on my way home back from my office listening to my mp3 on headphones and this came up while I was riding away in the city of Copenhagen it was the most beautiful experience ever :).
I thought this video was shot in Venezuela until I saw Natalie Portman. He sings with a strong Venezuelan Spanish accent.

Dude, ALL Bollywood films used to be like this, a few decades ago. Either the colour grading or the film stock made the colours stick out of the screen! And the plots usually weren't much more sensible. There's a whole world of drug-free psychedelia awaiting you, my brother!
A venezuelan man with an Israeli-American actress she is world renowned... amazing, i just learned!
very special guest star indeed :) both video and song lots of fun. Listened to his brilliantly dark and weird album Rejoicing in the Hands... recently, great. also Silver Set Of Bones by Karl Culley; stripped down acoustic darkness.

The first 55 seconds of this song should be extended into a full length track, its so chill.
Search "Ntlisten Secrets" on youtube. Enjoy!
VPD I just put it in my Watch Later section 😉

honestly, it's been 13 years since I first heard it in my Junior Year of HS & it's still one of my favorite songs from Devendra.

this is sad but yes i understand happiness for another is happiness for ones self
Beautifully put my friend
The realness of life can be so beautiful, but yet so painful at times. Although the question now is, are you really happy?
@Morocho Vallecitos so are men not polygamous by nature?
Me encantó!
The coolest guitar solo and smoothest tune since 1999 I was there I lived through it and still persist I'm a bit of a mad thing...
I actually got to watch this live and it was excellent, what a jam
Since I knew about Devendra I've got this song in my mind...

I heard this song once four years ago and have been searching for it ever since. Thanks for randomly suggesting this to me, UA-cam.

Fantastic, I love it, don't ask me why! Devendra and his work belong to another dimension.

Ramayan with a couple of interesting twists and adaptations.. cool. love this guys' music.
Maravilla. Músico incomprendido
I can’t believe this song is in a Stella Artois commercial now, in 2024. Who’s here from a decade ago?
Ok I came to UA-cam to confirm I was hearing it right ! Thank you for confirming! lol
I came from Stella Artois commercial. How come I allways discover best, most incredible songs from commercial.Dunno but I I love it

Watch some old, low budget Bollywood
Even in 240p she is gorgeous ... That is how beautiful Natalie Portman is :) !
I thought this video was shot in Venezuela until I saw Natalie Portman. He sings with a strong Venezuelan Spanish accent.
Yeah that's cos Devendra is from Venezuela. Viva Venezuela!
Por supuesto foi muito inspirado nessa música
RIP to all 2006 - 2010 indie kids, the forgotten subculture

O dile que tienes dolor de cabeza!
♥
nossa muito bom esse som !!!!!
Romania loves you guys!!
He's so crazy. Amazing talent, I love it !
Ay tu primo colorado
Con barba camburada
Y lleno de ballena
Inclinadose al sol
Ay tu rayo de luz roja
Besando nuestra boca
El beso que te sopla
Sabe a Pampero
Ay tus tres ojos lunares
Extraterrestriales
Entran quando sales
Por eso no se ven
Ay tu barba colorada
Traviesa y rebelde
Me afeito con espada
Pero devuelve
La la la la la la...
Si la noche te persigue
Entrégate a ella
O dile que tienes dolor de cabeza
Sombrita de reflejo
Dame algo tierno
Me como tu amor
Y cago el infierno
Adio, adio, adio
Primo granje
Hola Bernardo...
La la la la la la la...
Ay tus ojos colorados
Azul y anaranjados
Amarillo verde y marrón
Mi amor envuelto en tu corazón
No lo sueltes por favor
Somos elefante y serpiente semejante
Tomando aguardiente
En el sol
De una flor...
La la la la la la la...
"El beso que te sopla
Sabe a Pampero" = "El beso que te sopla
Huele a alcohol"
Pampero en Venezuela es un RON😁

This is probably the best acting I've ever seen out of Natalie Portman!
Me cautivó la voz de este hombre!
It'd be nice to have this re-uploaded in half-decent quality, there's lots more we'd be able to see properly if they did.

In case that you don´t speak spanish don't worry, the lyrics are as non-sense as the video.
just as the majority of english songs
Well, thanks kkk
I feel the video make more sense than the lyrics
Both have a lot of sense for me makes me laugh. And feel some madness.
Wtf, it does have sense, what are you talking about?
