- So the Dynasty 200DX welder is going to be expensive to fix. This is not what I was expecting...
So, I'm looking for some advice on which welder we should get.
I will keep you updated and let you know what we do.
Thanks for watching.
The best shops always have the best tools. Customer walks in, sees the shop have great tools, they feel confident to leave the car with the shop.
Yan Ling I’m trying to look for cheap, I want to see which is the best welder for the money. My $4000 welder lasted 4-5 years.
I feel you, buddy. I have the exact same machine. I've lost pedal control, it only works in stick mode now. I'm a hobbiest, so mine is clean as new, and has only used 4-5 tanks of argon since I bought it in 2007. And they want $1200 to repair it.
I'm not a believer in the "legendary Miller reliability" anymore. For 3/4 the cost of the repair, I can get a cheap machine that's essentially disposable.
"It isn't like I'm doing this while I find something else to do" Thank you for a new motivational quote. Keep up the awesome work!
I love the honesty and frankness of your videos, John, and I'm sorry your Miller died just before Christmas. With any luck, Santa will bring you a new one. Merry Christmas to the entire LHT crew, their families and fans! God bless you all in the upcoming New Year.
Throckmorton Thanks so much buddy. Merry Christmas to you.
I went everlast. Love it. 255ext or 325ext are auto Fabricating and job shop workhorse. No issues with the ones I've used. Great arc. Great price. Wayyy cheaper service too. I have welded with most brands(except HTP) and for the $...everlast made the most sense. I use miller at work but that's because they have the $ to invest on $5000 machines. (40 employee custom industrial fab shop) the machines we build are worth $500,000. But I myself am a one man fab/repair shop from home shop. It was my money so i went in the middle. And I'm so glad i did. Gna upgrade to everlast 325EXT in a few months and sell my 210EXT, to do thicker aluminum. Hope ur hunting went well brother!
One of my friends told me “I’m too broke to go cheap” might as well buy new welder with warranty spend the money and not have to buy new one if old welder breaks again it’s an investment for the long run
Valley Fitted Its very true.
I would go Everlast. They seem to have a good reputation and 5 yr warranty.
I bought one 7 months ago I’ve been putting it through its paces ever since Monday through Friday still runs like new and it performs really good on both stainless and aluminum PowerTig 185 DV plus it was just $850 on sale directly from everlast I also like that their based out of San Francisco so if I ever need to use that 5 year warranty they’re under 2 hours away from me
I have the same machine. I bought the tig package less than 15 hours something happened. Have owned 11 millers no more blue for me!
did you ever consider a primeweld Tig 225x as a replacement¿
I love my Miller Dynasty 280DX however i also have a HTP Invertig 221 and if 220a or less gets your by I’d get a HTP Invertig 221 all day long. The arc is super smooth and it was ac amplitude settings. The HTP is around $2300
I have a Miller Multi Matic 200 I use at work. It’s all 3 processes in 1.
I’m also about to purchase a ESAB Rebel EMP 215ic which is another Multi process machine for home use/side projects.
There each around $2000 and are 120v - 230v. There definitely worth the money, and for what you guys are going to be using them for either one is good. They both have auto settings and manual settings and are very durable.
I would go Everlast 210ext or 255ext with their water cooler package. Or go htp invertig 110/220 with water cooler package. I have the Everlast 255ext with water cooler and you can’t beat the price for what your getting out of the machine. So far it’s the best machine I’ve used to date. It came with a air and water cooled torch with torch switches, ive used all the settings with the torch switches while welding roll cages and other things that limit the use of the foot pedal and it performs flawlessly!!! Everlast customer support was great over the phone while ordering and they honored a previous deal they had on my machine, they definitely will wheel and deal with you especially since you have a UA-cam channel.
its a good m,achine and a great price but IT IS NOT a dynasty. i have an everlast 80 amp plasma cutter and its a beast. if the dynasty and everlast were the same price everyone would buy the dynasty. its a better welder especially on AC. theres nothing wrong with the 210ext. its just not as nice if you get what im saying
THANKS FOR THE WORNING,I HAD BEEN THINKING ABOUT BUYING A MILLER DYNASTY 200 AC/DC.BEEN WELDING SINCE 1980.HARD DECISION TO MAKE ON NEXT MACHINE BUT SHOP AROUND,MAYBE LOOK INTO A ESAB?
I have a Lincoln tig 200 square wave and it's a great machine
Alec O'Connor I’ve never had a Lincoln. Our machines have always been Miller.
Not a direct comparison, but I took a stereo into a repair shop (yes, we used to do that before the internet) and they kept NOT fixing it for 6 months.
I got it back and ordered schematics and found the bad parts in 30 minutes. Less than $20 and it was fixed.
And I converted my Miller Challenger 172 to use a spool gun rather than buy a new welder.
It's a pain to take time away from profitable production diagnosing it yourself, but you may know someone that will fix it for a lot less.
Ask around.
John the HTP Invertig is an amazing machine and you cannot go wrong with it.
Any chance you took note of the Arc Timer/Counter on the machine? I am curious to see how much Arc time a serious fabricator like yourself was able to get out of a machine like that.
change to ESAB! i know its expensive but you guys do some great fab work. i bet if you reach out maybe someone will give you some type of partial sponsorship! show miller this video
ArmedNewYork I will look at ESAB. We have their helmets and love them.
that shit needs to be disassembled and fully cleaned with liquids once in a while when it gets dirty. I got a broken one and holy shit I did all the fucking air blowing I could before diassembly. I got to the very middle looking for a fault and it was CAKED in there with bull shit. Every component cleaned = 1/2 gallon of filthy ultrasonic cleaner water. I think conductive shit builds up on the surface of boards etc and makes capacitance problems that fries components, not to mention cracks in the conformal coating (its like trusting the electronics to saran wrap because their in the path of heavy metal dust air flow. Guess what happens if the PCB is covered with conductive iron layer and there is a strong magnetic field from a transient! I am telling you, the manual procedure for cleaning it with a blower is BULL SHIT. 1 weekend to disassemble and clean everything. After you do that, you can replace broken parts or trouble shoot. 850V on a green PCB with a mil of conformal coating on the PCB covered with dirty old car grindings = shes gonna go. Clean and bake everything even the coils and transformers. And if you go ultrasonic route, 1 component = 1 tank. If you clean one choke up, drain and wash the tank before you do another one, and wipe/blow everything you can off the surface so excessive contamination does not get in. And yes, its already there, I think metal dust follows the magnetic fields into the tiniest of crevaces in there like it was carried by liquid anyway, but no need to let the heavy surface contamination in. These millers are real MF. They need to learn how to control impedance and account for wire then put the boards inside of sealed boxes like RF amps instead of this clown show engineering and messing with goo. The potting is bull shit BTW, it needs empty boxes filled with air to be good. cans with GASKETS not pouring ASPHALT!
Get a larger AC/DC industrial machine w dedicated 220v. I don'tthink you need to carry around the machine so that Dynasty feature (lightweight) is moot. Regards -
I also had trouble with my 200 DX, expensive to fix multiple times. My friend also trouble with his 210DX, hes getting the new 400HTP. Bad display, bad board, then plugins to boards becoming faulty. I was able to just sell it for cheap, my Miller 250 synchrowave has been rock solid for over a decade and it was bought used. I Just ended up keeping the old synchro. The dynasty welded absolutely amazing but is just not built well. I have heard the HTP are nice, I wonder what you ended up getting?
Most of the shops i seen have 20 30 40 year old Miller welders. These are very good welders people play with them and break them. Send it to Miller they will fix it. CRY once by another Miller.
Considering that the economy is still good and people seem to still have enough disposable income to put into their cars. I would buy the better welder, with a good warranty. You may go another 5 years not not have another issue with the new welder.
Pete Miller I would think a welder should go longer than 5 years. I remember the older machines would last 20+ years.
There is an update to this story. Stay tuned...
Looking forward to hearing the update! My Dynasty just went dark, very interested to know what you ended up doing.
Go with HTP they are Italian made welders not China. Only 3 MIN amp Tig AC/DC welder on the market that cost half of the miller.
Look into getting the higher end everlast machine they come with a 5 year warranty on them
my miller dynasty just died on me too. Dynasty 210, wont arc, says 0.0 volts when i hit the pedal.
hobarts aint too shabby but it aint a Miller!! good luck with the search!
It looks like you're doing shop work. A old syncrowave with all the bells and whistles isnt that different then a dynasty from welder experience. You trade light weight portability and efficiency for longevity and robustness
Ok dose Miller offer rebuild service recondition program?? Worth shipping cost??
Holy smokes... Miller pulled a"Snap On" move. Lolol.
I'm just now able to justify buying any weekday that I want. My Miller mid Welder has been fantastic, and the welders very closely match the finish of my collection of Makita tools. That being said, I'm looking at this video while considering a Dynasty. . I don't use it for business, just my family, friend and personal projects. Boy, would I be a real dumbass to have to deal with this knowing that longevity will take care of me for 5 years. Going with the Dynasty, I might have to pay $5k to rent it for a year or two, then just buy the longevity anyway.
I would buy a slightly used 350 or 400. Less work for the machine.
Is the repair warrantied? If so, I may lean toward the repair if is half the cost of new.
Timothy Peele No. It has to have a power supply first, that’s $860, then they can find if the boost board is needed too. It’s a crap shoot at best.
@@LHTPerformance Is there not someone that could diagnose the actual components rather than just swapping parts?
Steve Reid I wish. Doesn’t seam like many places repair them. This shop deals with Miller and had miller on the tech line yesterday
Maybe in your free time change out components in your machine and see what fixes it?
Dan Carlos The parts are very expensive. I hate to just guess and throw parts at it.
Or the htp 201 from USA welds. Its itally
Fronius, especially if they have a representative in your city.
Dont cheap out, buy once, cry once.
wowsplat I like that phase. 👍🏻
@@LHTPerformance Would call up Miller and see if they'll help you out with the price and if no go take wowsplat's advice :P
jronayne88 That’s exactly what I did. Might to wait till January/ February to buy a new Dynasty.
Repair.
Personally... I love my syncrowave 250.... she is a huge heavy power hungry machine.... welds amazing.... but I do have my eye on the dynasty 280... I think I might just do it
How much do you want for the dead Dynasty 200dx? Thanks.
chukchee Miller took it in trade
Get an Everlast. Better bang for your buck.
JAM4382 I’m thinking it will be Miller, Lincoln or Essab.
LHTPerformance what was the diagnosis on your old unit? Did they even diagnose the problem properly or just open a parts catalog and tell you worst case scenario. I’m an electronics technician. It’s probably a cheap component, but nobody replaces components anymore they just sell you a new board..
JAM4382 I took it to a shop that repairs welders and is a Miller dealer.
Try Eastwood tig welder
I BELIEVE EASTWOOD IS MADE IN CHINA
It’s only around 3 car payments for the NSX. Lmao!
ainzy23 Lol. You’re actually pretty close. 🤣
Hey john how much are shirts???
Leonard Hatzell $15 plus shipping
@@LHTPerformance im local =)
@@littleredsport5806 Come on by. We're open tomorrow :)
Maybe a long shot but you could get in contact with ABOM79, he's in Florida somewhere, he knows all about welders and into cars, could even do some UA-cam collaboration, he might have a spare welder?
Hmm, Pensacola, not exactly close
Everlast. 250 ex More powerful. better duty cycle and at less than half the price at 1550. Runs on single or 3 phase power supply.
Hey john
biopqq Yea 🤷♂️
Spend the money its an investment
Sad miller
You know you get what you pay for.don't get a cheaper one.invest in yourself.
Buy the Everlast 255
Buy the new dynasty
