Hi David I see no issue with top filling and I think some do this. I tend to use the factory filling points as this puts the oil straight into the correct reservoir position. Some areas especially in the top of the box may be expecting only a very fine oil spray, as the bulk of the oil will be in the bath below. By filling through the top the incoming oils path may take a large volume of oil into areas its not expected or designed to be. Just my thoughts Ian
Do the transfer box and the gearbox share the same fluid, I ask because I just added an overdrive and replaced the transfer box fluid. I had just replaced the gearbox fluid a few months ago. I could just check to see if it is filled to level.
What size are the square oil filler plugs and what did you use to remove them? The transfer box filler refuses to budge and I'm afraid of wearing the head without the right tool. Thanks!
I think it's a 1/2 square drive - but please check in the manual - do not use metric on an old Land rover as it will likely round off. Needs to be a tight fit.
Just checking the fluids for the first time on my newly acquired S2A and could not find the transfer box fill plug.
Thanks for this!👌👍
I like the pressure bottle idea. I'll use that, as I have a spare sprayer with a broken nozzle.
Thanks for posting this, very helpful, great idea with the garden sprayer.
Looks much easier without an overdrive in the way, haha!

No they normally all have separate reservoirs including the OD so you now have 3
