The Spidells harmony & riffs are untouchable! I've listen to the Time, and other professionals groups nobody can hit the riffs! like the Spidells. Even the Time can't match that riff pattern; Other professional singing groups sing with a straight background line! On the other hand a riff carries the sound like a velvet wave. Listen again to the background vocals then compare the Time, Huey Newton & the news, they sing with a straight line in their background vocals!
Billy Lockridge should have been a star. Handsome, great voice, great dancer. Just goes to show there were many talents who should have made it. He still at it, performing, see him. He still got it.
According to Mr. Anthony Amp friend of Billy Lockridge frontman of the Spindells passed away! Mr. Amp said it was Billy who told him how to get the video of him so you & I and so many others could enjoy watching and hearing this beautiful song. It should also be noted they were college students at Tennessee State University. Listen to the harmony their riffs sounds better than the Tymes who coined so much in love. All for one sung it in the 90s it put them on the map! 25 years later still touring all over the world. The baritone kept the harmony going great job!
Wow this takes me back to the day my husband and I first met at 16, strolling along the shores of San Francisco, Beach.....and 49 years later, here we are listening to one of our old skool songs....
Emily Bolton when am exploring old music i only get the singers were black...mostly...cud it mean that in 60s 70s the industry was dominated by blacks or wat?
What a wonderful timeless classic. This my first time hearing the Spidells sing it. I've heard The Tymes, and the Jackson Five sing it. The Tymes being the original. Thanks for posting.
So Much in Love" is a song written by George Williams, Billy Jackson, and Roy Straigis (initially under the name John Joseph). It was originally performed by Williams's American soul vocal group the Tymes and was released in the summer of 1963 on Cameo Parkway Records, which produced many pre-Beatles hits of the 60s such as The Twist.🎷🥁🎸
These are Only college students! I have heard many renditions of this great tune. They are all very good. This is a very well preformed and produced recording. Thanks for uploading this!
I'm 62 and remember this song being played on my way to Viet Nam and brother this is a much better version. So much talent and i hope the group continues doing this style of music. A new fan and supporter.
Chuck, the song is great and so were the "Spidells" the original group that sung"So in Love."Frontman singer Mr. Billy Lockridge now passed away! Billy Lockridge and group members The "Spidells" met as college students at Tennessee State University.
The Spidells did an incredible version of the Tymes' record, the single that skyrocketed to the No. 1 position on the Billboard magazine charts on August 3, 1963. There is some comment questioning whether the Spindells did the song first. That does not seem to be the case. The tune was penned by Tymes' singer George Williams, along with co-writer Bill Jackson, an A&R director at Cameo-Parkway Records in Philadelphia . When the multi-tasking Bill Jackson heard "As We Stroll Along", a work-in-progress song by George Williams, he improved on the original idea with the help of his fellow producer Roy Straigis and created the gorgeous ballad "So Much in Love". Vivian Williams, George's wife of more than 40 years, remembers that their romance was its inspiration: Roy Straigis arranged the song issued on Parkway Records, the Philadelphia-based record label that signed the Tymes. Williams, a member of the Tymes since 1960, was 68 when he passed away July 28, 2004, in Maple Shade, New Jersey.
Kevin you're wrong! you have it backwards! The" Spidells"are the original group who sung "So in Love" frontman lead singer Mr. Billy Lockridge and his group met as college students while matriculating to Tennessee State University. In the early 1950s created the "Spidells" and the song "So in Love." Mr. Lockridge has passed away. Later the Tymes coined/copied the song in the early 1960s then in the 90s the group All 4 One did a remake of "So in Love" and were very successful with it.
@@NorEasterK I melt when I see and hear Billy it's so sad this had its day never to come back no way could I forget the guys in the background snapping their fingers only adding to the beauty of this immortal masterpiece hoping I never get alishimer disease love them
@@NorEasterK The Spidells were formed in 1962, by four students from Tennessee State University. This R&B vocal harmony group was comprised of Billy Lockridge (lead and second tenor), James Earl Smith (senior student, second lead and first tenor), Nathaniel Shelton (tenor), Lee Roy Cunningham (baritone / tenor) and Michael Young (bass / baritone). Sam Jones, of The Astors from Memphis, remembers being introduced to them by Larry Lee at the Club Del Morocco as early as 1962. Lee was associated with the group at that time, perhaps as part of the supporting band but also as songwriter.
Never heard this version before. That vocal performance is one of the best I've EVER heard.

This young man cold really sing ,but you see the arrangement has lot to with a song's success. Somehow he looks so much like Christ Brown .
Thank you for the story, what an interesting novel could've been out of this one.
