You are welcome!
Carving is amazing Mr. Johnson! The table is beautiful, not to mention the finish. This is another favorite of mine. I can't express enough how your techniques put you as the number 1 in restoration. I really mean that. I've seen other people restorations and I say to them in my mind "this is not how Mr. Johnson would do this piece and wish they could watch how you work. This is why I say your my number 1 Teacher. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching, and your kind words
Hello Tom....what can I say. You're the best.
I very often try to imagine the owner's reaction when you deliver their furniture.
Thanks! usually it's all good!
The tung oil finish really brought out the beautiful grain on the table-top. Congrats, Tom.
Thanks!
Once again it's an exciting day when I get to yell out to my husband, "Bring your chair! Tom has made another post!" And we watch the master at work.
***** Thank you! you are too kind. I really appreciate it. All the best.
That’s a cute comment, Linda.
Mr thomas sir, you are a magician!
Thank you! Yes, a lot of smoke and mirrors!
Now that’s a beautiful table. You are a master craftsman.
Thank you!
That table restoration really turned out great. Enjoyed seeing how you bent the bead mold. Nice work Tom.
Thanks! 👍
'It looks pretty good' was an understatement lol. The timber colours especially those edges were beautiful after your finish. Thank you for showing the grain in the Rosewood too. I dont think I've ever seen that timber. Its gorgeous.
Thank you very much! It is a beautiful wood
You do great work. Anyone would be proud to have this table in their home.
Thank you!
Dang it. I've got other things to do but I can't stop binging these videos. Netflix will be taking a rest for a while for sure. Thanks for sharing these.

To me, this is one of the more beautiful pieces you have done. The wood is intricately figured and your work in restoration was just phenomenal.

Really beautiful work!!!
Thank you so much! 😀
It’s an awsome job, as usual. You are very talented and it’s always a pleasure to see you working. Thanks for these videos !
You're welcome!
What a beautiful job - I love Rosewood, sadly it was over-used in Danish style furniture in the 1970s, 80's here in the UK. I'm always amazed how the application of your favourite beeswax polish brings pieces back to life, whilst preserving their aged appearance.
Thanks! yes, that polish works wonders! www.howardproducts.com/product/feed-n-wax-wood-polish-and-conditioner/
Excellent repair
Thanks! 👍
Beyond “pretty good”, it’s beautiful 👍👍
Thank you very much!
Beautiful table 👍
Thank you! 😊
Enjoy the Restoration Process. Each Video is Captivating! Your Technique in repair knowledge is amazing and Your love for your work shines in each Antique Restoration Piece you have worked on.
Thank you!
Pure magic.
Thank you!
Beautiful! Because it was cut down, now you have a singular piece of furniture art.
+Heru- deshet Thanks! and that's a good way of looking at it
I play catch-up with all your posted videos. Your skills on restoration and refinishing antique and contemporary furnitrure are masterful indeed. The resident cat(s), dog, wild bird(s), llamas and chickens make the workshop complete.
Thank you!
Great work Tom, such detail and what a great result!
Bill Holmes Thanks!
Great job Mr Johnson, one of my favorite restorations because of this table. It's so beautiful. Your work is unique.
Thank you very much!
so beautiful even if cut down. Thank you for your artistry.
You're welcome! I know, I would never cut down such a nice table but it does look good!
Gorgeous
Thank you!
Quite beautiful, as always. But too short. I would have liked more of the carving the new piece. But I'm grateful for what you give us. Thanks.
You're welcome! And we have been showing more detail and making the videos longer. Originally we were trying to keep them as short as possible
Very nice job done!
Thanks!
Another fantastic project! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
Craig in PA Thanks!
I'm trying to restore an old singer machine table to its glory and this video is so awesome, hopefully this video will help to do just that!

You did it justice.
Thanks again!

You're welcome!
Tom, that looks great!
Gianni Carlo Contardo Thank you!
H have been using regular cheap hide glue for repairs per your instructions. The other day I spilled some on an inexpensive small table with a top having fantastic grain and color. The hide glue made it come alive. So I covered the top and rubbed it into the grain vigorously then sanded with 320. The shellac took to it very well and the final satin varnish somehow looked deeper and much more varied in color. Try it on a piece of scrap. It might work well as an overall penetrating sealer. Best regards from beautiful Arizona. Larry Sorenson
Thanks Larry! That's interesting. Nothing wrong with using hide glue as a sealer - maybe it's the color of it that made the wood look so good
The glue-up of the legs was very impressive. They looked as tight and true as the original builder had done them.
Thank you! It was a tough one
Outstanding work as always Tom, a real pleasure to watch the piece come back to life.
Cheers,
John
Zone1242 Thanks
It's not just 'pretty good'. It's amazing! Thank you for sharing the knowledge. I'm a new fan and just subscribed. I find restoring old furniture like you did is very therapeutic, giving old furniture a new lease of life.
Thank you! and I love saving pieces also, giving them another chance
I’m in love with rosewood!
I really like Rosewood too. Wish we'd see more of it
@@johnsonrestoration so much of it getting cut up and resold, it's in such high demand that a lot of people don't see the value in the object anymore, only the value in the timber
Thomas that was amazing. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Absolutley brilliant restorations!
+mach smith Thanks!
Well done Young Tom!!! Great work!
Thanks!
great job. enjoyed video, thanks
You're welcome!
Very nice!!!
Thanks!
This is my favorite restoration. I envy your talent and patience. :)
Thanks!
Gorgeous table. Great work as always.
Thank you!
Beautiful piece!
Thanks!
You did it justice
Thank you!
Holy Moly!
Thanks!
Nice work. Steam bending always seems mysterious to me. More art than craft. But re cutting down the table … if it wasn’t highly valuable, incredibly well made, or historically significant, AND if cutting it down means it will be used all the time, I’m all for it. Seems like it was an awkward side table; now it’s beautiful coffee table.
Thanks! Yes, I have to admit - it made for a beautiful coffee table!
Wow you have amazing skills Tom . Thank you for sharing this refinish learned alot
You're welcome!
Phenomenal work... Love watching your videos

Thomas Johnson Antique Furniture Restoration your welcome
Memories! The star item in the collection of a NSW South Coast museum I worked for was a 1911 wooden Sydney Harbour Ferry, built close to the museum site. We received funding for a major restoration project for the Australian Bi-centennial in 2001. Our team was lead by the son of the last wooden boat builder in the area. Most of the boats he had worked on were small ones. None of the team had experience of work on anything as large as our ferry so when it came to a method of steaming timbers to get the right curve, there was much scratching of heads and experimentation. Eventually they settled on a polypipe method - similar to yours - somewhat bigger and done outside using an open fire. for heat In the end it worked well and the boys had a great time sitting around the fire!
And by the way - saw that the alpacas had been shorn. Is there a spinner in your household? Just asking as a spinner and attendee at Maritime Spinners Retreats (Eastern Canada), that include spinners from Maine.
And the lustre was just beautiful!
Thanks! Sounds like an amazing project. I happen to have a lot of alpaca fibre to give away. If you know anyone who's interested, email me: thomasjohnsonrestoration@gmail.com
@@johnsonrestoration Thanks Tom - that is a very kind offer. We live between Canberra Australia and Stanley Bridge, PEI - just north of you in Maine. Usually, we would be on PEI at this time of the year and I would be looking forward to the Maritime Spinners Retreat. This year, however, we were in Australia when COV-ID19 struck, and here we are stuck, probably until the coming of a vaccine. It might have been the occasion for a trip to Maine. I am pretty sure that it would also be impossible for the resident PEI spinners to cross the border into Maine right now ... Sad!
nice job and beautiful finish on completed piece ...... i hope you have been able to pass your skills on to more people besides viewers here on YT
Quite a few, including my daughter which makes me very proud!
Lord Almighty, that is a beautiful tabletop!
Yes! Thanks!
You are incredible!
+Anna Bear Thank you! (blushing)
Sometimes you have to amputate to save the rest of the body. Had to do that once with a dining room cabinet that I found on the sidewalk for garbage pickup; there was simply no way to salvage the bottom drawer between the rot and rodent damage. It turned out pretty decent considering I only had a few hand tools and a lot of elbow grease. Used in it my office for quite a few years.
Yes, that's true. I've had to do something like that too, it's always too bad but..........
As a coffee table, it is nice. Would be interesting to decorate with one of each (console and coffee) in the same room.
Yes, it is! I would never cut down an antique table, but it does look nice!
thanks again)) very cool!
Александр Вингерт You're welcome!
Thanks for sharing. Come and visit Barbara Wheeler at Wheeler Log Cabin Shop. Her location in the heart of Amish Country Marion, KY. Built in 1835, this two-story log cabin is one of Crittenden County's oldest homes. Primitive antiques, herb gardens, fruit trees and a glimpse into days gone by all await you six miles out Hwy 91 N. Wednesdays 10-4 , Mid April through Late October.
I like how he says looks pretty good when he knows it's as good as new
Thanks! Well, I'll let the owner and the viewers decide that!
Woau bravo respekt Thomas nice ❤❤❤❤😍😍😍🙋♂️🤝
Thank you!
Wow that rosewood top looks AMAZING refinished i can see why that wood is so sought after and endangered. It looks like it is on fire from within.
Thanks! Yes, it does look good!
Hey Tom, that looked better than " pretty good". That was a bit of a process, but the outcome was well worth it. Nice job. I really look forward to your videos.keep up the great work.
billfromelma Thanks!
Its' pritty good indeed as usually! Thank you! Would like to know how you choose the way of the finish - to use an oil for the top and shellac for the table base? And also i noticed you didn't remove that tiny dust (?) before you put the wax on the top.
Hi Lydia, thanks for watching! I like Waterlox Tung Oil for tops because it's very durable. The base is fine with shellac. I may have wiped it off put some remained, but it all got dissolved with the bee's wax polish
@@johnsonrestoration di you use any other oils? I think i saw you use orange oil once which my husband used to use. But what oils can you use?
It looks pretty good means it is excellent!.
Thanks!
Once again I've been able to learn something from you, plus I usually steal an idea from something in the background Thom Gray AKA Old Grow Fixit Shop
Thanks! Yes, we all learn from each other
Beautiful... ;-)
Many thanks!
Hi there,
I have watched quite a few of your excellent videos, you have absolutely impressive skills and knowlege!!
I'm not sure if you buy these, restore them and re-sell them or if you restore them for their owners ... if you do restore them for their owners, I would love to see their faces / reactions when seeing the completed projects!! It must be amazing!
Thanks for the videos, I know you try to keep them short, I, personally would not mind if they were longer with more detail.
Thanks Francois, all the pieces in my videos are for clients, I don't do any buying and selling. It's great seeing and hearing people's reactions, especially the "basket cases"!
Now I see why restoration is so expensive - all those hours of painstaking work. Wow. The owners of this table must have been thrilled to pieces. Stunning work! "Pretty good" - haha, New Englanders don't gush. ;)
Thanks! Yeah, we can't brag about anything! (except the Patriots!)
I've been to Maine many times. Love it!
Wow. I didn't know cutting down furniture like that was a thing. 😕 Either way, it was in good hands and came out great.
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Don't feel bad. My wife had me cut down TWO antique vanities to make end tables. (they really do make good end tables)
Thanks! Always a tough thing to do, but if it makes them useful.........
Even the dog is trying to learn woodworking from Tom. lol
Oh, I think she knows a lot more than she lets on!
Dogs do that. Cats occasionally make sure you are doing it properly.
I see the dog knows in which hand you have the treat lol
Yes! It makes it difficult when she focus on that hand! Thanks
splendid
Thank you!
Thanks. It looks more than 'pretty good', your final comment. It looks stunning.
