I’d say the US is in distress
Any country that elects a reality TV star with zero political experience to lead it is clearly in distress.

Former Marine here, it is a sign that the fort/base has been either overrun or is in distress. I'm 48, never heard of the other explanations.

I’m sorry. Is there an epidemic of flag burning that has taken over America? Fact, insurrectionists overran the Capitol on 1/6/21. Can we at least agree these people are criminals and not heroes? The members or the Supreme Court have the same constitutional rights as everyone else. Placing the flag upside down is a statement of his opinion. Placing the flag upside down is an indication that the country is in distress and needs help.
Only that justice cannot be blind if the conscious of the court is not clear. If you cannot place politics aside and rule down the middle. The purpose of the court is lost.

There have been many conservative justices that I have respected, topping the list would be justice Scalia. Justices Alito and Thomas can only dream of being as respected as much as Judge Scalia.

That's the reason Roe v Wade got removed. It wasn't because they were conservative judges, it's because it was unconstitutional.
@@garyszewc3339 What logic is that? Roe was overturned on a 5-4 vote. So there are five constitutional scholars and four who felt it should stay? In ‘73, the vote was 7-2 for Roe. In ‘92 it was 5-4 for Roe with conservative Sandra Day O’Connor as the swing vote. This is all about politics and not about the constitution.

The justices are also expected to follow a code of ethics unlike the average American. Should we not hold our Supreme Court Justices to a higher standard of behavior than the average person? The Supreme Court Code of Ethics directly states that Justices are expected to avoid any activities that would lead people to question the judge's impartiality. Flying the flag upside down is incredibly inappropriate for one of the highest members of our government to do, especially if his provided excuse was to make a passive aggressive gesture to his neighbor. At the very least it shows incredibly poor judgement on his part.

They are expected to abide by an ethics code, including avoiding any activities that lead to concerns of bias or impartiality. Flying the flag upside down around the time of Jan 6th is at the very least incredibly suspicious and beneath the ethical standards placed upon the justices.

It's a violation of the Supreme Court's Code of Ethics. Supreme Court Justices are held to a higher standard of behavior. He can fly the flag upside down all he wants, but I question his judgement and impartiality in regards to Trump and he should recuse himself for engaging in said freedom of speech.

@@CharlesWinters-ie3jy Ukraine postponed their presidential election sometime this week for the foreseeable future. While I understand that there's a war going on right now over there, even during the War of 1812, we never postponed our presidential election of the same year.
I also understand that there will great difficulty to hold such elections during this difficult time for the Ukrainian people and try to get them to vote. But their government could at least give it a try and maybe conduct their election online possibly. It will at least show to the Ukrainian people and to the world that their government care about democratic norms.

It's generally considered that it was a pretty close ruling, with several of those who voted in favor of it being on the fence, and if it was going to be a 5-4 decision, then one or more of them might have flipped to the other side of it instead. Once it was inevitable, why not go along with the majority? It was also believed that Alito was the one that leaked the draft decision to the press, which helped to lock in the conservatives votes, because if they had backed out after that it would have been a much bigger story for them.
