disclaimer: idk if u care about any of this i'm just autistic and wanted to infodump learn !!! i started learning a couple of years ago (2021) but have been really focusing on it this year and i would rly recommend watching stuff with eng subtitles! it lets you enjoy spanish/portuguese content and helps with accents & pronunciation. as for learning the language itself, i would recommend starting duolingo, watching youtube videos, and if there's a course in your area you can go to, go to it!! duolingo is good for tourists (it teaches you phrases) but to learn proper dialect u need to study a bit more. i don't speak portuguese but in spanish there are certain rules that don't apply in english. here's some: - conjugations. almost all spanish verbs end in -ar, -er or -ir, and translate as 'to __'. for example, 'bailar' translates as 'to dance'. however, to change it to 'i dance', you take away the 'ar' and replace it with 'o'. so, bailar would become bailo. search up conjugation charts for an easy way to learn the endings !! - gendered nouns. see this really confused me but basically every noun is either feminine or masculine, and mostly you just have to know it but usually, a noun ending in o is masculine and a noun ending in a is feminine. - present participle. to make 'talk' continuous, you add '-ing'. this is the same in spanish but -ando/iendo!! for example, 'bailar' (to dance) becomes 'bailando' (dancing) anyways i hope u start learning because its really fun when u have a reason :)
