The part about the Rubrics Cube makes a lot of sense. Sometimes simplifying outcomes/possibilities doesn't help, yet hinders us and can narrow our view from see something that can be even more beneficial.

I really enjoyed thus Ted talk because James uses his past experiences as motivation and I also thought it was interesting on how he commented about communications getting deeper. It is true that change is within diversity.. its inevitable. This video correlates very well with my Global Management class!

He makes a lot of good points, especially the one about us all having bias. I feel this is an ever changing world and in order to stay prevalent you have to be sensitive to all others backgrounds and points of view. Understanding your way isn't always the best way, including others perspectives and thinking outside the box; I feel these are some ways to approach globalization. Through globalization we can learn and benefit so much from each other if we stay open minded.

I like that he talks about diversity not working at certain levels or in short periods of time. Anyone who is looking to diversify their staff needs to understand that different opinions may initially lead to some pushback, but given time to adjust and adapt, those differences will usually yield positive results. Globalization is something that definitely yields positive results, people just need to be aware of differences that they may have based on the culture they grew up in and how to adapt to what is needed.

A huge issue that globalization brings is racism. I'm glad that James talked about this problem and was so lighthearted! Very good talk

I agree, tackling such big issue that ultimately will benefit different countries markets is something every business should in some way be talking about. By combining the best practices from countries markets that have been proven successful time and time again, a domino effect will begin to occur as the world gets smaller and smaller like James said. Bringing people closer together and breaking the barriers that have been in place because of fear of the unknown.

The story about his friend at dinner in Beijing is a great example on why it's important to study the etiquette of the country you will be visiting.

That part also showed why its important not to assume that the customs of people of one area are the same as those to a similar people.

Very much enjoyed this presentation! I am taking a Global Management course for my bachelors degree, and have learned so much. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences James. Globalization and diversity definitely go hand in hand and can get better over time.

I love his way of thinking. This was a great presentation. Though he grow up in a harsh environment. His heart is full of love and understanding to people. Racism is a big problem and we should cut it out of our lives. The world is getting even smaller, you cant stop it. I want to learn more about business cultures and strategies, its very interesting.

I totally agree with you. Racism has been a big issue through history and we can see that it hasn't change in some aspects. We can see that he does not let his bad experiences affect him and this is why he is successful.

    • @uniquemonique2472

I agree we are so intertwined now racism seems foolish. You never know what a person is mixed with and or have experienced. Rejecting someone because of their background or nationality can prevent you and others from growing and building as a people. Globalization and diversity is a must.

Diversity and globalization do need to come together more. The internet opens up so many channels for people across the world to communicate and come together. I enjoyed this video.

I am so happy how his life became better (less racism) from globalization. The Internet really does connect everyone and make people share their countries cultures,

Diversity is important when it comes to life experiences and the correct way to react. Globalization is inevitable and always learning other's culture is the only way to remain unbiased in an advancing world.

I agree with James that diversity and globalization need to aligned closer together and not separated in a sense like they are today.

    • @ryanobaya3409
      @ryanobaya3409 5 років тому

Definitely, I agree with your statement. As we have advanced in technology the gap that separated cultures is getting smaller and smaller; Closing that gap can be scary for some, but ultimately I think its something that we will continue to see and society will adapt.

It's so sad that whatever he experienced when he was young is happening again to minorities in America...

    • @MegF142857

Happening again? There has always been some struggle, but the United States has and continues to do an amazing job of absorbing new cultures and people. There is the concepts of our Constitution that unite citizens, then there can be difference of culture. I have seen improvement and the country is moving to a majority being minorities. There won't be any particular minority because basically everyone is a sub-group of one kind or another. That's where we are headed.

I believe being well diverse is great for globalization. Especially if you are going into global business and you need to educate yourself on the different cultures to succeed.

People are discriminated against for numerous reasons and not just race or ethnic group. Whites are also discriminated against for numerous reasons whether it be they political position on an issue (diversity of thought), economical (diversity of economic class) or because of a certain region they are from (diversity of ethnic groups or cultures) or whatever. Point is, you just got to stand up for yourself and let people know they are not going to mess with you regardless of who you are or where you are fom. Then you gain respect. Sad that sometimes you have to punch somebody in the nose to get their attention and develop that respect but that is the human condition. Discrimination, is not something you can regulate out of existence.

He speaks of how to make a buck off of a diverse community. It does not address what happens to those that do not compete as well in those diverse communities ? That is the failure of this globalization model.

There is a lot of rubbish in this show. Globalization is by far much more complex than this show shows. There are thousands of disadvantages.
    Sell soaps. You'll succeed. .

Is that what you do, sell soaps? Why so negative? Perhaps things are not going your way? There may be more to globalization, but it is good to start somewhere.
