It turned out great Andy! I think the color took well. I use a lot of black walnuts and pecans here for dyeing traps but they would be a dark color. You did great brother 😊🔥🔥👍👊

    Good idea on the bag.
Good experiment and worth the try. Apparently black walnut husk can also have effects such as thinning the blood and reducing thyroid hormone levels.
    Nice one.

I enjoyed this, mate! I have a lot of black walnut trees on my property and have been considering trying to make iodine with it next year. This brought back some good memories. I taught a homeschool class on the US Civil War and one of the moms dyed a shirt with walnut shells the way the Southern troops did back in the 1860s. You walnuts look a bit different than what I'm used to. They looked like pecans in the US. Interesting to the see the different types. Thanks for sharing!

When I was a kid we went scrumping walnuts. We couldn't get the stain off our hands for days which didn't help when we tried to deny it!

If using freshly fallen black walnuts, wear rubber/nitrile gloves if you don’t want discolored hands for days to week.

Great video, Andy. I might be wrong, but I think walnuts, especially black walnuts were used in "old times" to make pen ink. I rather like the resulting color of this bag. Another couple treatments and/or a longer brew/soak time might darken it a bit.
