These headphones without the solar power are called the Urbanists Miami's. I have them, and they're fine. Not incredible, but they cost around €150 nowadays I believe, maybe even lower.
I wouldn't say the solar charging thing is a gimmick. There are plenty of situations where the battery life of wireless headphones/headsets is insufficient. Being in the sun would likely keep these running indefinitely, and running them in a well-lit room likely adds several hours of use. If you don't use your headphones every day or for many hours at a time, you'd never need to plug them in. Headphones are one of the few devices where solar makes a lot of sense.

I mean there is studio lighting above him and he said they gained 4% and that was with them being turned off for 10 minutes because he couldn't pair them back with his phone. Garbage gimmick.
So in 40 minutes it's at 16%, also that is not exactly how the math works when charging a battery. And on top of that it doesn't charge when it's on. Just a useless gimmick.

I'm super skeptical they they'd ever really have an infinite battery, but it's still a super cool idea regardless. I'm a big fan of everything trending towards having their own power sources at a smaller and smaller scale.
The panels are too small for 24 hour use in shade. But in the sun for a few hours? Might top up a tiny bit. you'll probably get less than 30-300mahs through a whole day though, and a headphone can burn through those small 300mah batteries in a few hours. So this thing would probably do less than half a charge in full sun for a whole day.
I don't think this even has a solar panel. At least I don't see anything that looks like one. So either they invented some new technology or this is a scam.

I have had mine for roughly a week and I haven’t had to charge them once. I use them maybe 4-5hrs each day. I’ve used them outside when I’ve gone walking and they stay charged maybe will lose 1% if that for being outside for an hour.
Replacing headphone pads are usually pretty easy and inexpensive if you know where to look, the hard part is finding the correct size and shape. Even if they're non removable pads you can get them off with a blunt knife, then stick new ones on with 3M tape
really wish you went in more depth on the solar powered part...you know the one feature that's supposed to distinguish these pairs of cans from all the others

I hope in the future they would add an endurance test for headphones/earphones/iem that they test. How durable the device is is an important thing to note. If it breaks just from accidentally dropping it then its clearly a shit tier.
There is such a thing as electrostatic headphones with some of the best sound quality pretty much ever. However, they are exorbitantly expensive and theyre from the 70s so theyre not the topic of this channel. The point is that if theyre dropped or even removed from your head too fast the driver breaks and theyre donezo. Just because theyre fragile doesnt inherently mean theyre shit.
It depends on the battery cap (and thus uptime) but a safe bet is; that solar charger is impractical for charging, for regular use -adding some minutes to a battery use time of hrs . IMO for like 95% of it's users; it will just be gimmick.
I was trying out HD800 in a Hifi shop and they had a laptop available with Tidal and when it was set to master quality (I think that's what it's called) it got way quieter than the lower quality modes.

I got a pair just before new years. Wore them constantly until mid-May when the head strap cracked at a weak flex point. My guess, less mass to allow for the panel. They broke when I was pulling them apart to slide over my ears. I've been tossed back and forth between Best Buy and Ubanista for who should cover the warranty I really liked them. Charged them *once* when I first got them, even with short winter days

I do buy the ones that has good reviews but still, I think my ears are just not built right. I don't dare buying more expensive ones because I'm afraid I won't hear the difference. After long years of thinking, I've concluded that I have cheap ears and in need of upgrading them.

This bothered me a bit, because a battery can’t be both charged, and discharged at the same time. Therefore, to be any use the solar would need to generate enough power to run the headphones entirely or will only charge them when they are not in use (unless there are two batteries and some switching)

Does the headphone's cup cause pain for people who wear glasses? I've had headphones where the tight compression to keep them on your head compress my glasses into my ears too. That gets very painful over a short period of time.
Soft touch electronics that you have to handle get gross VERY quick, and then the rubberizing compound starts to fail and bubbles and oil appear... In headphones no, thanks.

The problem is that other parts of the headset may not survive extended period of exposion to sunlight, especially ear cushions. (may chip)

How? A good one will last near 3 years on it's battery alone!!! With solar, near a window, not even full sun, it's near perpetual (till the panel or battery dies).
@@TechyBen Maybe the Battery was already screwed. I even took it off and left it outside for a couple hours and it still died.

Does the headphone's cup cause pain for people who wear glasses? I've had headphones where the tight compression to keep them on your head compress my glasses into my ears too. That gets very painful over a short period of time.
that's why i use on ear headphone's, not a full size headphone
