I passed out Waterloo Company 12 months after this. Drill is excellent. Short, sharp, and shit hot! It's crazy to look back and think we did this at 16 years old.
I also passed out in 1989 June 22nd. Waterloo company 5 platoon. I was stick orderly. I absolutely loved every single minute of my 1st year training. I will never forget my time as a Grenadier. I left in 1996. Wokery was starting to tear its ugly head back then. Things were starting to change. Wars became about elitism’s business ventures and NOT about our Queen and Our country.
Drill and turnout was excellent. I joined the army at 15, not in the Jnr Leaders or the household Div but the jnr Para Coy. We didn’t concentrate on drill as much as the Guards but on physical fitness and toughening up. You did not get issued your beret but had to earn it which wasn’t easy lol But a great life for a young man
I was in the Junior Musicians Wing, Pirbright from 1969 and we used to see the Paras training sometimes during PT at the hill/rough country area. Used to scare the life out of us!
2:25 Sport the nest head avoiding the camer. Shifty bugger. 5:17 Speaking as a former RSM, that is some cracking drill. Those arms are near perfect. And they're not even the troops passing out. Then you see the lads passing out and . . . wow. That halt was superb. I always considered myself a field soldier more than a drill and duties guy, so viewed drill as a necessary evil, but always liked to get it right whenwe had to do it. These guys are spot on. Great effort.
Well that was Guards drill as I remember it. And from Juniors as well. You don't see that kind of crisp drill from the Guards these days. They're almost slovenly.
Started basic in June 89'. Every chance I was a sprog at the back, watching. The drill is spot on. Change direction, change arms at 31 mins...difficult.
The junior leaders did 12 months down the depot as opposed to senior recruits who only did 6 and I think this is why their drill is spot on. Poor beggars imagine having to do a full year down the depot.
Jolly good carry on.. Jeez the WO2 looks awfully young for his rank. Next question why is there a Cpls within the ranks, shouldn't they be on the flanks.
@petshopboy827 Johnstone was his name, good lad and met him a few times over the years when I either joined them on civpop or operations, including the troop
Sadly, like everything else standards have dropped even for the guards and as for the Royal horse artillery and lifeguards. They may as well change their name to the girl guides as they have that many in it.

The inspecting officer was my first colonel when i joined The Life Guards back in 1974.
Sir Simon Cooper.
Wow I was there 1972 seems like a million years ago.

Same....(Greeny).
My passing out parade
Wonder when they changed the Junior NCO stripes , used to be like normal NCO stripes with a red backing
well I was a squad leader at CATERHAM 1954 and the only stripe I had was half of one on my left cuff of my bd
Wound stripe!

I lived my years training at the depot
Drum sergeant of grenadier guards leading band of the Coldstream guards 💂♀️🇬🇧
And mine, when I joined the Life Guards in 74 !!
I'm impressed to see passing out students acting as warrant officers.
And not a single bit of pc box ticking in the ranks either!
That's correct.. this was my passing out.. so many years ago now
Anyone else count 5678 and break in to quick time. JlR RAC used to have magnificent pass outs.

What's the music played throughout the parade?
Good
Lads and everyone an emperor.
great to see good drill it is not like this any more
Why is one wearing a Glen Garry rather than the standard Guards Cap?
Yes I was wondering that too. To stand out as the marker maybe?
Forage cap probably at the tailor's or couldn't find one to fit
He is a piper and still serving today 35 years on
