- As you well-know, Sacred Symbols doesn't work with any publishers, developers, or manufacturers. As such, we're excited to talk about PSVR2 for the very first time now that we've gotten our own purchased units in the mail. We go into some of our varying experiences so far, particularly with Horizon: Call of the Mountain, and Colin in particular wonders if his unit is broken or just permanently blurry ('sweet spot' be damned). We also get into all of the week's news, of course, starting with IO Interactive's big reveal of a new fantasy RPG in the works, Elden Ring's mysterious upcoming DLC, the closure of Square Enix's Luminous Productions, and more. As usual, listener inquiries round things out for us on topics like 3D platformers, endemic industry negativity, the potentially offensive nature of the term 'JRPG', and one funny anecdote from our live show in Houston about a few mystified men who thought they were there to see Moulin Rouge.

Dustin hears Gene's cancer free and his first thought is '1 v 1 me bro'
He's been hardened by MWII
Dustin they took until 14 minutes in a 15 minute demo to tell us there will be a battle pass they know the type of game they have made and trying mitigate as much damage as possible. The fact you must play with bots at all times show it’s not a single player game at all . And the most frustrating is they all shoot king shark is a Melli fighter and captain boomerang doesn’t use his boomerang’s unless it’s a finisher. I hope you love it but my heart sank the further we went into the demo.
It make me so sad the Kevin Conroys last appearance as Batman is in a live service 3rd person shooter.
Something is better than nothing
Atomic Heart is trying to be like 6 different games. It's Bioshock meets Doom meets Far Cry meets survival horror meets Portal meets Duke Nukem. If they just stuck to 2 it would have been great.
1 works too
Something about it immediately felt off. Part of it was how the loot system works, just doesn’t feel good. It’s sure pretty though
The main character is undeniably cringe and the combat is mid but I'm still enjoying the game.
The open world part was utter trash, i just wanted to get to the dungeons in peace!!
Atomic Heart is still great. It's best game of February
colin replies to a question about ranting and denies ranting and then in the very next question rants about people not liking video games... i adore this show
He even said "enough of that diatribe"
Colin vs Greg would bring in serious fight $$$.
A spectacle for all the wrong reasons.
That would be an absolute massacre. Greg is like 3 weight classes above Colin. He is a large man. Little guys can take down big guys in dirty street fights. But there is a reason they are separated in legit tournaments.
@@isturbo1984 A big man with zero testosterone or muscle tone is just a big punching bag. Colin at the very least looks like he registers on those scales.

@colin to make the image in VR better the headset has to sit higher on your head then you expect. Put on horizon then adjust it a little higher up and you will find the sweet spot
My Dad still think computer games will "ruin my life" one day. Despite me being 40, married, owning a house and having a great job.
Can we get lockmort to do a Colin’s best rants edit? Many times Colin rants, to say rant is too strong of a word because he isn’t literally screaming or frothing at the mouth is a bit disingenuous. A rant is a passionate speech, a little louder than normal, and rolling from one point into the next without letting others speak until you’re done. 100% happens almost every show, like toward the end “I DARE YOU TO TELL ME THAT CHRONO TRIGGER ISNT A JRPG, I DARE YOU”
First time I seen these guys faces lol. Been listening on Spotify for months and this channel hasn't popped up on my feed in like 5 years. Whenever I first discovered it when it was just Colin. I'm surprised I'm still subbed.
PSVR2 is definitely a softer image than I thought it would be. I’m new to VR and assumed it would be crisp like the tv. It’s not crisp hd, it’s softer but it’s definitely not blurry. The res just isn’t as impressive as I expected being so used to PS5 and its super sharp image. That said, I quickly got used to it as the overall experience is amazing. GT7… RE8? Freakin amazing. Horizon was awesome as a first experience and Kayak as well.
Side note for anyone else new to VR, don’t forget to wipe lenses after use. Those things ‘will’ be blurry if you don’t get a lens cloth on those mofos.
I can't believe people are actually paying for this thing
@@boochtron ??
@@vincevirtua I'm just shocked so many of you are wasting your money on this
@@boochtron I'm just shocked people have terrible opinions on stuff they clearly don't know about is all. I've tried GT7, Re 8 and Horizon in vr for starters and you haven't.
Cashews are technically seeds I believe. They fall into the same category as sunflower seeds.
correct. They started reading about "cashew apples" and confusing it for the actual cashew...
That Bronx Tale line was a deep fucking cut.
The Buc-ee's shirt!!!
Whoever pointed out how Dustin says "watch" and how Colin pronounces "th," you've broken me.
Rez Infinite Area X is incredible in VR2! It feels like you got pulled into the matrix. A must play in VR. The OLED with the deep blacks makes it that much better. Another must play is Thumper. The game is a bit easier in VR due to better depth perception but what a trip! Switchback also looks very promising.. comes out in a couple of weeks and this could potentially be the system seller we are all hoping for. The only way we can get great games on this is if it sells so it's critical that we get a killer app soon that can move units off the shelf and I dont know about you but to me Switchback looks like the game to do this. This coupled with the fact that PS5s are now easy to get shines a light of hope for the future of Sony's VR. Let's hope this won't end up like the Dreamcast or Vita where impressive tech with so much potential gets buried by horrible business decisions
I’d pay to watch Dustin and Brad fight.
I can't get over the way Dustin say "watch." The "a" sound seems to elude him, and in place of that is a hard "uh." "Wuh-tch" wft lol?
colin saying a 1200 calorie diet is "so high" just sent me lol i had to back it up and listen again because i was convinced i misheard him. 1200 calories is basic calorie necessity for a child lmao
From my experience, a lot of younger women hate video games because they are seen as competition and as a waste of time (they just buy into the negative stereotypes associated with them and don't care to learn more). The Lana Del Rey song "Video Games" pretty much perfectly encapsulates that idea. I dated a few girls like that before. I'd assume it has changed somewhat with the younger generations though and the sentiment is less common now.
I’m gonna come.
WOOOOO 👏👏👏
Don’t come
Do Not Come
Please Come
Please DO NOT come.
JRPG talk was interesting. One thing I will say as someone who spent way too much time on forums in the 90s while you did occasionally see the term JRPG most people literally just said RPG. Final Fantasy was just a RPG when we talked about it, rarely the J was used. JRPG did not have widespread use until that point Yoshi-p is talking about and it was used as a negative. Also it wasn't really because of games like Hyperdimension Neptunia (which isn't even 15 years old fwiw), it was literally just people who thought WRPGs were better and wanted to create a barrier between something like Fallout 3 and Final Fantasy. Remember, mid 2000s is when companies like BioWare and Bethesda were starting to find a mainstream audience. Essentially the mid 2000s is to WRPGs what the mid 90s was for JRPGs.
Also in terms of Rogue-stuff, funny Colin should bring up Rogue Legacy because it is THE game that started to popularize the term Rogue-lite (go look up the steam page for the original game, they capitalize and quotation lite for emphasis.) And it's not because it's an action platformer or anything, it's entirely because there is persistence between death. That is the origin of the "lite." In a traditional roguelike you lose everything upon death and when starting another character it's functionally a new save file. Rogue Legacy wanted to have that flow but they realized most people hate losing everything when they die. Hence you have a "lighter" version of the Rogue experience or: Rogue-lite.
From their Steam page again: "Rogue-lite. Your character dies, but with each passing your lineage grows and becomes stronger."
A decade ago when it was a cult genre that is how people would use it. But of course as things grow and bring in new players that kind of nuance gets lost to time.
Wolf was the only Telltale game I enjoyed. Can't wait for the sequel! I'm only playing it though once it's all out. I didn't play the original Wolf Among Us for like a year after it was out, and it was great playing it all at once.
Not for nothing, but I could never date a girl that has such a distatse for a hobby I love. If that's the case then move on or take your negatively somewhere else.
1:48:26 I really want to try GT7 with PSVR2. I have always been leaning into turns and shift my whole body when playing racing games. Ever since since I played Ridge Racer/GT/NFS Hot Pursuit as a kid, and I still did it when I played NFS Heat a few years ago.
Brought up the obese factor with Kathleen in TLOU when her episode came. How was she over weight if her group of people were the ones suffering under Fedra??
Hey Colin, the PSVR2 is my very first VR experience, and I was a little disappointed when it was so blurry at first. The sweet spot is very small but it does exist. I suggest go back into the VR set up and pay attention to the screen where it shows how the headset is aligned with your eyes. I quickly got use to how to put it on, and really hope you can find the sweet spot. It’s an amazing piece of tech
Think Colin may have gotten the Zelenskyy quote wrong. He wasn’t saying you’re going to have to send your sons to fight now. Pretty sure he was saying if Russia isn’t stopped now they’ll just continue invading until other countries have to send their sons to defend their own counties
I wish the "meeting people who hate video games" segment was a clip.
Colin's sister not letting her kids play games on week nights is quite understandable, if a bit drastic (I mean, not even an hour?). Playing video games, unlike watching TV, listening to music, reading, etc., is so much more engaging. It's a very active form of entertainment, and most games are designed to be rewarding, causing short bursts of dopamine rush. It's why it's so easy to loose track of time when playing.
“Summer gym” sounds like Dustin failed dodgeball.
Dustin, your comment about almonds and thirst was noted and properly appreciated by me, a dad.
Destiny 2 and it's "vaulting" of campaign content is shocking, idk how that's just ignored.
Colin about The Sweet Spot in VR. I think you and a lot of people are getting The Sweet Spot and the general resolution confused. The Sweet Spot is simply having your eyes in the center of the lenses which you can tell if you are doing with that visibility setting where you put your pupils in the center of the holes. What you are describing about seeing your hands and it not looking perfectly clear is just the resolution of the image. Vr gaming still has a long way to go and it is not Crystal Clear yet despite Sony saying the lenses are 4K and this and that. I know what you are talking about when you look at your hands and it kind of looks like a depth of field blurriness on them. That is also the case if you ever play Half Life Alex on a monster rig. One day VR Gaming will get so advanced the image will be crystal clear and and there won't be a sweet spot to worry about. Sorry about the grammar and possible spelling errors. I am using voice to text because my hands are full
Even the Vive Pro 2 with the 5K per eye still cant match pancake graphics on a monitor. But it's still impressive how far we come from Atari to this. For a headset under $1G it's not bad at all. In addition to the PSVR2 sweetspot another trick you can try to greatly reduce the filmgrain (Mura) effect is to lower the brightness down to 40% and given that it's OLED it's still pretty bright but it significantly reduces the screendoor/filmgrain effect. Once you found the sweetspot and lowered the brightness down to 40% it's pretty impressive for a headset under $1G. Moss and Rez Infinite looks very crisp on it
@@CheckmateStallioN just to correct the Vive Pro 2 isn't 5K per eye, it's 5K in total, so it's 2,4K per eye as opposed to the 2K per eye of the PSVR2.
However motion clarity should be in theory higher on the PSVR2 because of it being OLED.
@@goncaloduarte4683 you are right my mistake. So what's the highest res VR headset out there? Is there one higher than Vive Pro 2? The PSVR2 OLED truly shines in games like Rez Infinite or Tetris Effect! When you play Rez Infinite on the OLED it's hard to go back and play it on an LCD headset like Vive Pro 2 despite its slightly higher res. Those deep blacks mimic real life!
@@CheckmateStallioN Varjo xr3 has 3x higher PPD than PSVR2
@@billygunn6185 too bad it only goes up to 90 hz and not 120. I wonder how many people actually own this headset? I would rather spend half the price of that for the best GPU. I don't even think a 4090 can handle this one at it's max potential running Alyx at ultra settings at 90 fps. Is this the one that Disney uses?
Dustin, it's not that people aren't getting what they expected. It's that, what they're getting instead of something they loved before, is an attempt at making a game for the lowest common denominator to make as much money as possible
Wonder if Colin tried the lens focus setting within the VR2 settings. I thought it was blurry as well at times and then I checked my lens setting and it was off a bit, haven't had any issues since then
You basically should check the ipd setting each time you wear the headset imo. It’s easy too, just double click the PlayStation button.
@@vincevirtua Yup. By far the best/easiest ipd setup so far on any consumer headset.
3:24:21 I've only played a few JRPGs but both art styles and stories intrigue me. I rarely talk with people about anime or JRPGs these days, but I remember in high school and college you could see it on some peoples face if you mentioned anime or JRPGs, their face would frown and they would go silent. It was a conversation ender and they would start avoiding you. idk why that was but it definitely was the case with some people.
I can't even fathom playing Resident Evil 8 in VR. There are a few parts in particular that are freaky even third person mode. Of course the infamous baby sequence, which would probably make me pass out if I was playing VR. And Heisenberg's factory has a few legitimately freaky areas.
The dialogue in atomic heart really isn't that bad. Idk why people have such and issue with it. Also everyone comparing it to bioshock is why they're disappointed with it imo.
Great show this week. But I must say I've never felt closer to Colin's aura when he mentioned the gasoline smell enticement. Everytime I go put gas in my car I turn to that Rock meme. 😂😤⛽️
Getting down to the comments about people contributing to the overall "Toxicity" in the industry, what colin said about (And I'm paraphrasing) "Stop taking things so personally" is the biggest issue I have with many fandoms for other creators, you can't even have a normal discussion about a game because disliking or liking something turns into a political discussion or personal insult.
And the issue tends to come up the most from the same crowd preaching "Love" "Respect" or "Like what you want to like" but they rarely internalize these aspects. Not saying the creators themselves have this issue, but the fandoms or just randos online definitely do.
It gets tiring, people seemingly just want to hear their opinions from the people they watch and get furious over any amount of deviation. It makes you wonder why they would even care about other people's opinion on things when they've already formed their own passionate opinion.
Your life isn't being threatened if someone doesn't like something as much as you do, it's a hobby. Enjoy it the way you want.
Colin vs Sessler
Sessler would bite through Colin’s jugular in seconds, the man is a savage.
I'm sure someone in the comment has mentioned this but on meta vr you can cast your gameplay to your phone or TV and another person could see the screen to guide you
Colin, with the clarity of the vr2. Maybe have a few other people play it, and tell you if they think it looks clear or not?
Someone has to jump up and defend TellTale here. I remember those games back in the day and why you guys might not have like them. We loved The Walking Dead season one. It’s sold well. Tales from the borderlands critically acclaimed that man that’s another one that’s critically acclaimed. The wolf among us many of us agree that is a game that was great, but sadly overlooked. While these games may not have worked for you guys, there’s a reason why telltale stayed in business. There’s a reason why they took on more and more projects and ultimately went into debt. They signed contracts like crazy because people wanted them to make games for them. How do you think they got the Batman license? They don’t just give that away. Like I said, well, these games may not have been for you guys, but set a foundation for a new type of game or you could argue for a revival of this type of walking simulator. Progressive story game. Life is strange took everything from them, and added to it. If you were to take those games of the past and put them in a modern engine and do them right people would buy them remember back in the day we bought them. I hate to say it but many people didn’t agree with the reviews you guys are giving right now because the numbers don’t lie some of those games sold really well. I cried at the end of The Walking Dead season one.
Lol the title of this video (PSVR) doesn't have a timestamp
When it comes to "negativity" in the industry, the idea that I myself need to do better so I'm not contributing is so not a concern of mine. This industry is in a fight for its soul and you have to call out the horrible practices. All the simps, activists and twitter weirdos can cry and blame GamerGaters all they want. Just keep politics, NFTs and MTXs out of our premium games.
Not gonna lie, I hope your sister keeps her stance. You may not see it, but her limiting her kids to the weekends is her trying to instill a proper balance.
My theory about Suicide Squad, is they originally had the intention of making a game like Guardians of the Galaxy, but because of the size and scope of the IP they needed to recoup more money and that's where a lot of the changes were made, leading up to it's release.
How dare you forget about pecans!
The Walking Dead Season 1 was one of the most impactful storytelling I've seen. The end was so sad and stuck with me these many years later after beating it. TellTale games are about the story not gameplay, that being said many of their games have poor stories.

Colin is spot on about gasoline
Chis looks bored and miserable on here but on Iron Lords podcast he looks happy. Odd.
Sony had an awesome 3D collectathon with Jak and Daxter. A must play if you like the genre.
It takes between 800-1,000 gallons of water to make 1 gallon of almond milk. That’s absurd
My favorite day of the week. 🍻
Wait Dustin would fight brad from easy A? Gahahahahaha
I loved atomic heart I don’t get your complaints at all
Atomic Heart is doing great commercially and it's getting high review scores from players and that's what matters. Atomic Heart is more interesting and fun than any cringe induced JRPG like Final Fantasy 16
I still can't figure out for the life of me y I love the little music intro so much
Am I only one that see jrpg as turn based type of rpgs that comes from Japan companies normally?
I heard mercenaries rebirth and thought they did a remaster of those old awesome mercenaries games lol
I think Funhaus used to have RP episodes in GTA Online. It was hilarious.
The OG Funhaus was probably one of the best UA-cam channels at the time.
The JRPG thing is complex nowadays simply because so many games have so many blended mechanics from multiple genres that they really cant fit into a box.
1:35:31 PSVR 2 talk
I would pay good money to watch Colin fight Adam Sessler.
The worst part of Suicide Squad is the always online for even single player. That means it has a ticking time bomb. It will die at some point when they turn off the servers. It happened to Crossfire X and it will happen to Suicide Squad. Same shit like GT7 and Redfall.
My problem with PSVR2 is you can’t buy a set of sense controllers separately. I wouldn’t need a another set of controllers if you could charge and play at the same time.
17:37 Free dental appointments for all!
I would imagine that Colin (and others) big problem with PSVR2's blurriness is that they're not quite setting it up properly. It might be harder to set up than people expect, but I can assure you that it's not supposed to just be "blurry."
Yeah just got mine and figured it would be a challenge to have it be clear. Luckily it was super easy, barely an inconvenience.
Everyone's thoughts on Suicide Squad was surprisingly tame
F*** all that, a cashew is a damn nut
Chris talking about destiny 2's expansion. That room with the moving laser wall. My friend she had been trying for hours todo it and I came along and did it 2nd try.
I fully agree tha the veil wasn't explained- I found myself wondering if they actually know what it is themselves at this point 🤣😂. Also you want frustrating the final boss in legendary.... man... that was a bitch. Did it in solo, my friend I tried to help with it... we ended up trying like 200+ times and couldn't do it....
40:59 "I agree with you there" But was not smart enough or was so soaked in fanboy juice that I couldn't make that logical leap in the last podcast.
Show starts at 40:24
I just wanted to use dope ass boomerangs
when a game sells 20 million copies, I can understand them - its not just about money but its giving the fans back "more of it".
You talking about the DLC for Elden Ring? If so, they're not "giving" anything, they're selling it. I share Colin's view of DLC, the only DLC I bought is a map pack for the OG COD: Modern Warfare, after that nothing ever again. I just don't understand it, once I've beat the game I feel like I've conquered the world and anything added after that just diminishes the world for me.
Presumably they're going to create many more bosses that are probably more difficult than the final bosses of the main game. How does that make sense? They've created a world where there's a story and bosses and hierarchy of difficulty, now they're going to introduce more to this world that are harder than that of the base game? It just diminishes the main game imo. Like Colin said, just put that time and energy in a new game.
Chris will always say 'im sure the game is going to be good. There's no way it's not going to be good' and then those games end up being not good. He's done it with Callisto Protocol and Atomic Heart already lmao don't be so sure yet.
Atomic Heart is actually good. He only complained about the dialogue
Colin finishes the most games my ass.
@@JoltinJoe Compared to Dustin and Chris? Sure. But he definitely does NOT have a track record of completing games. I have more completed games than him while he’s played 487 more games than me.
@@JoltinJoe That is just an assumption. He started Sacred Symbols 4 years ago. You and I don’t know exactly how many games he’s played and ‘beaten’, but him having a completetion rate of 40% is quite bad.
@@JoltinJoe However PSN profiles determines what ‘completed’ means. His % is 40ish.. That’s probably better than most people but still bad if he’s stroking his ego on his podcast about how many games he finishes.
I mean, I don't like sports but that doesn't mean I hate it. I'm just completely indifferent. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I dislike it.
I feel like the news about Yuji Naka is just an excuse for the puns and I kinda don't mind
Thank you Dustin for your take on Suicide Squad. The game looks fun and a game I'll pick up on a sale. The game looks kinda Outriders to me but the setting is more appealing to me than Outriders. Looks like a fun almost borderlands experience to play with a friend. I'll wait to see reviews.
Well next-gen consoles are on par with mid range 2016 PC gaming so its no surprise.
Enjoyed the episode, but I was disappointed with Colin repeating the misinformation about Zelensky's NATO comments from a misleadingly-edited video. He didn't say that NATO would have to send American troops to fight for Ukraine, but rather that NATO would have to get involved if Russia continues its war and invades other NATO countries.
“Misinformation” Enjoy your draft bro
Great podcast
When you talked about the game being released on a PlayStation with Xbox button props, I don’t think that speaks to a special pipeline I think that speaks to a lack of testing on behalf of Sony. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a game released on a PlayStation platform that was broken I’m Sony let it be released someone at Stoneys and was supposed to test that game to make sure it at least function and they didn’t. Do you remember cyberpunk 2077 who tested that game at Sony. We know the game shouldn’t have been released because they literally took it off their own store but I asked the question how did it get there in the first place. Again these two games are not the only times this is happened we don’t have it happen often, but it does happen so you have to ask yourself the Sony honestly test games before they go on the store?
Could be a gold podcast coming if it turns out Naughty Dog are making a games as a service Anthem/Avengers game out of factions
Dead on arrival
Suicide Squad looks like straight dogshit. It's a shame it's going to be more live service action multiplayer trash. It looks like our best option still on PS5 is Arkham Knight, and Arkham City unpatched to play at 60fps.
“Dueling should be legal”
State of Washington still agrees.

Wouldn’t a JSRPG be Japanese Strategy Role Playing Game?
I was getting worried that Colin was stroking out before he addressed the hideous pronunciations he was making.
JRPG was a term that was used in the 90s but most japanese devs didnt hear that term until the advent of the internet and forums which was around 2006 when more people started getting common access to the internet.
