Except for the whole "heat raises the conductivity", We are talking about metals here. Heat lowers the conductivity of metal and cold raises it which is why we cool superconducters with liquid helium. Water however gains conductivity with an increase of temperature.
One of the biggest brain speedrun tricks I remember was during a SimCity run at gdq. The runner wanted to actually run a different game, but the organizers wouldn't let him or something, so he did SimCity instead. There's a point in the SimCity run where you just plain wait for the game to complete, so he did his original game during that entire wait.
14:34 that happened to somebody, a guy named darkviper au spent like 2 full years developing strategies and runs to beat gta 5 without taking damage and recently some guy swooped in and got the first no damage run
Yeah I remember seeing a post about "the first speedeunner to beat gta with no damage" and I got hyped cause I thought darkviper finally got it, just to realize it wasn't him
Quick guess for the Goldeneye one: The developers probably had some sort of failsafe against the chip/controller being damaged or whatever short circuit was happening as a result of it. It probably paused the in game physic/time until the problem was resolved. However, in most game engines, there are two clocks. The one that takes the physics of the world into account (FixedUpdate in Unity) and the one that runs every frame no matter what (the Update in Unity). So probably the objective was wrongfully coded on the "every frame" clock. I have been told by a speedrunning friend that this kind of exploit of tick vs physics is attempted in a lot of games to try to mess up the game and do crazy glitches, but it's still crazy that the setup for this one is to press down on the exposed chip of a second controller lmao Note: this explanation is a simplification of the concept, it doesn't exactly work as described in my comment, but the principle is there.
Alot of these setups are found via reverse engineering not just trial and error. They are widely reversed / documented generally using some form of code execution. Still very insane but these games have been scoured through line by line by many people
I find it particularly annoying that he says "I don't understand how they figure this out" on the Paper Mario one, considering that *entire* video is explaining *how* they figured it out.
8:13 looks like this guy didn't take highschool physics, or even read his own graph. Heating components REDUCES conductivity lmao, it doesn't make it more conductive like he says. This is why we super cool super conductors...
@Atrioc For the Goldeneye thing I think someone probably raged after realizing he would've gotten a new record if it wasn't for the waiting time, threw his plugged in controller, broke it, hit that exact spot and noticed it somehow skipped and then just reverse engineered from there
I've seen a TAS run where they use the game itself to write new code into the game to create functioning networking software *_for a console that does not natively have the ability to connect to the internet_* to download a custom operating system for the console, after which they proceed to use all of that to load and play an emulator for an entirely different game from an entirely different console, then proceed to just sorta run a glitch exhibition spanning a few different games. some GDQ exhibitions are just plain insane in the best way.
@@Bob13454 no idea, I just remember that it was a GDQ glitch exhibition. lesse...the game in question _might_ have been a mario game (it wasn't part of the video for more than a few seconds so kinda fair that I don't remember if I can't remember the title) ...can't remember what console, reasonably sure it _was_ a console though so probably nes or n64? especially if actually mario. I think the makeshift internet was achieved through setting it up to send/read power supply fluctuations and possibly some further pre-prepped shenanigans on the rest of the hardware/software involved to make it so the router could actually interpret it.
The golden eye skip is easy to execute with a uniform result but is an added expense and inconvenience so imo it kind of just artificially takes time off a Speedrun
