Great video. 8 or 9 of us go cycling in the Netherlands every year. We use the North Shields to Ijmuiden ferry. We have not been able to go for the last 2 years, COVID!!!!! but we have our fingers crossed for this year. I can recommend cycling down the east side of the River Vecht to Utrecht. Also the coastal route from Ijmuiden to Delft. In Delft try the Old Museum Hotel. If you ever stay in Edam try the Fortuna Hotel. We always use the “way point” numbered junctions. Best wishes.
So nice to see this video! Very familiar scenes as used to study in Leiden, commute daily by bicycle from Leidschendam (pancake scene) to Rijswijk (oversteekbrug), and regularly visit Delft and Zoetermeer. Even my kids recognized so much in this video :-)
Nice video! Tip, you can make a de-tour. Rozenburg - Ferry - Maassluis -Hoek van Holland and the Coastal bikepath to Den Haag - Wassenaar -Leiden. Verry nice dunes and sea views Keep Paddelinng/ Blijf Trappen
Lovely trip ! If you ever come back you might concider biking in the 'land of Maas and Waal' a very old area where you ride on very old dikes with immense widening landscapes. One of the world-wide unique landscapes of the Netherlands. And you might come across very old castels and fortified old towns. From west al the way to Nijmegen.
Glad you guys had fun! You went exactly to all the places and through all the routes I would have recommended as someone who lives in these parts. But I do have to agree that the hiviz and the helmet are a bit over the top. One of the freedoms we have here is being able to dress for the destination and not for the journey, even if you're going across the whole province.
I know… a lot of our Dutch friends tell us this, but we have to pedal through some towns before getting to Hull and the hi viz looks better for us in the court case when drivers say ‘I didn’t see you!’ Don
Theres actually a lot to do in Delft. The old and the new church are worth a visit. Theres the Prinsenhof, which was William the Silents residence, where he was infamously shot dead. Its a museum now. Theres lots of small shops and nice restaurants and cafés. And the university has some pretty interesting stuff, if you can get in. Theres a whole computer museum in the basement of the IT faculty. Lots of great architecture everywhere. And some really nice parks with lakes and beaches you can relax at.
You can also take the Beneluxtunnel to cross the Nieuwe Waterweg. The secundairy road or the special 'fietstunnel'. With elevators ... and the world's longest poem written in tiles on the side of the tunnel ... and being Dutch I feel I must mention ... it's free ;)
Very nice to see you cycling on all the routes that are so familiar to me and visiting places well known! I live in Delft and cycle a lot in these surroundings. I read somewhere in the comments that you live around the Humber, so you take the Hull ferry to Rotterdam. I've done that too: in August 2019 I cycled from Delft southwards along the coast, through Belgium up to Calais in France. There I took the ferry to Dover, and followed British National Cycle Routes more or less along the east coast up till the Humber and Hull. In the bird reserve of Humber/Hull I stayed a few nights. And from Hull I took the ferry back home. Cycling in Britain is certainly a bit more challenging than in the Netherlands: not so many good cycle paths, and what you call "flat" is quite hilly for a Dutch woman 😉, but the friendly reception by your felliw countrymen more than made up for this! I think you will agree with me that cycling is the ultimate way of travelling: you go slow enough to see each detail, and fast enough to cover a reasonable distance. And on top of that you get a nice work-out!
Thanks for this Tanja. Glad you came to England and visited my part of the world. There’s a town near us called New Holland, and one of the regions of Lincolnshire is called Holland. Its in the Fens around the Wash and is so flat it looks like its been crisply ironed😊 Don x
@@OldButElectrified Hi Cynthia, only now do I see your answer. And yes, on my cycle trip along the eastern English shore I passed through the Fens. Indeed it resembled the Dutch flat landscape 😄. I learned that in the 18th century a Dutch engineer had been hired to transform the then marshland there into "polders". So that explains the similarity!
LOL - I was wondering why the start looked strange to me [I've also cycled to Leiden via Delft] then I realised the Hull ferry docks on the opposite side of Het Scheur from the Harwich ferry, which I take. You guys look like you cycle like me...slow enough to enjoy the journey and the sights along the way. I do agree about the litter; it's one of the things that struck me _more_ on the return trip when setting off from Harwich - litter everywhere in England. You just don't see that in the Netherlands, do you? I'll be glad when they finally get Covid under control and I get get across again; plan to visit Utrecht this time [Leiden in 2019, Etten-Leur in 2018 and 's-Hertogenbosch via Dordrecht before that]. Unfortunately, my friend's idea of a long cycle ride is up to 2 miles LOL - I consider anything less than 10 to be hardly worth it.
i just don't understand why you are doing this on the most uncomfortable bikes ever built. Just buy an electric traditional transport bike with a 3 gear shift.

Lovely how you guys just use our country as a theme park for cycling. More people should do that.
Yep, I believe “Velo Paradiso is the old Anglo Saxon term for The Netherlands (?) Can’t wait to get back there. Roll on Springtime
Just makes you want to do another trip to the Netherlands!
Nice video.

Yeah but on the other hand you’ll look like a tourist anyways so I rather choose the helmet...

Great cycle journey through the Dutch west countryside 👍 Greatings from Holland.
Thanks Jacobus, you’re a star!
Love riding high it's an amazing experience ☺️

amazing vibes in this video
Thanks Lil’
You’re the sort of encouragement we need😇
Loved it ! You actually passed my place of birth (Maasland)
Brillant you stayed hundreds of yards where I live and traveled all the routes I ride towards Rotterdam, het Geertje is a goatfarm not a café tough
❤

Tanja, we could be sister and brother separated at birth.
There are pubs here still named ‘Vermuyden’

Hi Frank, yeah we all live near the Humber so the Hull ferry is ideal for us.
Don
That ferry is the Dog's!!!
next time roll the pancake up after applying sugar or sirup or whatever and slice it, it makes it better and easier to eat.
Never mind the red wine where's the coffee shops for a big joint 😀
Hello, where is that walkway that is operated with a crank?
Hi Valentin, its the Trekschuit ferry on the Vlaardingervaart 6km NE of Maasluis. Follow the Noordvliet out of town.😊
Don
Great video! I love cycling in the Netherlands. What strains of marijuana did you guys enjoy?
🤪 All of them!!!
Hows about the 26th of this month John?
Don
overstake bridge
😄😅👍
It’s a shame that people, especially drivers do not have any patients with cyclists and others in the U.K.
Why dont you use a proper Dutch bike? The one with a saddle and steer who keeps you straight up??
Good question Joop. I think its because we only have very short legs (unlike every Dutch person we’ve ever seen!)
do not trust the weatherman but look at www.buienradar.nl amsterdam
